Yeah I stated in title and linked it already xD

  • If only we could use the $50 voucher with these dicky deals too :(

    • Because only one code can be used at a time?

    • I bought a $100 item during the last few hours of the $50 voucher deal. I got the item but i did not get the voucher. Did you?

      • Yeah I have the voucher. I didn't get an e-mail about it, but in the 'My Ebay' section, right at the bottom of the page, there is a vouchers section (i had to scroll past my million watched items).

        • Same, accidentally found the voucher when checking out through PayPal. Although shouldn't the vouchers have expired by now?

        • @MrDixit:

Oh, this is from the new round of vouchers which were supposed to be released 1st October.

      • Ah I see it now ;) at bottom of my ebay page. Expires 31 oct.

Nice. Think I got mine last year for 89. Invaluable piece of tech.

  • Damn! I bought the Cyclo 500 for $139 a couple of weeks ago! Bugger. It comes with a heart rate monitor via redemption worth $80 so makes this a cracking deal.

    • Seems the only difference between the 505 and the 500 is ant+; so to me this is the best price so far. Not sure the HRM is worth $80, but still best bang for buck ever on a cycle comp!

I'm pondering the pebble. Trying to establish if the extra $80 for the steel is money well spent. Anyone care to comment? How plasticky is the cheaper variant? It looks kinda dinky in the photos with the shiny plastic. I'm also weighing up how disposable it is in the sense that I wonder if I'll want to upgrade it in 12 months time. In which case, the cheaper option might make sense. I've resisted getting a smartwatch given how active the market is right now and the pace of evolution. It feels like i ought to be expecting to get only 12-18 months out of a smartwatch before the thing is thoroughly outdated.

    • Pebble watch and pebble steel are water-proof, but sorry the leather band of Steel is not..

    • +1

$83 is worth it for you to understand the usefulness of a smartwatch to you, and what characteristics matter. It's plastic sure, but it's black. Personally I'd go for the cheap one and you'll likely look towards the Pebble Time Steel after a while.

    • Totally depends on how you use it.
I haven't worn a watch since I got my first mobile phone a decade or so ago, but bought the kickstarter pebble.
It's useful to me, but I really only wear it once or twice a month, when I might be a loud place and not hear/feel my phone vibrate, or when I need the actual convenience of a watch.
If you're going to wear yours every day, and use it every hour, then perhaps get the Steel.

If you want something now, then just go with the base plastic model to try it out and see if it is good for you. Bearing in mind that these are already superseded with the Colour E-Ink versions of the Pebble Time, Pebble Time Steel and the recent Round face Pebble Time Round which are all much cooler in design than the stock Pebble steel sold here.

      • Yep, I think you're right. I've done just that. As you say, it'll give me something to play with and assess if the smartwatch as a concept is going to work for me. Only risk now is that DSE shafts me like they did the other day with a phone call telling me that it's actually not in stock and that I'll be getting a refund.

Finally finished finding and compiling this stupid list. hope this helps someone.
Also thanks to hamza for all his edits

  • Navy vivofit2 is sold out. Can't pick up pink in Brisbane.

Vivofit 2 IMO is one of the better/more accurate activity monitors during exercises when linked to a chest monitor.
Otherwise fitbit with led sensors are better daily routine monitors of your basal metabolic rate but not so accurate during active exercise

    • I bought the Fitbit Charge HR yesterday and am just back from a run, I wore my old Garmin HRM with chest strap and the Charge gave a reading within 2 BPM of the chest strap reading for the duration of the 40 min session. Pretty damn good.

Yeh on smaller wrists like mine the led not so accurate as light passes under the watch as I move my wrist. Fit bit charge is good for bigger wrists, endurance running or cycling - not so great for interval training or people with skinny wrists.

Also your peripheral heart rate doesnt change as quickly (peaks/falls) due to blood vessels have some extensibility which affects readings during interval training. If you compare a led wrist sensor heart rate graph to a chest strap graph, the led will show a smoother transition during interval training. Whereas chest straps will show how quickly your heart rate rises and falls- this important when you want accurate fitness measurement.

In the end Led is good for measuring constant heart rate and chest is better for changes in heart rate.

        • Interesting. A reasonable amount of my running is plodding along at a steady pace with some mild intervals so I guess the Charge is adequate.

  • Was contemplating the Time Steel which is currently ~$350 at the current exchange, but the standard Time at $169 delivered is a no brainer for me. Thanks

    • I hope you meant 'standard Steel' lol

    • $169- Where? ???

      • he meant standard steel - not time

  • Cheers OP. Finally bit the bullet on a Pebble, happy to pick up the cheapy for now and grab a Time Steel later on down the track.

I've loved my steel for ages now, but for those prices I'd probably recommend the original, and then the Time down the track.

    • +2

There's also the Time Round being released next month.

  • Will DSE stock Pebble Time Steel in the near future?

  • Hmmm. Pebble or $83 worth of half priced tim tams

  • Any reviews on this one - TomTom Via 280 In Car GPS $111.3 ?

  • Is there a reason why JB Hi-Fi's Garmin Vivosmart is, by default, cheaper than DSE's?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/ipods-docks-fitness/garmin/garmin-…

    • Dick Smith always seem to have its prices jacked up for 'sales,' while JB usually keeps a reasonable price.

  • Bought a Gear Fit at OW - price match 89.2 . Thanks ! ( RRP $143 at OW )

  • lowatmikka- Pebble Time $169- delivered????? Where?

  • Pebbles seem to be back to normal price now, and the coupon no longer works on site?

    • Still showing as $119.20 for me? You're checking the Ebay site right?

      • It's supposed to be $83?

        • +1

It is…once you add the code "CDICKSMITH30".

        • @Jonesy77: I did that on the DS website, didn't work :S
Do you do it on the ebay also? I was worried I would do 'Buy It Now' and be forced to pay that price with no place to enter a coupon after the fact…

        • @dunker56:
Yeah you are supposed to do it on ebay, the code works until Tuesday.

If you are really worried, you can first add the item to your cart, and then enter the code in to make sure it works before you checkout.

  • Are the Yurbuds Bt or SportzBeatz Motion earphones any good?, opinions/comments.
The Sony one's are not listed.
