      • Because in the past, its only new units around the suburb gets NBN. Existing establishments get nothing especially houses because they don't get much money from one household compare to like a whole block providing connections. Its a whole lot of bullshit and still don't trust this list

        • Are you sure you're not confusing NBN with TPG's FTTB (fibre to the building) which concentrates on apartment blocks for the reason you stated? I'm pretty sure NBN will be connected to all premises in the designated areas.

        • Yeah I checked, FTTN/FTTP/HFC. If your house has existing cables under Telstra HFC then yeah you just get HFC no changes, absolutely no difference with current cabling. I don't trust any of these NBN policies about investment on HFC, its there already they will just rebadge it.

In fact believe HFC by Telstra/Optus right now works better until NBN gets rolled out where people are forced to give up their copper for ADSL2+, you will then have heaps of subscribers on the same line, speed will decrease and you WILL NEVER get 100Mbps.

But I see only new apartments get hooked onto NBN quickly than existing buildings under FTTN or FTTP

If FTTP was to replace HFC then that's a different story.

          It's rubbish really

Aus is sht and way behind on internet. So stuff all you liberals/labour governament with all the data retention metadata and NBN policy rubbish

  • what is the h1 h2 q1-q4 refrenced to next to the year?

    h1 - 1st half of year
    h2 - 2nd half of year
q1 - first quarter year ect.
    ??????????????????????

  • Q3 2016 for FTTN for me (35-40min north of Brisbane).
Seems fair because for many years the exchange has been congested but also locked down to Telstra who only resell to other ISPs.
Basically means I've always been paying more per month and had less downloads than other exchanges with equipment belonging to other ISPs, not just Telstra.

Can't expect FTTP, that would be incredibly expensive for everyone to receive it.

HFC makese economic sense in areas that already have the cabling back from the cable TV/internet days.
I've always been without cable no matter where I've lived.

  • Doncaster VIC might as well be a small village in Nigera. SHARED cable internet is already available and "HFC in 2017" according to OPs link is what is planned. Really?! OK…so we might go from 100 to 200 ish mbps and still utilise a shitty shared line with constant variable speeds between 10mbps and up? Thank christ I am renting, I can't continue to live in an area where internet users are practically walking around with a disability, especially knowing there's going to be next to ZERO changes RE: NBN in years to come…

Australia and those in charge of information sharing and technological advancement in this country should be ashamed.

  • I am living in a rapid growth metropolitan suburb that no broadband connection. (Due to no available port). I am waiting for NBN to be rèady.

Currently building has commenced, anyone know what's the normal construction time?

    • It took 12 months for my previous house.

  • Sigh, Nothing. Meh

Does anyone have a good link to some kind of summary as to the entire nbn project. It still blows my mind the man that fkd this up royally is now the prime minister. How does that happen?

    • The world is a crazy place, and seems to be becoming increasingly insane with each year that passes. People were were sensible back in the 50s.

      • Maybe it was his plan all along. Everyone knows Rinehart and Murdoch pull the strings of the liberal puppet show. The NBN is bad for Murdoch because it will make his dinosaur Foxtel business model obsolete.

Maybe he told Turnbull " if you fk this NBN project up, I'll reward you with the top job.

        • You are a gold. I will vote you if you join election :)

Foxtel is now in a fantastic position. nbn are about to build them infrastructure to connect another 200,000 via the HFC infill. Goes to show that LNP are great value for money for Murdoch.

  • We have to wait until Q4 - 2016 and we get……..FTTN

    From: https://nbnmyths.wordpress.com/why-not-fttn/

FTTN was certainly excellent technology for 2005. But we are now in 2011. The short effective life of FTTN is becoming apparent, and countries which previously installed FTTN systems (like Germany, New Zealand and the UK) are now gradually replacing their networks with Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

    Wow

    • How is it back in 2011?

      • That's what it says

    • How is their "gradually replacing" going? That's what I want to know… is there still potential for a long term win?

      • I think the word is more "haphazard".
By the time it's installed in a lot of places, it'll be well out of date I think.

It seems that no one mentioned, but you can actually choose to get FTTP instead of FTTN/FTTB at a cost. For HFC, the option is still under development.

"Area switch" for a community, an apartment building, business park

    http://www.nbnco.com.au/connect-home-or-business/technology-…

"Individual Premises Switch" for individual house, apartment unit

    http://www.nbnco.com.au/connect-home-or-business/technology-…

It's cheaper to request before the commencement of the construction.

I know it's not free and quite expensive, but if you care so much about getting FTTP, pay for it.

The application fee is $330 for individual premises which will result in a cost estimation. A design and quote fee of $330 which will provide a formal build quote. The formal build can be quite expensive (a few thousand dollars) but you don't have to proceed if you find the price tag unacceptable. Keep in mind that having an FTTP NBN can really improve your property value. (So for investment properties, perhaps this can be tax deductible?)

  • I'm still so pissed off. My suburb (Casey) was under NBN construction during the last election (Q4 2013), then liberal won, and they stopped construction halfway through the suburb. The houses in the next street have NBN and I don't, and for the remainder of the suburb the new plan is for H2 2017… Do the math, that's 4 years of NBN that was stolen from me by the liberals and their voters.

I now hate everyone who voted liberal with a passion, and now the liberal pigs are trying to implement tax on all imports as well. I'm 23, I GUARANTEE you I will never vote liberal my ENTIRE life, that's how salty I am. If you voted liberal, please present yourself now, and I will end you :P

SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER LABOR / GREENIE STOOGE…
Must be an intelligent person too.

Thankyou for presenting yourself liberal scum. Seriously, we all knew liberal were going to half arse the NBN and you still voted for them, wtf is wrong with you? Now we are stuck with shitty copper wires for the foreseeable future. Would it have been so hard to give labour one more term in office so they could complete the NBN, then vote liberal next election ffs.

        • -1

maybe the half baked music has affected your half baked brain…
i don't support either party as both parties in the two party system are rigged
and vote the same nonsense either way.
too bad your still at the labor / liberal level of mentality..
