A good deal, that doesn't suck or blow. Thanks.

  • Thanks OP, just bought one.

  • How's this compare to a Dyson DC37C or similar?

    • Hi Lukian, replaced Dyson with Miele not long ago. Not this model but similar. Having used it a couple of times Dyson is like running a helicopter in in enclosed area compared to Miele.

      • +1

Don't get you. Do you mean Dyson is more powerful or noisier?

        • +3

I think he means noisier. Helicopters aren't known for sucking things up very well.

        • Very much so.

  • +38

    "made in Germany". Hmmmm

What are the emissions data on this Miele?

    • LOL.

    • Made in germany by…….

I really hope its not a diesel

Am i missing something?? False advertising?

Miele website advertise this as 1400W motor ( http://www.miele.com.au/domestic/vacuum-cleaners-1784.htm?ma… )

    Myer advertise this as 2000W motor ( http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/electrical/vacuum-cleane… )

    • +17

      Defeat device installed ?

something popular about being made in germany with false specs

    • -5

NEG for Myer for false advertising.

    • -1

Yep everyone else says its 1400w, thought it might be a "Similar but different" model but DJ's, HN, JB, etc. all say 1400w

    • -1

I think it's to do with recent European regulations banning vacuum cleaner with motor greater than 1600w.but they probably found a way to get away with that just like VW. Stupid regulations it seems as we Aussies always prefer stronger vacuum, we live in a dusty country.

      • Might explain why most a being made in asia now?

    • Ahh crap. Was interested in getting one until I read about this power rated at only 1400W, not 2000W :(

  • It doesn't have 2000w Motor as advertised on Myer website. I purchased when it was on special last month, but the box would say 1400w motor. Returned next day.

    • +1

That would be the "old" model. the EU banned vacs over 1600W a year ago.

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2740197/Power-surge-…

      • What is the reason for banning vacuum cleaner??

        • Environmental. Although conspiracy says Dyson had a lot to do with it as their vacs have less powerful motors.

  • no stock?

edit: bought one thanks, just need to keep trying

    • -2

MAKE SURE ITS 2000W AS ADVERTISED.

      • yep, will see, if it is not I will return it as well.

  • +10

Wait, why is everyone getting their knickers in a knot over the vacuum being 1400W instead of 2000W, like Myer advertised? It's still the same vacuum cleaner only Myer have made a mistake (accidental or intentional) in their description.

And after a quick google search, the price does seem quite good.

    • +4

Need 2000W power to twist the knickers into a knot. 1400W is not powerful enough :P

      • -1

        Power equals force times velocity

    • +1

The motor is more efficient and quiet and tested to last 20 years - power out that counts.

Cheaper to buy up on bags from overseas via eBay - otherwise can be annoying price.

  • +2

as if 1400w isnt enuf -_-

I've wanted a Miele but there are like a hundred different models and I got lost trying to figure out the differences between them and which one I should get.

I want good value. If there's an upgrade that costs a lot more, but all you get is one extra attachment or something that's not worth the upgrade, I don't want it.

Any recommendations? I want good suction, the attachments are not too important as long as it has a floor tool, crevice tool, and brush tool.

Do these suck better than dysons? I have a dyson and I have no problem with the suckage, I just hate emptying the dust bowl. It is very hard to do it without dust going everywhere, and you have to empty it long before the bowl is full because the dust won't spin if it's past the "max" level which is actually quite small. So you have to empty it frequently. I think I'll prefer bagged from now on.

    • A vacuum cleaner repairman did an 'Ask me Anything' on reddit a little while ago. He rated Miele quite highly but wasn't a huge Dyson fan. He also strongly recommended buying a bagged vacuum over bagless as they work a lot better.

On the basis of this advice I bought myself a Miele S8310 about 18 months ago. RRP is $530 but I think I paid about $400 from The Good Guys. Works really, really well - I'm very happy with my purchase.

      • They don't sell those models anymore.

They replaced the hundreds of models they had with another few hundred new models.

But they all fall under C1, C2, and C3. The prices vary from a $300+ to over $1000, and I would like to know if the price difference is just accessories and small convenience features, or if the suction is loads better between low and and high end?

  • Is it bagless?

    • no, it is not.

    • +3

As someone who got a dyson over a Miele because it was a bagless vacuum, I 100% regret it. Just trust me, bagged is worth the extra cost of consumables. Much cleaner, and you don't have to empty it as often.

