Paid AU$0.01 by selecting AUD in checkout. Thanks!

  • +2

just installed app but not sure how to get the price, showing as 1.99usd for me (in app from the deal link). Did they change it?

    • +2

      same goes for me

edit: found it! Just search Iridium fountain pen and scroll all the way to the bottom, its for preorder

        This deal is little confusing.

        • +1

Lol… OP thanked me & copied my simple comment into deal description, but someone negged my comment;-)

The strange world of the negger & why comment negs are of little value.

Thanks for another good 100 + vote deal altomic :-)

  • How much of this is for the postage 1/2 way round the world.

  • I cannot figure out how to get price cheaper than &2.77au

    • As mentioned, do a search on front page in app "Iridium fountain pen".
Then scroll down the page bottom, should show 0.01 pen.
      Unless sold out?
      '

      • Thanks all good. First time using that app and couldnt see the search symbol staring me in the face the whole time i was looking for it!

  • Thanks for the post OP.
I tried all the currencies, found NZD = $0.01 too.
So maybe 28degrees card, thru paypal will round down?
Cashrewards might round up? So might get paid for buying items found thru Ozb! <`,'>

    • I have always wondered if cash rewards can work when you have to buy from an app. Have you ever had a chance to see if it does?

      • +1

        Don't know but I guess it wouldn't.

      • Those sites link & track to merchant's site, not app.

        • So if you log in to Cashrewards, and then launch the site in a browser, then launch the site's app to purchase, it might track purchases that way.
          Worth trying.

        • @Bargitrage:
That goes against how cash rewards sites work. They are paid for directing business to a merchant's site. Without he merchant being able to track that, the merchant won't pay the cash rewards site & you won't get paid. The process is outlined on those cash rewards sites.

I don't think it works if you've used the app before in the previous deal

Second this. I get the error message "0.01 free shipping product limited one product per cellular" and my shopping cart shows up empty.

      • I got the same using an android emulator from android SDK. However, it worked with Bluestacks.

        • I tried on Bluestacks too, but now I'm getting stuck at checkout. I had to make sure I was logged out but I get the same error message when I login to my PayPal account (presumably the app recorded the PayPal account used to process my last order). How did you get it to work?

        • @divineiniquity:

Just clicked preorder, entered paypal details and it was done.
And I just received an email that it was shipped!!!

      • I'm getting this message too but I haven't ordered any yet?

What kind of pen can you buy for 2 cents?
How long is this pen expected to last….

    • +3

I think it's just to get customers to download their application and buy from them again.

Jokes on them, just delete when done

    • +2

Hero is a famous Chinese pen manufacturer - I have a number of these pens and they are excellent quality.

Fountain pens are great if you want to take the time to "learn" how to improve your handwriting.

      • How do you learn how to improve handwriting?

    • +1

      you no hero!

  • +5

Why on earth does a shopping app need so many different permissions? Seems like you have to give up an awful lot just to get a cheap fountain pen for even cheaper.

    • Check out other apps.
Why does Sygic maps need permisions to direct call (and many others) through your phone, access call logs, take videos…

In Android 4.1 you cannot possibly block google access from your private phone logs and info. I've tried at low level.

      It's a worry with Android.

    • +4

That's why you use an android emulator to order it.

      • +1

Can you recommend a good emulator please?

        • +5

          Bluestacks worked for me.

        • @porleng:
          worked here as well.

  • Did u guys order the ink too?

    • +4

$4 for the ink! What do you think ;-)

      • Link for the ink?

  • Got a nasty feeling this is going to blot all over my copy book

    • Haha… You wag.

      :-)

    • I really only want it to make notes on my manuscript, I do the bulk of it on my typewriter.

  • Well that's my first look at the app. I think they are not that smart leaving up all the old sales for all to see. There are multiple links to a big sale they had on 09/09 to 10/09. Was looking at the Blitzwolf products but when you add to the cart, the price is the current one. What a great way to discourage a sale today, make the buyer remorseful and rub it in their face that they missed the sale!

Iridium. One of the rarest & most dense materials on earths crust (source Wikipedia). Only 3 tonnes refined globally per annum!
And Banggood got their hands on some & are flogging pens with Iridium nibs for $0.01?
    Yeah, right

    • Yeah, I was wondering about that :)

    • +1

My pilot iridium nib unit alone cost me 80 dollars (dropped the original onto the floor).

But hey, even if this NIB unit was made from some cheaper metal, 0.01 AUD including postage ain't a bad deal.

      http://www.nibs.com/article5.html

TLDR: "Iridium" nibs, nowadays, simply indicate the tipping of the nib and don't necessarily indicate that the element "Iridium" is used.

Note: Sounds like Pilot still uses actual Iridium in their tipping.

      • That, or I got ripped off. Most likely the latter but I'll pretend it's the former.

  • No good for us left handers - saved from buying something else that I will never use.

    • Yeah, good point. I'm stuck with a set of expensive kitchen knives I bought last year. Impossible to use.

