  Early bird catches the cheap flights. I booked in Feb for a holiday to Thailand for $187 return. Booking in advance means you can plan over a longer period. Done a few trips like this now. Everything is paid off before leaving. I go to Thailand in a month, have paid off the hotel, the driver from the airport (didn't want deal with the taxis on arrival) and a boat trip I wanted to take.
  
  Even have the spending money saved up.
  
  It means you come home and there's no credit card shock.

With AirAsia I normally buy a year in advanced and then I book in my leave a year in advanced too.
