Citibank PLUS account and Platinum Zero Fee for life VISA - tips and tricks?

After my last couple of OS trips included moments of frustration at the ATM fees, since 28 Degrees changed their policy, I bit the bullet and applied for a Citibank account.
The rep was keen to give me a VISA credit card along with the account - no big deal, I have good credit and pay my existing balance in full each month. Presumably he gets paid for signing up cards. Is there anything to be cautious of? He mentioned a 3.5% foreign exchange fee for overseas purchases (but 3 points, as if that matters!) so I probably won't be using it abroad.
Anyway, are there any tips or tricks I should be aware of? Is the account best used as an ATM account, just transferring money in via internet banking then withdrawing via an ATM, or is there a better way?
Is the insurance or payment protection or other features better than with other cards? (I have Westpac Altitude Black Amex/MC that I usually use for the travel insurance, concierge etc.)

Keen to hear opinions.

Since the credit card is fee-free, there is no harm in keeping it. (I did not notice the title saying fee-free at first!) It also offers free travel insurance, and points. But it may not compare as favourably to your other cards.

It is the citibank debit card that comes with the citiplus account, which is useful for withdrawing cash overseas, since it does not incur the foreign exchange and transaction fees.

ATM owner fees is a different thing, as the ozbargain community kindly educated me, in this thread:

    Hope this helps.
