    Who in their right mind would choose a car worth 62k over a car worth 142k!

    • +1

      Yeah I didn't get that, almost didn't bother writing the Mustang in the title. Also strange for an electricity company to advertise a V8 car as an alternate prize and show that it costs less than half the price and goes faster.

      • Does the Mustang accelerate faster, at all points on the curve? I'd be surprised if the torque of the Mustang is as constant as the instant-on of the Tesla, at all speeds. When I drove one, it didn't take anywhere near 5.8 seconds to get 0-100 either. Seemed less than 5, and I think the advertising was under 4?

        • +6

          No idea :) I just meant it was odd for an electricity company to advertise and promote a petrol guzzling car as an alternate prize.

          In any case we can all choose the Tesla. For those who want the Mustang they can sell the Tesla at a slight loss and buy 2 Mustangs with it.

        • @hamza23: Hahaha.

        • @hamza23:

          That's probably the whole point.

          They don't expect anyone to take the mustang.

          They just want to put the numbers up to get people to discuss it and they get advertising that the electric car has better performance.

          I doubt many people who don't keep up with tech or are petrol heads would know much about electric cars and assume they're slow, this gets them talking about it the same way you guys just did.

    • It would be interesting to see whether it will depreciate way quicker than the Mustang.

      In 10 years time, they're probably both worth $30k.

      • I was amazed how many Teslas I saw on carsales. I thought it was a bad omen…then I realised. They were all new. It doesn't mean they're selling a lot, but it does mean nobody was getting rid of theirs when I looked. Which is a good omen!

        • I was thinking more of battery life/maintenance costs after 10years. I'd expect the Tesla to be much more expensive, limited mechanics, etc.

        • +1

          @rompastompa: They're thinking of making used batteries power houses. Yes, really. The batteries will be an issue after warranty, potentially. But…surprisingly there is stuff-all maintenance! What I love is the ability to upgrade your car through WiFi. It's like an iPad with (very fast) wheels.

          @sellingoutsoon: Interesting times :)

          We just need lots of companies to run competitions like this (buying $140k teslas), to eventually be an affordable technology.

          I still think we should go Nuclear powered cars. :P

        • +1

          The problem with the Tesla is the usual issue - the range. It's especially bad in Australia where distances are much bigger between places than in most other countries.

        • @rompastompa:

          The Teslas have low maintenance cost - there's no combustion engine, no exhaust, none of that. Not nearly as much that needs servicing like in a normal car.

          The battery life is the only real worry, but it's already a worry when brand new. You just have to think about how and where to drive it.

    • I can understand why non-petrolheads would probably prefer the more expensive Tesla which has more refinement, a nicer interior, and instant torque, but I really wouldn't take the Model S if you paid me. ~6 seconds to 100 really feels like a decade, even with the quick launch. Sure the P85 Model S can keep up with 458s and GTRs at the beginning of the sprint (not so much above 100 clicks), but the lack of an engine note really takes away from the whole experience. I respect the tech, but I'd definitely take the Mustang (with its heart-pumping throaty V8).

      Thanks for including the Mustang in the title, I wouldn't have clicked and entered otherwise.

      • +1

        Agree about all that V8 goodness. But (at present time) this is just new. In years to come, the instant-torque will be a thing of its own, and kids that didn't grow up marvelling at cubic inches (and that sound!) will marvel at something else entirely. And we'll just be old people saying things about them that old people say now about us :)

        Or, you could do the ozbargain thing if you won and opt for the Tesla, sell it, and use the proceeds to buy the Mustang.

  • Enter as many ways as possible before 31/05/16 to maximise your chances to win.

    I'll definitely have forgotten about this by next year!

    • A long way to go!

  • Has anyone who has done this started getting marketing? Looks like they can do whatever they want with your details as a condition of entry.

    • +4

      That's pretty common.

  • +1

    Not entering this, Dodo will spam the living hell out of you once they have your details. They're scum in that regard.

    • +1

      I did a dodo insurance quote, they called me 5 times a day ever since. . then i blocked their number

  • I asked Dodo to stop phoning months ago - and they did.

    Does anyone know how to enter via the other methods? It says to sign up to their facebook & twitter weekly newsletters… But I can't see anyway to do that on facebook - and entering #dodocarfrenzy or just dodocarfrenzy in the twitter search box - gives zero results!?

  • It says enter as many ways as possible, what are the other ways?

    • It's not that clear but here are the different ways listed in the t&c's:

      Eligible Entrants will receive one (1) entry into the draw for each of the following activities:

      a) at any time during the Promotion Period, the Eligible Entrants submits their details through one of the Entry Pages;

      e) the Eligible Entrant participates in one of the Promoter's social media challenges, and is selected by the Promoter to receive an additional entry into the draw;
      f) the Eligible Entrant successfully refers a friend to the promotion during the Promotion Period by using the "Refer-a-Friend" facility available on the Entry Pages;
      g) for each post-paid service (broadband, home phone, mobile, mobile wireless broadband, Dodo TV with Fetch, electricity, gas, home insurance, content insurance, car insurance) that the Eligible Entrant holds with the Promoter or Affiliate Sponsors at any stage during the Promotion Period;
