    What's the chocolate like?

    • +1

better than most common supermarket brands including lindt and green+black's :)

  • I don't trust chocolates that don't specify the variety of cacao they come from as any good.

    • This chocolate is terrible.
It tastes like a cheap Easter egg.
Bought at SupaBarn Canberra Centre last Friday for the same price and was very disappointed.

      • As a reference point, have you tried the offerings from Green and Black? Thoughts?

      • :(

        which flavour did you have?

        what chocolates do you prefer?

    • how don't you trust them as being any good?

most don't, with one exception being green+black's

which cocoa beans and chocolate brands do you like?

      • I mostly go with dark chocolates (min 70%) as I find anything below much too sweet.

I like a bit of the Varlhona Guanaja 70%, which is quite readily available from David Jones. A Trinitario Criollo blend.

The other one I just notices being stocked and tried and liked I found, of all places, in Woolworths is some sort of a vegan and all organic chocolate bar where they used evaporated coconut nectar instead of sugar. Criollo variety from Venezuela it says on the box. A bit grainy though.
The bar's in some if I remember right brown cardboard box packaging going for $6 a 100g bar.

Amedei Chuao is a good one you can buy from Lario online.

Also Pralus 100% is fantastic, but that brand can only be bought at Monty's in Brisbane.

        • nice expensive taste :)

i also prefer dark for the same reason

note that whilst specifying bean variety can indicate quality, some good ones don't - and like robusta and pinot meunier, forastero isn't necessarily bad :)

what do you think of australian chocolate?

        • @tonester:

I do enjoy Haighs from time to time as a guilty pleasure fix of their Dark Chocolate Rocky Roads.

Oh the Woolworths chocolate I got is branded Loving Earth.

Haven't tried Daintree but will give that a go.

For my really sweet tooth days I like to hunt for the really thick Italian style of drinking chocolates from the chocolate cafes.

i buy spanish simon coll drinking chocolate (45% cocoa) 200g for ~$4 at leo's :)

        • @tonester:
          That. Looks. Really. Thick.

  • fyi just bought ~700g jamón serrano for ~$18/kg and Joseph First Run Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2015 750ml for $27 at leo's - always worth checking the clearance sections for bargains :)
