  • Are there any Telecaster deals?

  • Musically inclined, how does it compare with this? I can see the amp is 15w compared to 10w, but beyond that?

I actually checked this out in the store. You can't compare the Yamaha at any level to a no name guitar. The quality control simply isn't there.

Sorry, are you saying that the Yamaha is substantially poorer than a no name guitar? I don't know guitars at all, and appreciate your insight.

        • +2

Entry level Yamaha is substantially better than most no-name guitars.

        • +1

Yamaha definitely much better than a no name, for an extra $50 it's a no brainer :)

      • thanks

No comparison. Out of curiosity I always make a point of demoing cheap guitars as they roll in to Australia and Monterey is by far one of the worst ones I've tested. Flat notes ahoy!

Even low-end Yamaha guitars are quality. They are no Fender strat, for sure, but serve the purpose for a beginner very well indeed.

      • do you even Stairway?

  • Am I the only person that saw the title as "Yamaha Gingermaker"?

    • Probably…

      Sorry.

    • Guitars that can give souls to Gingers just by playing soul music? Sounds like a marketing opportunity.

  • I believe the guitar included is this: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-b…

Decent entry level guitar (with accessories) for a good price :)

Thats actually a Pacifica 012, it's slightly higher end than the one I posted. The one included in this deal is the EG112. Looks exactly the same, slightly less impressive pickups than the pacifica. Different body as well, I believe the pacifica is alder, this is basswood.

Yes Yamis consistently good. The Pacifica series was/is very under rated. Awesome and easy fretboard.
Lacks street cred for some reason.

  • Thank you for posting this - I bought a red one. A pretty cheap way to learn to play from the looks of it!

  • a silly question: will it be easier to learn how to play guitar with this yamaha electronic guitar or those acoustic guitar? i have one bought in aldi years ago. i just feel my fingers are too short, too thick, hands are too small…. you know what i mean. is it true that i just need to practice, practice, practice and then i will play better?

    • If you have small hands a Jap electric like this will be easier due to less neck circumferance. Learning to play comes from goals. Set your self actual achievable goals. Too easy to piss-fart around and play the same half assed crap over and over.

    • Electric guitars are generally easier to learn on, but lack the portability of an acoustic.

I'm not sure what guitar you bought from ALDI, but it's possible this Yamaha will be easier to play. Cheap guitars can tend to be very hard to play, not keep in tune, and sound bad no matter how good you are.

As for the size of your hands/fingers, that's irrelevant and no barrier to you improving as a guitarist.

If you'd like any advice feel free to hit me up - I have a fair bit of experience and gig regularly.

      • "As for the size of your hands/fingers, that's irrelevant"
        Sure about that?
Fitting your hand to the neck can make all the difference. I would suggest someone with small fingers really needs to try and find a comfortable neck. Attempting to learn on something with all the feel of a baseball bat can be disheartening for a learner.
I would suggest going with something such as these Yamis are ideal and plugging strait in. Don't get stuck into pedals or anything until you can play a bit better. They will just distract you. Actually fVck it if you want to make a racket do that too. Its supposed to be fun.

        • Yes I'm sure about that because there's amazing guitar players with different sized hands.

The neck size/width is simply personal preference. It's not like "I have medium hands, therefore I need medium neck".

        • @AlanHB:
Its about comfort, not med/med or anything, that's ridiculous. If the neck is too fat a
beginner is much more likely to be uncomfortable and likely to be put off, thats all I am saying. You want to get down to actually playing as quickly as possible bit hard if you cant reach around the baseball bat neck.
BTW cheap CNC manufacturing means there are all kinds of OK guitars for under $200. The old days of cheap = automatically shit are well gone. I have a no name Strat I bought off ebay to test pedals with and it is ridiculously good for $50 plus a 30 minute a set up and tuner upgrade.

        • @King Tightarse: Exactly right.
Some people like the "baseball bat" neck. It's personal preference.

Have you personally played an ALDI or Kmart guitar? Although there are cheap, good guitars (Yamaha being one), the store specific generic guitars tend to play like crap, and not even a pro could make them sound good.

We tend to be agreeing on most points mate so I'm not sure where this argument is going.

  • Anyone know if this is available as a left hander ?

  • Mine arrived on Friday. :) The main box was a bit torn (and DSE didn't even wrap it!), but nothing inside was damaged (Yamaha packed it really, really well). Definitely worth the money, it's a great guitar.

I like the neck size on the guitar, my hand wraps around it easy. :)

    • Glad you like it :) Checkout Yousician on the app store (you can download it for your PC as well). I've been using it to learn guitar and it really keeps you motivated and provides feedback as you learn.
