Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 16GB 4G FDD LTE Mobile Phone USD $137 (~AU $190) @ JD

191
JD999

Update : Some concerns over the phone being a TDE version and not an FDD which means the 4G wouldn't work in Australia for most carriers, it might work if you are with Optus.

A great spec'd phone and Ozbargainers' favourite.
Lowest price so far @ US136.99.
Title says it's a FDD-LTE model which is suitable for 4G in Australia. However description says the price is for TD model so keep in mind the 4G might or might not work.

Specs:
Original XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 2 4G FDD LTE Mobile phone MTK X10 2.0Ghz
Octa Core 64bit 5.5'' 2GB 16GB 3060mAh 13.0MP MIUI V6

  • The deal site offers 3 models, with price for TD model and screenshot of all specs. When tired a little more clarity would help. Thanks.

  • Will it work with Telstra or Telstra retailer like Aldi sim?

  • Description says this price is for TD version.

I bought one through JD last month. Not very happy with them. They have flashed a custom rom which has the google play store which is nice so you can install apps normally. However adverts would randomly popup at the bottom of the screen, even without installing any other apps!! There are many other suspect apps installed.

To get around it you need to flash the official Xiaomi ROM for the phone (which you can only download through a mirror). This won't have google play store, so then flash a custom bootloader (ie TWRP), then flash the GAPPS package then finally it is ready to use!!!
Not recommended unless you know what you are doing!

JD is like Aliexpress with individual sellers. Looks like that the supplier loaded malware onto it, just like Kogan's supplier of the One Plus Two.

      • Ah ok good to know, I assumed they were the seller.

        • Better to stick with qd_au ebay I think. Those guys dont flash any malware on their Xiaomi phones!

  • Stay away from JD, they promised to send the advertised phone and their supplier reneged on the deal and tried to send a cheaper version.

Frankly i have lost all faith on them.

    See below for the deal.

Isn't JD full of individual sellers much like Amazon is?

      • But JD is more like Amazon prime sellers and use centralized warehousing/distribution solution which is controlled by JD not the sellers.

    • Lodge a complaint to JD. They normally are pretty good to help you.

      • I did lodge a complain, JD assured i will receive the item, then they passed it on to their main supplier which try to renege not once but twice. JD said they cannot do anything about it since it is the merchant that refuse to send the phone.

        • By renew do u mean that wanted to refund you and cancel the sale, or that they were trying not to refund you and send you a different/cheaper phone?

Same got sent the cheaper td model instead of the fdd I paid for.

      • Raise a PayPal case. The seller is a scumbag. Won't respond either. PayPal is now assessing.

        • True , really bad support and long replies.

    • What? JD is the best online site in China, well known of selling real/returned/refurbished products but not fake knockoffs. Their credibility is higher than the Alibaba group (Aliexpress/Taobao etc).

If I have to buy from China, JD is the No 1 site I would trust.

I have one of these. Purchased from JD for USD $135. Delivery took 2 weeks. I have this for a week now. The phone came with a LOT of bloatware, almost unusable. It was running MIUI 6 and Antutu score was ~ 34K. I then re-flashed it with MIUI 7 and the phone changed into a beast. There is zero bloatware, runs like a charm, battery life is very good. Everything works fine. The Antutu score is now ~ 49K. If you are willing to re-flash MIUI7 then this phone is one of the best deals around.

    • Good to see I wasn't the only one!

    • Wow sounds like a lot of hassle to go thru for a phone.

It took about 30 mins to re-flash the ROM. But it was worth spending that 30 mins. The phone is excellent.

  • Says 4G which bands i pressume no 700mhz

I have this phone too, great phone. Works on Vodafone 4G and my Telechoice 3G fine.

I agree, phone was so so buggy when it arrived almost unusable. Once I flashed the latest MIUI 7 onto it it has ran excellent since, They release a new updated rom every single week.
If you are interested PM me and I can tell you how to update it

  • looking to buy one of these phones, but at "15 Customer Feedback" I think i'll give it a miss. let me know how you go to anyone who gets this.

  • Is that Dual SIM?

    • +1

Also bought from JD, more specifically BJones. Dual SIM both 4G. Got the unlocked TDE version. Had to flash with Dev MIUI 7, Root, then install GApps. Runs a beauty. Google calendar App won't work sync if you uninstall the MIUI stock calendar but it can sync with google anyway so don't really need google calendar app. Also got it for US136.99. 2 weeks delivery.

  • Is the screen glass or plastic???

  • Its a bit suss as the heading says FDD version and the price is referring to TD version.
I am with Telstra and will only work with FDD version. Very confusing.

    • "Larget Memory for Smoothy" +1.

  • Wrong description.

TDD Model isn't suitable for Vodafone. The only two TDD carriers in Australia are NBN and Optus, both using band 40.

    • Fixed the description.

Here is some excellent information kusala has researched and put together:

        http://whrl.pl/ReoZKk

As I understand it, this phone should have access to the same bands as the FDD-LTE edition because the hardware is the same, and the phone is limited by the software.

In any case, I am going to flash MIUI 7 unofficial with GAPPS and OTA once I get it anyway.

        • That's an interesting read, however if there is bloat/malware and it needs flashing to MIUI 7, what are the odds it will revert?

  • Been thinking of buying for weeks and something always stops me. This time the seller is listing a LTE phone in the title as pointed out earlier, and then has a table with 3 versions and their specs, and the description informs 156 bucks is the TDD model. However the only way to change the price is by selecting a different colour, except for the fact that it doesn't tell you that anything is different except he colour, and the price goes up to 165 and 170. To make it more confusing, he then has a link to the Prime model (suggesting that it isn't the 170) and it costs 205 there. How much more confusing could it be?

    • After reading some of the comments on the whirlpool forum from the link posted by "somethingguy" above, it looks promising that the TD-LTE will work fine in Australia.

I am myself using a Xiaomi Mi4 TD-LTE version (it clearly says on the back of the phone "TD-LTE") with Vodafone and the 4G works fine for me.

So if you want you could order the TD-LTE and install the Miui 7 global ROM on it and it is most likely going to be alright.

      • Is that the only thing you need to do though? I thought the radio frequency was dictated by hardware first (and yes according to that it support those freqs) and then my understanding was that usually you need to flash something else before the ROM for frequency support? Mind you this was years ago (the last time I looked into frequency changes on android). It may have also been because hacked roms chefs at the time didn't have any idea how to do it maybe

  • Just bought this. Anyone jump on this deal?

  • I just ordered, $215, FDD version, black

  • Looks like JD have increased the price from USD 156.99 to USD 165.99. (excluding USD 20 discount using JD999 code)

  • Good price but why the delivery cost is soooo expensive that DHL : 61$ ???
How abount this 166$ + DHL 17$ ibuygouwith this coupon: ibg6992ByDHL

  • Got one of these a few weeks back for $US145 delivered.
now I need another one but the price is some much more (due to the US$30 postage mainly)….any good deals around?

  • Did anyone order from this deal and get the phone? I ordered on 24th Oct and only just realised that the seller sent me the following message:

"Seller: sorry, friend, there is no postal service to your country now, you could cancel the order, we refund your money2015-10-30 21:35:36"

    • I ordered one for the delivery to an Indian address and it was received all good.