One day when I was decluttering, I vacuumed a lot of stuff that required me emptying the dyson more than 10 times. A bagged vacuum would not have filled up the bag.

      • -2

So all the crap that isn't filling up the bag is still sitting on your floor?

        • +1

No you doofus. The bag is more than big enough to hold all that dust I had to empty 10 times with the dyson. Emptying the bagless is not very hygenic either.

Just imagine pouring a bag of flower into a mixing bowl. There'll be a lot of fine powder forming a cloud that rises up and gets all over your clothes. This is what happens with your dust when you empty a bagless vacuum cleaner. It will get into your clothes and into your nose and eyes.

        • @lostn:

Yeah, I only empty my V6 outdoors now. It isn't as 'clean' as they show on the ads where they simply flip open the bottom and everything falls out in a neat clump.

Half the time the dust and stuff is still stuck in the canister, so you give it a small tap on the edge of the bin to dislodge it, only to have all the dust and stuff fly up in the air.

        • @dbun1: It always sticks to the dust bowl. The only way to clean that off is with a wet cloth.. but that's going to be very dirty for you. The crap thing is that the max line is about 10% of the dust bowl. And the way the dust clumps together, it won't be like water where it fills evenly. A big clump will stop the spinning, but around the rest of the bowl will be no dust. It all clumped in one spot that exceeded the max line.

I empty it outside too, though the risk is wind blowing it everywhere.

What really sucks is the lid that opens on the bottom. Dust just falls onto that lid instead of into the bin or bag. Pretty much impossible to empty, and requires frequent cleaning.

I spent a lot on that dyson. I'm thinking of just getting this Miele, but I don't know how good it is compared to the other models. Miele has way too many models.

  • For dust bag, just found a good deal on eBay:
MIELE GENUINE GN HYCLEAN 3D EFFICIENCY VACUUM BAGS X 4 BOXES
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271234741154?_trksid=p2060353.m14…

$74 (before 15% discount) for 4 boxes (4 bags per box)

    • thanks noodle23, add 'click15' as a redemption code and that brings it to $62.90

  • -2

how can it sell out so quick? just visited the website today and it says 'There is insufficient stock available to purchase this quantity for MIELE C1 Classic Vacuum Cleaner: Lotus White." WTF?? thanks for nothing!

    • +1

Dunno. Could be because it's a clearance item and it was on front page of Ozbargain? ;)

The only opinion you need to know about vacuum cleaners, (skip past the part where US vacuum brands are discussed).

1400W with efficient design will give better suction than 2000w with poor design.

Bought one for the old lady after reading some reviews online (and the bags are quite generic, easy to get hold of for cheap, plus you can mod shopvac bags to fit also), then after a play-around with it, I bought one myself.

    Highly recommend.

Sold out there, but you can easily find them on eBay for about $170 pp.

The Miele S771 is a 2000w and usually goes on special for $199 at Godfreys. Currently its $249, so $60 more than this basic C1 model, or only $10 when on special - which is regularly.
    Old sale: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196950

I have the S771 and if you turn it up full it gets stuck to the carpet and is hard to move.. I tried Dyson and Vax, but the Miele is miles better.

    • thanks, will keep an eye out on godfreys sales

also, is it an outdated model, as its not on miele's official website

  • Ordered 10:30am yesterday, order status now showing backordered. Guess we ozbargained it!
    Bake him away, toys!

    • same here, also showing the option to cancel the order.

  • I can still see that we can buy from myer website (might be back ordered, not sure)

My only query is that is the 1400W motor good enough to clean a carpet? My carpet is not a good quality one and I do have a lot of hair fall (no pets though). I know we can return it if not satisfied, but wanted to avoid the hassle for both Myer and us.

Can someone who used this model confirm this for me?

    • +1

I received mine over the week and tried it yesterday. Must say it is really good - really great suction power and I was running at half of max. You can control the suction power by the dial on the cleaner.

I have had 1500 - 2000w before but this is super good - guess it is not just about the watt !

  • +1

Just got an email from Myer saying the order has been cancelled (out of stock)…luckily picked one up from DJ over the weekend (price match)!

    • Me too. What a bummer!

  • +1

Managed to find one by chance in Myers during the week. After a bit of persuasion, they price matched for $189 (was $279 in-store). They said Eastland have a few left in stock…
