Picked up the Redmi 2 for my daughter about 6 months ago. Was about $190 delivered from DWI. Great little phone and superb value for money.

      • thanks. it is hard to find reviews online. how is the screen? and build quality?

        • Build quality seems very decent. It feels pretty solid. My daughter has only just put a case on it and there were no obvious signs of wear etc. Screen not as good as the higher end phones, which is to be expected, but perfectly adequate.

Seems to do everything pretty well from what I have seen and she hasn't complained about it despite some of her school mates having expensive iphones etc.

  • Can you get cyanogenmod on this? I don't want that miui crap

    • Seems to be unofficially supported here.

    • +3

Have you tried MIUI 7 recently? It works really good on Xiaomi phones.

  • +2

Note that in the checkout one of the shipping options is "TNT (3-5 Business Days)" for free. Well for me it was.

    • -1

Wait to receive an email saying you are outside coverage area so additional 25+ will be required to pay.

      • When did you got the email? I bought one last night with free TNT delivery, until now I haven't got email to pay extra.

        • You won't get an email. He is referring to DHL which charges extra when you're not in a covered area.

      • Only DHL has a limited coverage range in Australia. I live in a major city and can't even get DHL, but I can with TNT.

Expensive than the previous geek buying deal where price was Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime 2GB/32GB 5.5" Helio X10 Octa-Core USD$177.65 Del (~ AU $240) GeekBuying
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210518

    • It was only for <100 units at that price though.

  • +2

Good luck getting warranty service on electronic items from halfway across the world… Wouldn't it be much better to instead pay a little premium for the peace of mind of local back-to-store warranty?

    • +4

Which local store do you know of that sells Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Premium's for under $250? Dickies? Harveys? JB's?

  • +1

No 700MHz frequency for Optus 4G?

    • Asus z2, $100 cheapy telco phones are more targeted toward local market.

    • no 700mhz for optus/telstra 4g (new bands)

      no 850mhz for voda 4g

1800 is the common one, but its not as much coverage. I'd love a chinese phone for $300 but honestly, full coverage 4g is still crap and unreliable so I wouldn't want to affect that experience even more

      • Biggest problem is that Aussie telcos are using unusual bands for their 4G. This is the international version of the Xiaomi and uses the most common 4G bands around the world apparently.

    • Quadband H+ signals absolve this one of its 4G sins, for this price point. ¹unlocked, paid-off and dual-sim stock.

  • if anyone interested in 16gb version USD $139.00 http://hotmid.com/xiaomi-hongmi-redmi-note-2-octa-core-mtk-x…

    • shipping is usd 20 but..

    • They seem to be charging extra to sideload Google Play and other languages which Geekbuying does for free. Their $20 shipping is also exactly the same as Geekbuying's free shipping.

  • Can anyone explain this line at the end of the post?
"Please don't forget to check out our Quick Charge Promotion"

This promotion is for a Qualcomm certified charger. But this phone doesn't have a Snapdragon CPU, it has a MTK CPU. It doesn't support quick charge! Is it just misdirection?

    • Technically speaking, there are devices that uses fast charging technology that are compatiable with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 (i.e. Galaxy S6 and Exynos).

From what I've gathered, it does support QC 2.0, though I'd wait Clear to respond since he'd know better than I do.
      http://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-launches-redmi-note-2-w…

      • My wording was slightly bad, what I meant was, it has something that's compatiable with QC 2.0 according to the articles I've read.

    • I'm not trying to say this phone has QC2, but I can find out. Literally every deal I post I'm asked for QC2 deals, so I've put that in there to stop people asking.

      • Do you sell those chargers with the proper AU plugs (which are funny enough the same as the official plugs for China)? I cringe everytime I see a Euro / UK / US Charger. Especially the Euro Chargers that lifts it up..

        • Only the 5 port charger includes the proper AU plug. The rest have the adapters.

  • Op do you deliver oversea. Currently i am in malaysia on holidays. Cheers

    • Yes. This is shipped from China so you can send it to your home.

  • Ordered one. Let's see how this goes.

"Upgraded" from my iPhone 6 to the Prime around 6 weeks ago, took 6 days to arrive using the free TNT option as Dacs has pointed out

"Note that in the checkout one of the shipping options is "TNT (3-5 Business Days)" for free. Well for me it was." ~ Dacs

    A few things to note
    * Overheating makes my hands sweat. 8 Cores, overclocked, what do you expect?
    * Camera is poor. Really not worth taking photos unless the subject is incredibly still, otherwise a ghosting effect is really visible.
    * MiUi 7 does(did) not come preinstalled, because it's not released. There are Alphas going around but I considered it too much effort considering…
    * Buggy MiUi 6. Restarting crashes with certain games. Annoying things that can't be removed or disabled like the Chinese only app store that hijacks any browser app install links. Language can apparently be addressed with a global ROM, but meh.
    * It now has adware viruses that add links into any links in chrome, browser, firefox, opera. Avast isn't able to detect the malware. Coming from OSX, iOS, this pisses me off to no freaking end. How is this a thing, on my personal phone in the freaking future? THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
    * Music occasionally pauses randomly (app crash). Sucks when you're in the shower with a bluetooth speaker.
    * Music control widget doesn't play music (after app crash). Has to be opened, played and then the widget will work until next time it crashes.
    * Basically MiUi is an iOS rip off. Which is fine, it tries to simplify things and I like that. But even the 'previous' version of the OS sucks. I wouldn't count on MiUi 7 being more stable when it is released (possible next year). I'll try installing vanilla android for the best experience soon.
    * Terrible speaker on the back of the phone which is muffled/muted/sealed when lying on a flat surface. I have slept in thanks to the quietness when using the alarm.

