Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge $10/Month on $60/Month Optus Plan (2 Year Contract)

580

Found this incredible deal while shopping for a new phone. All memory sizes 32/64/128gb of Samsung Galaxy S6 AND S6 Edge are available on an Optus $60 plan for only $10 per month. To compare prices, a S6 edge 32gb was $21 on a $60 plan just yesterday.

This is definitely the cheapest price available for a 128gb GS6 Edge on a plan. Even if you can only find a 32gb model, the sales rep I spoke with advised me that these phones come with 100gb of free cloud storage.

Plan inclusion:
Unlimited mins - Standard national calls
Up to 150 mins - Standard international calls to selected countries

+

3GB data

+

Unlimited SMS/MMS - Standard national & international to selected countries

I don't see how you can get $10 per month, am I missing something?

    • +2

Click the link, select the memory size and swipe the plan to the left. $25 on $40 plan appears by default. Swiping left takes you to the $10 on $60 plan.

  • Cant you get s6 for 535 then go one a $19 plan so all up its ~1000 and your not locked in. This is only worth it if you'll use up the full quota of inclusions. 70 x 24= 1680 so almost 70% more + locked in to a contract

    • I prefer not running out of data, having credit to make calls, SMS and having an Australian warranty.. whats the point of having one of the best phones available and not being able to use it?

      • +3

I guess you do have a point this is a good deal as you can get the 128 gb version and it's and s6 edge local stock vs s6 gray stock.

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/SimBYO

$45 Sim only plan offers the same features (extra Gb of data 4 instead of 3)

    Phone is essentially $25/month

Equates to $600 which is pretty decent.

Interesting how the edge and normal s6 have their MRO's priced the same.

    • +1

I do the exact same calculation. $45 plan + phone instead of the way how optus represents it as $10

    • sorry I failed at maths lol
So what are you saying? how can we get the sim only plan for $45 and get the phone for $25?

      • Sign up for the phone $10/month on $60/month plan. It's the same dollar value just different actual value calculation. Phobo just looked for what the plan actually costs without a bundled phone.

  • I think there's a glitch because the S6 Edge 128GB is same price as 32GB!!

    • +2

I thought that too lol but the rep confirmed its an actual deal and available in store.

    • +4

I think people were under the impression that the plan actually costed $10

    • -1

I think the issue is the S6 < S5 for a lot of people.

      • +1

        I'd doubt that

        • Why?

If you read around for impressions, there are a few complaints. One in particular being that not having a microsd slot was insta-kill for a lot of people. Me included. 128gb is tolerable but not ideal. 32gb is a laugh, 64gb is a laugh and a half (two laughs if you want to be mathematically correct).

It might suit you, that doesn't mean it suits everyone.

No way would I own an s6 over an s5, not even at the same price.

        • @justtoreply:

I own an S5 and the performance is abysmal.

I know now the reason for the conveniently placed app killer/ram management buttons in the task switcher.

  • Dang, i wished i could upgrade my plan…

Wonder if we have any Optus reps here…? :p

  • If you are with TPG can you get an extra $10 off?

    • I don't think so. I asked an online rep about this and he told me that it's only applicable for their $30 and $45 plans for SIM only and the other selected mobile + sim plans on the promotion page.

apparently Samsung loses the battle ground with Apple … again, prices of S6 series sliding so much while Apple's still 'overpriced'

    • I am not complaining :-)

    • +2

I don't think it being cheaper is a bad thing.. it's just a better deal. Just because the phone is now cheaper doesn't make its hardware suddenly worse..

    • +1

I think as production progresses the unit cost decreases so they can reduce the price accordingly. In my opinion if Samsung can offer a better phone than Apple for less cost to the consumer then they are winning the battle. Unless you think paying over $1000 for a 16gb phone with an apple logo on it is "winning the battleground"

Can also add this offer to it (excuse the caps cut n paste): "BUY A NEW MOBILE OR TABLET ON AN ELIGIBLE 24-MONTH PLAN, ADD IT TO YOUR EXISTING MOBILE ACCOUNT, AND YOU'LL GET $150 CREDIT!" Can add up to 5 accounts giving $750 credit

  • -6

The title in this offer doesn't even make sense, where is the $10 plan?