    • +1

I use fountain pens all the time and im left handed - never bought a 'special' left handed model to do so either (mostly go with the cheap Jinhao fountain pens on ebay).

Unless you are making a funny and it flew straight over my head :p

      • +2

I assume it's because you smudge the ink everywhere if you write with your left hand.

        • I've noticed a lot of my left-handed friends have this writing technique where, while they write, their hand and pen is positioned above their writing, I think if you use this technique it helps in terms of fountain pens.

          Edit:

          the 'overwriter' or 'hooker' apparently

          http://www.nibs.com/Left-hand%20writers.htm

        • @Dsquall: Yeah this is how I write with fountain pens.

    Sold Out only preorder available

    • Is it confirmed SOLD OUT? Is there a way to avoid the pre-order button? Is anyone still able to buy it?

    • +1

Not sold out. I think it always was a pre-order deal - see 3rd comment.

  • Any idea if this ink would be usable with the pen? http://www.banggood.com/5PCS-Black-Fountain-Pen-Ink-Cartridg…

    • +1

Just get a converter instead. Then go down to office works and buy a bottle of Parker quink and refill as needed. Don't bother mucking around with cartridges, too much damn trouble.

      • The pen comes with a converter :)

  • Is there a way to refill these pens manually? Or do you have to just purchase a new one like a normal pen?

    • +2

The pen comes with a converter, meaning if you have a bottle of ink at home, you can simply refill it. The other option is to buy cartridges.

  • +3

+1 if the pen actually arrives.

  • -2

    Pfft, papermate kilometricos still better

    • Pfft, kilometrics cost more then $0.02 pal!

  • It says one offer per cellular, so I should have used the app before in the previous deal.

    • Same

  • I'm on the apps checkout screen after typing in my delivery address.

Ive hit the paypal button image bottom screen and i get an "Account Restricted" i dont know if this is paypal or the vendor banned because i hadnt even tried logging in when i got that message??

    Cant pay otherwise?

  • Computers and the internet are making writing antiquated. I sometimes write in a journal using a fountain pen though. Fountain pens make writing feel special, the way it was back when most people were illiterate and the written word was something magical.

For writing with ink, I recommend using heavier paper (like say 90 gsm) and a fine or very fine nib. This creates less mess, especially for people used to writing with biros which require more pressure. Also, this lets you utilize both sides of a page. Japanese fountain pen nibs are available in smaller widths, whereas most Chinese brands only offer a single width. If you like fine things, get a pen with a golden nib. Ebay seems to be the best place for buying fountain pens at reasonable prices.

    • Unless you are using good quality nibs the fine and very fine nibs will tend to be scratchier. The only fine nibs i like are lamy nibs. Even then I don't like using extra fine.

    • how many fedoras do you own?

  • Just got an email that my pen has been shipped!!!

    • I got the email too on 17/10.

  • +5

Received today. Nice pen. Inked with some Waterman Serenity Blue. Piston is sliding which is quite nice.

  • Received mine today. Didn't realise it wouldn't come without any ink. Any recommendations on what sort of ink to buy (and how to use it)? :)

    • +2

The pen comes with a converter that can take bottled ink. However, bottled ink will cost at least $9 from officeworks and will probably be way too much just for starting out. So, the best idea is to get cartridges. If you are willing to wait ebay, bangood and aliexpress all have cartridges for little over a dollar or two. Here are some links for cartridges that would work. You need to look for 'international cartridges' otherwise:

      Black: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10Pcs-Fountain-Pen-Black-Disposab…

      Blue: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10x-Disposable-Blue-Fountain-Pen-…

if you are fine with 5pcs and black only then this is cheaper by a dollar: http://www.banggood.com/5PCS-Black-Fountain-Pen-Ink-Cartridg…

      • Are cartridges universal? So buying one woulf work in any fountain pen?

        • +1

Sadly not. Most branded pens have proprietary cartridge systems. Most if not all chinese pens use the universal international standard though.

Sometimes you can find generic cartridges for proprietary systems.

You can also reuse a cartridge if you have a syringe (by flushing out all the ink left with water and then refilling it from a bottle).

      • +1

Thanks a lot mate, this has been a great help.

      • +1

thanks, received mine today and disappointed that there's no ink. Have bought the BG ones you linked.

  • Mine turned up yesterday too and Iridium or not (not it seems) it's reasonably good quality and would make a great budget student pen.
Have filled up the included converter (that alone would cost a few $ on ebay) with some black ink and had a go with it.
Nib is a bit on the "Fine" side for my liking, but the inkflow and weight of the pen are pretty good considering it cost a huge 1 cent to buy.
The quality of the finish is pretty reasonable too from the way the cap fits, to the apperance of the nib and the screw thread when undoing the barrel.
I thought when I bought it that it'd go straight in the bin, but this is definitely a "keepsie"
    Good on you Banggood

  • +1

Nib is a bit scratchy but not bad for $0.01!
