Massdrop Blue Box - MEE Audio MEEWhat? Grab Bag (USD $35/AUD $48.48) Shipped @ Massdrop

160

The price on the title was calculated using XE.com rate, AUD $1 to USD $0.72.
Maximum of two is allowed, though you get second one with cheaper shipping (USD $1.5), AUD $84.82, so AUD $42.41 each.

I dislike posting something that relies on chances, but given how nothing on it seems to be below USD $35, I thought I might share the deal

  • M-Duo Dual-Driver In-Ear Earphones (Black) - 41.25% odds
  • A151 2nd Generation Balanced Armature In-Ear Monitors - 21.25% odds
  • M-Duo Dual-Driver In-Ear Earphones (Red) - 12.5% odds
  • M-Duo Dual-Driver In-Ear Earphones (Gold) - 11.25% odds
  • A151P 2nd Generation Balanced Armature In-Ear Monitors - 10% odds
  • Matrix2 AF62 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headphones - 3.75% odds

M-Duo has been around USD $46 in a recent deal or USD $39 in rather an old deal
Matrix2 AF62 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headphones have been AUD $104.96 in a recent deal
A151 has been at USD $39 as well (from the old deal mentioned above)

Also, they are doing the Massdrop prize as well, currently, 1,000+ unit has been purchased, so there is 1/1000 chance of getting Fiio X1 and 1/1000 chance of getting K553 instead of the MEElec Prize. Both of them are above USD $100 as far as I remember.

500 units purchased - (1) AKG K7XX [UNLOCKED]
1,000 units purchased - (1) FiiO X1 [UNLOCKED], (1) AKG K553 [UNLOCKED]
1,500 units purchased -(1) SHURE SE535 [UNLOCKED], (1) AKG K7XX [UNLOCKED]
2,000 units purchased - (1) Sony MDR-Z7 [UNLOCKED] (1) Grado SR80e [UNLOCKED]
4,000 units purchased - (1) Sennheiser HD800 [LOCKED]

After 4,000 units, they will end the drop.

Only irk I have with this deal is the estimated shipping date (Nov 18, 2015). Knowing massdrop, you might not be able to get this before Christmas (I'd say the chances are very high).

I didn't realise that the massdrop had a referral system (asked the mods to adjust the post accordingly to the Ozbargain rules), so the main link is referral free. However, if any of you want to use my referral link:

Not a bad deal. But tbh if you are on a budget pistons are best value.

    • Depends on where you sit on best value. I personally prefer KSC-75 more in terms of sound, if you go into best sounding headphone/earphone. Also, I have not been using Piston 3 because I dislike how it sounds compared to other earphones (I use my gf's QuadBeat 2 with the Sony silicon tips I've got).

  • I have m-duos they are hard to fault. bass rich maybe not the best for working out or running as the weight tends to pull them out of your ears. Better than my mk2 pistons as far as sound but not fit.

I replaced the tips with Comply TX-400's and that has been a major improvement in fit, isolation and sound quality. Not a cheap mod but it was worth a shot after I lost the one meelec tip that was working for me.

      • Great idea. I've used Comply tips for all my earphones to date and it has always significantly improved the comfort and SQ (except for Shures - those come with amazing foam tips)

    • If the weight pulls them down while exercising, have you tried wearing them over the ear?
It might help with it coming out (as well as reduce "microphonic" i.e. noise from cable rubbing against your shirt).

+1 for the effort of probability. Appreciate for it, OP. Keep up the good work.

  • Are these better than xiaomi piston?

    • This may be controversial but I have the A161P and the Piston v2 (completely different tiers), and while the A161P is more technically accurate, the Pistons are far more enjoyable to listen to (music-wise) and I find that I'm defaulting to using the Pistons when I leave the house every morning.

Eh, even though some audiophiles tend to go on and on about hi-fi, what really matters is what you enjoy.
