Gearbest currently has this phone for US$179.99 with this deal.

    Can you beat that price?

    • Pls make a notice, they write pre-sale,if you can wait,we can beat this price for you,but also have no any other gifts,.even we want to add gifts, but this price only can ship from other warehouse,so there is no way to add gifts, hope you can understand.

  • Does this work with Optus 4g? I'm currently with Vaya in Melbourne. Cheers

    • +2

Has 1800mhz but not the newer and better for indoor 700mhz.

      Check http://oztowers.com/Home/Bands

      • Thanks for your reply.

    • I am with Amaysim, which is also Optus 4G in Melbourne and yes, I mostly get a 4G signal. I don't leave Melbourne city itself much, so can't speak to 3G. Have never had a phone with 700mhz to compare indoor. Maybe my next device will be 700mhz but I am happy at the moment with my Redmi Note 2.

geekbuying actually started to sent out my xiaomi redmi note 2 32GB. they sent out mine waiting to get it now with TNT Express and thats free postage 3-5 working days.

Vickmall`s prices aren't necessarily the lowest, but they have a good reputation in Whirlpool Forums (esp. K3 Note thread) for quick shipping times - next day despatch & average delivery @12 days (free shipping). My personal preference is to pay less and wait. However, if you want reliable prompt delivery, Vickmall is a good choice.

    • Pos for such a neutral comment. These sorts of comments seem to be getting rarer.. it's usually more like "wtf who would pay for extra shipping? this is ozbargain just save money and wait.."

      • By that logic you should be getting your new Nokia 3210 soon… Having saved money and waited.

        • I was talking about the comparison of delivery options. Not waiting for a future phone to come out because it'll be cheaper and better.

        • @illumination:

At the speed Gearbest deliver new phones may well have come out by then…

However it's a personal choice, I would take speedy delivery in a case like this over a small saving and waiting possibly 1-2 months.

Shame it doesn't support the 700Mhz band.

  • The Android Authority review on YouTube looks a tad concerning if you're expecting good battery life like the K3 note. Majority of the drain is with screen idle pointing to an issue. The camera is meh too. I'm torn - to update or not to update from my K3 note.

    • Hi,

Are you referring to the earlier version of XiaoMi RedMi Note 2 review by Android Authority? I don't think Android Authority has done review from the Prime version.
Could you share the link for the review?

      Thanks

      • I don't think there's a difference with the prime, except the storage and ram?

        • Same RAM, 16GB vs 32GB. Also Prime is over clocked by 0.2MHz which is negligible.

        • +1

@spy: you're right, totally not worth the premium

        • +1

          @elcheapoinoz:

Interesting how some people feel 16GB is not worth the extra ~$50 for this (not to mention the processor upgrade) yet people (not saying you) are willing to pay premiums on Galaxy S6 or iPhone storage upgrades.

        • +1

@elcheapoinoz: Yes, I have the 16GB 2gz version and with a 32GB mSD card it is plenty space and still very, very fast. I got 47199 in Antutu.

        • @illumination: totally agree. Oh and the difference is in fact $58 so….

        • +1

          @illumination:
yeah, I agree there.. sucks on the phones that don't have micro SD, but this one does

    • I am tossing up my extra battery options. Seeming it has a removable battery, instead of taking a powerbank I can just slip a spare battery in my wallet.

Battery and Charger for US$14.99/AU $22 including singapore post: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/xiaomi-Redmi-Note-2-Battery-C…

Or get a charger and two batteries for US$22.62 / AU$32.28 with singapore post: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3pcs-2x-Original-High-Quality…

With 4 hours of SOT (screen on time) then one spare battery is probably enough for me.

      • But are these batteries truly original? My research suggests they ain't.

  • Hi Rep,

Why the code is now invalid? Should this deal be marked as expired?

    Please check.

    Thanks

    • hello,the code can work now.thanks.

  • I can highly recommend these guys, i used Singapore Post and received within 8 days! Great service and communicaiton.

I do recommend to upgrade the rom as soon as you receive it as i did find some malware on it, nothing major just website re-direct.