    • +3

$10 handset repayments plus the $60 plan. So $70/month. If you meant where is the plan, click the link. It's the $70 one…

  • Wonder how does it compare to Virgin Mobile $40/month ($0 phone) for the S5 in terms of value for money? Total for 24 months is $960 with 1GB and unlimited calls and SMS txt.

    • +2

Depends what you need I guess. S6 is a much nicer phone than the S5 all round in my opinion. Plus Optus gives you a lot more data albeit you do pay more.

  • +6

If you order, take a screen shot of the confirmation page. The customer agreement they email you after placing an order says you agreed to $114 of fixed monthly costs ($60 plan + $54 phone) and makes no mention of the $44 monthly service discount. It even says your minimum costs are $2,736.00!

"By clicking on Place Order you are confirming that you wish to proceed with the order on the basis of the information provided
    below."

Umm, luckily I have proof that wasn't what I agreed to… Hello TOS? =)

This is not really a deal, why is this on the front page. Are we going to start advertising every phone companies drop in prices for older phones?

    • +4

A lot of ppl are looking to upgrade at this time of year.
So these posts are very useful.
      I found it useful.
Was hoping that the discount applies to Note 5.
      Thanks Op

    • Yeah, spot on. A drop in price is totally not a deal.

  • If you only need 500mb data the Optus offer for TPG customer is better.
Works out to be $55 per month ($50 in first year then $60 in second year).
Saving of $15 pm compare to this $70 deal. But you get 500mb versus 3GB and no international calls.
    Might be better for some.

  • Do not forget it you have optus home internet boradband service, there is a further 10 dollar off monthly if you are not taking this benefit on any of your other mobile phone service with optus.

That will make it become 60 dollars/month which is pretty decent.

I am currently on a 50 dollar sim only plan which has 8G data and also 300mins international calls. but before this i was on 1GB data with TPG and always OK, so 3G data from this 60 dollars plan is sufficient for me. will sign one up this weekend.

    Thanks OP

  • I have always liked the S6's but my HTC One M7 is ticking over still quite nicely and for $40 a month from virgin, Im getting 4gbs a month anyway which I dont fully use and the rollover feature means I usually have like 7-8 gigs each month to use.

Damn my new found frugality. Otherwise a great deal.

  • Maybe it's cheaper as they will start offering the s6 edge+ soon? It's a bigger phone, kinda like the iPhone plus was.

  • I was t a galaxy s6 edge + and so far the best I have found, cheapest is dodo unlimited ;gb $79 per month, using optus
Telstra best including 7gb data $105 per month, plus there at 12 month get a new phone. These days 2 years with one phone is too long

    • Note 5 is cheaper than S6 edge+ and they have very similar specs.

    • These days 2 years with one phone is too long

Man I've had a Galaxy S3 since launch and it's still going strong, no need to upgrade.

  • Just got the 128gb edge! There's also another promotion for $150 credit when you add an aditional service. So this applied when moving from my sim only plan (http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/extra-service?SID=co…)

So moved from $45 Sim only plan: So (70x24)-(45x24)-150= $450 for 128gb S6 edge. (less 1gb data). Not a bad deal!

    • From the description its for additional service, not upgrade. am i right?

  • +1

Currently with Vodafone and contract was expiring in 2 months.
Called them and got a free upgrade ( No cancellation fee) and they also matched the deal.

So $70 -$10 = $60 per month and was also given the $150 one time offer.

128GB they got only white color so went with 64GB. Its a loss but then got to keep wifey happy.

    • nice score

  • @Mayankseth;the offer is $60 plus $10 and $150 for an additional service. How did you manage to get it for $60 a month and get $150 credit as well?

    • @BinnyC: Just called the customer care and told them about the offer. Told him I got Optus landline and broadband.
He just matched the offer including $150 credit.

      • @Mayankseth: do you get any international minutes as I am on a SIM only plan and pay $35 and get 300 international minutes and wonder if i go on a phone plan these days they only have 120 minutes which is far too less.

  • I called vodafone and they matched the plan offer but not the $150 credit:(

  • +1

Virgin have the 64gb for $69/month which means you get 4gb data and rollover and if you are switching or upgrading you can get an extra 1gb.
Tossing up between the extra data with virgin vs higher memory phone with optus.

    • Virgin mobile works out better IMO because the data is rolled over. Potentially you can accumulate a lot of data!
