Skylake Intel Core i5 6600k $316.68 + Shipping @ Kogan

Cheapest so far at kogan. Delivery for me was $9 so it turns out to be $325.68 for me.

Note that there will be no heatsinks included because if you are overclocking you won't be overclocking with the stock heatsinks anyways. All 6600k and 6700k do not include heatsinks.

      Non of the latest skylake 6600k or the 6700k have heatsinks which makes sense because you would only get them if you plan on overclocking. Otherwise the 6600 and the 6700 have heat sinks included.

      • Didn't release until looking it up just now how big the stock speed gap has grown between the K and non-K i7 (6700 3.4/4.0GHz, 6700K 4.0/4.2GHz).

        • Yea. You can easily overclock the 6600k a little to match the performance of the 4th gen 4790.

      • Now that I've built a system and am trouble shooting issues, would have liked one as testing memory issues is a hassle when you have tp pull off the cooler everytime you pull or add a memory stick.

        Side note, they could have atleast soldered the IHS if they were saving money on the lack of cooler on the K series..

        • Sorry I'm not really familier but what would soldering the IHS do? They probably weren't saving money they just don't want to waste money when the majority of people buying the k series chips don't use a stock cooler because they are overclocking.

          Edit: What cooler are you using? It must be huge!!

          Better thermal contact between the die and the heatspreader. People who delid their cpus to replace the thermal interface material Intel uses see up to 20° better temperatures at load.

          Intel stopped soldering the heat spreader after Sandy Bridge on their mainstream cpus, and there seems to be no reason apart from cost.

          No cooler is fine, but if their reasoning is people will overclock with aftermarket coolers, then they should have also soldered the IHS. I'm sure people would be willing to pay for it too.

          Just "low profile" so it covers the ram slots. Switched to an old Thermalright Silver Arrow twin tower after I pulled the board to troubleshoot, which was a bit easier, if awkward to access the ram
