Hm, nice bargain, sad reason for a bargain.

I guess the ABC shops pretty much grew and thrived on the idea that if we liked what we saw on TV, we should buy the book and the DVD. It worked pretty well, right up until everyone realised that we never watched the DVD or read the book again, and that they cost money and take up space. I doubt Mark Scott enjoyed taking the decision to shut the shops down, but it was inevitable, and he had to do it.

    • if I miss an abc program I watch it on iview. Seems naive to try to sell DVDs of shows that have just screened on tv & were free to stream for 2 weeks after that (not to mention the inevitable reruns). What audience would be left to sell to?

my nanna. She doesn't even understand what the ninnernet is!

She calls DVD's 'Tapes' too :)

  • Always shopped for Dr Who audio CDs for when I was travelling in the car. Also piked up some good audio books. Sad the shops have gone the way of the dodo. They did not know what they did or the danger there.

Who'd of thought a govt should provide a service and try to be competitive… wait?

By your standards, buying lunch at a public school tuck shop, or coffee from a public owned venue is a bad model.

      What a stupid (profanity) post.

  • ABC is great for those gifts that you just can't find anywhere else (without trawling websites) but between prices, the online store and downloads, it was never going to stay competitive. Added to that, ABC workers have got to be the best paid and supported retail workers in the country - you only left through stupidity or death :)