    • Thanks for your good feedback!

    • Do you mean official ROM upgrade or custom ROM/root?

    • +1

As I have had this device for two weeks, I know all about the ROMs. I am using an english ROM with no chinese, and google apps already baked in. See here for more: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/multi-l…

      • How do you find the battery life? I was watching a YouTube review by Android Authority saying that the battery life is only average.
You can only get about 4 hours of screen on time of intense usage (over <10 hour period), and about 2.5 hours screen on time if spread out through the day (on for 15 hours)

        • It has always been hard for me to measure SOT because I might go from not turning it on for hours, to using it for an hour straight, and I always have power banks or a usb port nearby. Scroll up a bit where I linked to some Aliexpress spare batteries, for $20 or $30 you won't have to worry about battery life again, just slip in a spare which is thin, it is like carry a few extra plastic cards in your wallet.

By the way, the ROM I mention above, v5.9.9 running on 16GB 2.0Ghz device (non-prime) achieve 47199 in Antutu.

          @zan5hin:

If you`re interested & have time, you could run PC Mark Work Battery Test. It attempts to simulate everyday battery usage [web browsing, text & photo editing, video viewing etc] whilst running down 80% battery capacity. The result is then interpolated to 100% battery usage. PC Mark is a playstore app - before the first test, it downloads a 400 mb file. Within the app, there are results from various devices. As yet there is score for the Redmi Note 2 - not enough entries to give an accurate average. Here is a screenshot showing the Lenovo K3 Note & Redmi Note 4G. Of course, the Note 4G has 720p resolution cf. K3 Note 1080p: http://www.mediafire.com/view/fc44967ofmy9qi7/PC%20Mark%20Wo…

        • @kusala: This has a similar battery test: http://en.miui.com/thread-158925-1-1.html

        • @zan5hin:

Thank you for the link. I still would like to a PC Mark result. The Note 2 will probably appear in their rankings in a couple of weeks. Over time you should have improved battery life with the new rom.

        • +1

          @kusala:

The Redmi Note 2 now has a Work Battery Life result recorded in PC Mark - 6 hours 4 mins http://i57.tinypic.com/25q6jy0.jpg This is not impressive cf. with the Lenovo K3 Note's 7 hours 2 mins http://i59.tinypic.com/2wpque9.jpg However, the test result should improve with later more optimized roms.

        • @kusala: k3 has a killer battery.

  • Anyone can enlighten me on the camera quality? I use my mobile phone camera very frequently.

    Thanks

    • Android authority review says average.

    • Compare with Lenovo k3 note,I feel Lenovo k3 note camera is better than xiaomi redmi note 2

      • I am typing from the k3 now, and its an average camera especially with the slightest of motions, which is why I was looking at this Xiaomi in the first place.

    • Colonel Zap has a good opinion of the camera in his video review: https://youtu.be/QEZ0TJEqMXg

Sample photos on this page: http://colonelzap.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/xiaomi-redmi-note-…

    • Thanks guys.
Can you suggest any mobile with the following specs
      1. 5.5"
      2. Dual SIM with at least one LTE
      3. Under US$200
      4. Decent camera for photo taking and video

      Thank you.

      • Hello, sorry just reply to you now.
for 5.5inch phone,i advice you buy lenovo k3 note or xiaomi redmi note 2
about camera, they are nice, but not great, you can not compare them with iphone such phones.
        Thanks.

  • Battery life has been good, i get an average of 4 hours screen on time which is double what i got on my S3. So i can only compare it to that.
Camera is good but not great, it is fine in outdoor daylight but in low light it is not great, a lot of noise. If it really is a samsung 13MP camera then it might be improved with new rom/firware update.

  • I have dealt with Vickmall and their customer service is good a bit of personalized service which a lot of end users would look for. Pricewise if they are similar or slight higher, I would go for that as a lot of bad reputation comes from the customer service when delivery is delayed or issues with warranty. between 2-5 bucks varies I would rather go with Vickmall as to me that counts personally. And Vickmall often bundle freebies which works out the cheapest deal after all.

  • decided to give this phone a try