    APART FROM ALL THAT
    * Ridiculously great phone
    * Super cheap phone
    * Super fast phone
    * Fantastic screen
    * Very decent battery life after the honeymoon phase
    * Makes Samsung users look like pretentious Apple users spending ridiculous amounts on phones.

Just to supplement this information from someone using the international miui7 dev ROM, all* those aforementioned "things to note" are fixed and its generally agreed to have 30% more battery as well. Considering its already rooted and very simple to upgrade, I recommend it.

*can't comment any improvements to camera as I didn't use it enough before upgrading to notice. Seems good in Miui7.

      Great replacement my previous G2.

      • Looking forward to upgrading when a stable version is released. The battery boost will be greatly welcomed too.

      • Can you share the link to miui7 for note 2 prime? I am replacing g2 with this phn too.

    • +3

I ordered my XRN2 on launch day and have been loving it since it arrived. Blows my LG G2 out of the water and I get 47k Antutu but it never overheats. I use my iPad for games so maybe that is the issue for you?

Camera is average/adequate, not poor. Better than my LG G2.

If you are buying a Chinese phone then you should expect the effort. If you have an android phone and half a brain it is easy to learn about TWRP, SuperSU, flashing etc the same way you should know how to change a tyre if you drive a car. Xiaomi.Eu forum released great MIUI 7 ROMs with no Chinese bloatware already for a whole month now.

MIUI 6? See above, no reason to run MIUI 6 at all, just flash it straight away to Xiaomi.Eu 5.9.24

Try a different music app. Check out Shuttle+, works for me.

I agree with the rest. It's a killer phone that does everything I want except double tap to wake.

      • +1

Could you tell me the link where & how to flash the phone with Xiaomi.Eu 5.9.24?

MIUI 7 dev rom is as easy as downloading a file from the Mi Forums and opening it with the system update app. You will then continue to receive OTA updates every Saturday around midday and there is no bloatware. You will need to use the Google Installer from the MiStore to install google services.

      • Where can I find the system update app? Can't seem to find it anywhere on my Redmi Note 2.

        • +1

It's just called "updater" and it's a white upward pointing arrow on a blue background.
Its an actual app and not a option in your menu

    • Thanks for these! I will keep my 6S Plus then, thought of going for something cheaper without any issues, but seems this phone has too much issues…worst thing is that they do not have any warranty or service in Australia! If any issue, have to send it back to China and that takes weeks!

      • +2

Majority of those issues are in MIUI 6 and fixed in MIUI 7. Every phone has their fair share of flaws.

  • 10 days del to regional Vic VICKMALL using Singpost

  • This is a good time to pickup a phone from a reputable brand with excellent specs and price before our dollar drops even further.

Our dollar is going up now.

    • It's improved today. This phone is more ~$245 now.

  • Why am I getting $262 AUD at checkout with the coupon?!

    • Paypal has fees with their currency conversion and you pay extra. Paying with a credit card through Paypal usually has a better rate.

  • Paid using Bankwest MasterCard - was charged $253.29.

    • Was that paying USD on the website or had to converted it to AUD prior to checkout?

      • Paid USD on website

  • Does this phone come pre-installed with the Google Play store and services, I have read a few review which say that you have to sideload the play store?

    • According to Geekbuying it does. Sideloading is incredibly easy as there is a Google Installer with GApps in the MIUI App Market.

  • Damn, Everbuying is selling this model at cheaper price for US$ 171.99 (AU$243.48).

Does Geekbuying do price guarantee and refund the difference?

    Order shipped from Malaysia.

  • Got my DHL tracking number today. Shipping for Hong Kong.

  • It seem the Quickcharge promotion is finished??

    • Yeah it finished late last week.

      • Missed out on the black set of cable once again. Thanks for the reply.

        • +1

They're pretty popular so I'm sure they'll bring it back soon.

        • You're in luck. Geekbuying are going to give me a coupon to share on the cable pack tonight. I'll post a deal a long with the 5 port QC charger as soon as I get it.

        • @Clear: Thanks for the notification.

        • @RichardL: It'll only be a 3 pack however, but 4.59 US.

        • @Clear: Oh okay, I'm after the various length..so I guess I'll have to wait until the 6 pack are on special.

  • The code isn't working anymore.

    • Would make sense as the coupon page just got updated.

      • Too bad, might just go with overbuying then as that finishes tonight.

        • You've probably already gone for everbuying, but if you haven't and still want one, the white is on sale.

        • @Clear:

So no chance on getting more of the black?

        • @somethingguy: Not at this stage, but they might put it on sale again soon.

  • I ordered on the 10th and the order status still shows up as Payment Confirmed
(Processing) does this mean it hasn't left the warehouse yet?

    • That's correct. In some cases it can take up to a week, but I can ask GB to follow it up.

      • ahh Ok thats fine, thanks.

  • Ordered with this deal date posted. order received 16 october. yet to open package to check it out. as deleivered to another address, but confirms have receibed parcel.

  • Great! Phone Dead on Arrival. Phone doesn't turn on. and when on charge it vibrates intermittently. Anyone else experiencing such issues? Awaiting Geekbuying to respond.

    • Did u check if you remove the plastic sticker on the battery?

      • What a dumb arse……sorry!!! all, all good turns on! phew….
