    Samsung?

I just returned my 3.5 yo Samsung washing machine and got a full refund, due to the recall. Disregarding the fire hazard during the past 3.5 years, I have essentially used the washing machine for free.

Pesky ol' inflation has taken some of that money.

    • Didn't they want to do the fireproofing and make you keep it? Curious as I have one too.

      • A contractor did come to my home two years ago when the recall was initiated, and he did some wiring work behind the main board. However, recent news reported that the fire hazard still exist after the simple treatment and house fire was caused by "fixed" machine.

If you have the original invoice and call the retailer, they will be happy to give you a refund or replace it with any other model you like. I contacted appliancesonline and no question asked, next day collection and delivery of the new washing machine.

        • Wow, that is good. I purchased from Good Guys and even had extended warranty and the machine had broken down. After months of trying to have it fixed they eventually offered me a refund (that is now half the price of a new machine) but refused to replace.
I ended up having Samsung repair.
Good Guys wouldn't even give me a good deal to buy a new one. Was surprised as I thought they were OK.
Will go to applianceonline in future.

@tonka: I heard people get full refund on both the machine and extend warranty from Harvey Norman. I believe Samsung will have to pay whatever this costs the retail store, and maybe even some more for compensation. Otherwise it is hard to believe the greedy stores would offer full refund to machine out of warranty.

The fix that I saw on TV was on the top loader model and involved placing a plastic bag over the control board? Very dodgy…

I also had one of the dodgy Samsung units. I had mine replaced 2 years ago, 1 month after purchase from Harvey Norman. Unit developed electrical issues and kept throwing a circuit breaker - machine was taken away for 1 week in January this year and returned as no fault found (but they did put the plastic bag over an electrical component) and now they are replacing the unit with a new comparable model for free.

Samsung have been good and have not attempted to dodge their responsibility on the recall. I could have optioned for a refund but chose replacement.

        • Did Samsung organise the replacement or Harvey Norman?

Samsung. Rang the call centre on Tuesday (off shore) had a call from a case manager yesterday and had a call from the delivery driver today.

        • @MaMan: Cheers

        • was it a top loader or a front loader ?

    • Only top loaders caught up in the recall?

  • The one review didn't look too good.

  • Interested in a washer dryer combo to save space

    • I have an LG combo, I have just ordered a new duct cover for the condenser element, it had rusted thru after 6 years, but what concerns me is that this rusted hole now exposes the element to the plastic top, which has a foam mat shielding/or not? Also the fan that drives the hot air thru the unit was clogged with fluff, the perfect kindle. The duct around the fan is aluminium and had been painted/power coated but has now corroded and pitted. I've replaced the rusted duct for $24 and pained the rest with high heat paint; seems like there is some planned obsolescence or poor design or both.
While it works well, I don't open it up like a apple product and find myself impressed with the internals.

  • i hope the washing machine with free delivery stays as the same price…

  • Might want to put in the header, deal starts on 14th. Also says cannot combine with any other offer.

    • where does it mention that it cannot be combined with any other offer ?

  • Good deal, got the older model for a few dollars less 2mths back.

  • I have a very similar looking model, but not inverter I bought about half year ago. Excellent machine in my opinion. Many different cycle to choose between. Daily wash on cold with 2 rinse cycles is about 50 mins, 3 rinse about 1hr, but the 15m quick wash is very handy sometimes. Very low power consumption per wash (on cold - even for longer 2 hour cycles)), but has highish standby consumption, so switch off when not in use. I almost wonder if Samsung intentionally has a high standby power consumption on more budget models to create a selling point for the more expensive models with better energy rating.

  • How does this compare to the 8kg Baumatic on the front of the new catalogue?
    $448 - 10% etc etc.
