Gotta give credit to the Tight One

  • +1

    Nice arse.

    • Buns of steel!

  • +1

I have to say my Asus laptop has a PCIe SSD and it absolutely smokes a standard 840

    • +1

In which ways? Boot up time? Starting apps? The 950 Pro M.2 SSD is like twice the price of the equivalent capacity SATA 850 EVO.

      • It is just noticeably faster at loading everything vs a traditional SSD.

A traditional SSD is fast, but this thing is just WOW

  • +4

I just received email http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/19102015/Samsung_SSD_Sale?… stating their EVO500 today and their price is 250GB $129, and 500GB $235. So ARSECREDIT removes $2, and note it also applies to the 1TB ($447 total)

  • -1

Can you please make ebay site same price so I can order from ebay? thanks

    Samsung 512GB 950 Pro M2 PCIe SSD $527 + Free $20 Store Credit(shoppingexpress.com.au)

Some deals have more than just ARSECREDIT

  • Can these be upgraded for macbook pro retina?

    • +1

AFAIK all retina model MBP's have all internals soldered to the mainboard meaning storage/memory etc cannot be upgraded.

Prices on the Samsung 850 PRO (with $2 discount) …

    128GB is $133 - http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-pro-128gb-…
    256GB is $177 - http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-pro-256gb-…
    512GB is $342 - http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-pro-512gb-…

Update: Appears that they've removed the $2 discount from the PRO hard drives :(

    • +1

Anyone have any real world experience with the Pro vs Standard EVOs? Obviously a bit dearer, but is it worth it?

      • +2

My work 500GB 840 EVO seemed to slow down considerably after using it for a little while (perhaps 6 months)
Samsung created a "Performance Restoration" application which I used, but didn't seem to make much difference.
Currently using an older 256GB Crucial M4 SSD on my home machine which uses MLC instead of TLC, and I haven't had the same issues (although it may be completely unrelated and more to do with firmware or controller), but haven't read about this issue with the PRO drives (which also uses MLC).

        • Thanks mate… much appreciated.

        • How full is your SSD? Just wondering if it's TRIM/Garbage Collection related.

        • +2

I've heard that the 840 EVO has a bug which causes slowdowns. Apparently 830 and 850 aren't affected by said bug.

        • +3

          @jkim:

          Firmware update resolves this issue.

      • +1

Go with this EVO. I have 840 PRO and 850 PRO. They are theoretically faster and are more reliable in regards to warranty but in time you'll be looking at buying 2TB+ SSD's in a few years for similar price so don't waste the extra money just for reliability. 850 EVO will be fine, just keep backups like normal.

  • Is it ssd work similar to external hard drive ? Is that a usb connector for ssd? I always one buy one but not sure how it work. Can anyone explain ? Please

    • +2

what's with the neg vote on this legit question???

AFAIK There's a connector that you can hook up into one of these ssd and you can use it as an external hard drive but the main purpose of ssd's are to replace the old school hard drives which runs on spindles.

    • +1

Good Question, these are internal drives, people wanting to upgrade computer or build their own. You can buy a 2.5" external hdd enclosure to use as a portable drive.(best get usb 3.0 ver)

      • Thank you for infor. Alway curious want one. Might buy one … Cheer

  • Good prices again TA. I would buy one if I don't already run one in my PC.

  • Thanks TA, have been waiting a while to get a 500GB SSD!

    • +5

Great deal TA!, just in time for a SSD upgrade.
now all we need is a juice promo so damn hot today, wouldnt mind a refreshing boost juice deal!
Just dont use "ARSEJUICE" as the coupon :S

  • +1

I can't wait until a sale on shovels or renting excavation equipment happens on OZB and the code can be ARSEHOLE.

    • +4

      Or face wipes :)

  • Dear TA,

You do fantastic job always. One thing that I need is Asus DSL-AC68U Wireless AC1900 Modem Router. Wondering if you can crack a deal about this. Thanks,

    • Luckily! $100 voucher from Ebay with $25 Cash back and Cash Rewards will do the trick for me…:) Thanks anyway!

  • Looks like I was charged for postage. Sadface.

Oh wait it's probably because I added an SD card. Knucklehead.

  • +2

A couple of dollars cheaper than everywhere else for the new M2 PCI-E range and free delivery, plus the $20 store credit. Deserves a thumbs up from me.

  • So tempting….but no money

  • The price tracker finds it cheaper at IJK Enfield ($520)… for the Samsung 512GB 950 Pro M2 PCIe SSD $527

    • +2

Did you add postage, and the free $20 voucher?

      • Unfortunately I doubt I'd ever use the voucher, not sure on the shipping cost couldn't imagine it being much.

Might have to wait for the price to fall

  • is there any disadvantage to boot from external SSD? (ps: I have the 27 iMac which is a b**** to swap out the original hard drive)

  • Any deals for 120gb Samsung 850 EVO TA?

  • Why does pcie cost so much more?

    • +1

a lot higher speeds compared to sata. newer tech.

  • Can this deal be available for the mSata/m.2 850s?
i.e. sell the following for $127 instead of $139?
    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-evo-250gb-…
    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/samsung-850-evo-250gb-…

  • Does anyone know if the Samsung 850 will work on a mac mini 2011. Ram city has this as the recommended drive.

    • All the standard 2.5" SATA drives should fit physically.

  • Is the PCIe 950 pro an upgrade for the sm951. been thinking about grabbing one for a while and using it for OS.
I recently purchased a 500gb evo from a previous deal and would use that one to store photos (this is a photo editing machine) that i'm working on at the time before moving them to a standard drive once finished.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    • It's supposed to be but no one knows.
There's a known heating issue for sm951 that is "supposedly" resolved in the 950 but they haven't said how it was resolved so it might just be marketing fluff and not real.

      • Thanks mate.
After some further research I don't think my MB will support it. It's an Asus p8p68 pro and it doesn't have pci3.
Have been putting off an upgrade but the itch is getting to me and might end up going for the Hatwell E 5820k.
        Thanks again

  • Hi Guys

    Great deal.

    Question…

If I buy the 256 SSD and stick it in one of those SSD USB enclousure casing thingies will it work with my Surface Pro 3?

Will it work as a external hard drive once I do the above.

    Thanks

    • Yes it will. Just make sure it is a USB 3 enclosure for maximum speed.

  • +2

Rep how about the $2 discount on the Pro drives with same coupon. Lot of us here, would prefer a pro

    Samsung 850 EVO Series M.2 250GB SSD

would prefer the small form factor of an M.2 SSD

  • Anal credit………..what to say……….wink

  • I was tempted to buy but when I looked at their review online at www.productreview.com.au, their service is terrible according to the reviews.

    Are they trustable guys?

    • I'd take most of the stuff on there with a pinch of salt, sometimes they are accurate but the number of review are generally to few to get a good feel. If you take Amazon's customers reviews the product rates very well (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-A…) and that's 5500 reviews so I think you're pretty safe.

Samsung's SSDs are a solid brand and have been fairly highly rated for the past few years so if you want one I'd say go for it.

  • Damn! I just bought it recently for $165!! though used my Ebay voucher from last purchase yet… Any chance of claiming difference back from the vendor? It was Futu_Online… Even they have reduced their price since then…:(

  • does arsecredit still work? im in wa and can't use the woolies/big w voucher.. =(

    • Yes, expires midnight tonight AEDT.

      • went to order, ARSECREDIT doesnt work by itself on the 256 m.2 drive :(
