CashRewards not paying up - Expedia booking

Hi,

I booked approx $1750 of (paid up front, non refundable) hotels with expedia via cashrewards in Feb 2015 which had an expected cashback value of about $96. Two days later I received confirmation from cash rewards that they were tracking the purchase.

In May I sent them a query asking why the cashback hadn't been paid to me and was told it can take up to 3 months from the travel date which was in July/August 2015. This in itself is strange considering the purchase was non refundable but I thought ok fine I can wait if that is the rules.

24th October I sent an email asking why it still hadn't been paid and was told the following:

"We checked your account and see that your transactions have been declined. Upon checking the reason for decline with the store, we received an update that unfortunately on this occasion, your purchases made through Expedia have not attributed to Cashrewards and as a result Cashrewards has not received any payment for the purchase made. Regrettably, we are unable to process cash rewards for this purchase. We are sorry that we are unable to provide you with good news on this occasion.

Some reasons as to why this transaction may not have attributed to Cashrewards include:

  • Having open other web pages (including search sites, social media, other store sites) or web browsers whilst visiting the store;
  • Clicking though to another page from a banner or ad on the store's webpage whilst shopping;
  • Antivirus/ cleanup application tasks may remove tracking cookies (which are required to track transactions).

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for using Cashrewards when you shop online."

WOW! Is all I could think…I always open a new browser with ad block and ghostery off and only open the cashrewards window, then go to the store that way to make the purchase.

The exact same way I did the other 20 transactions have all worked no problem yet this one apparently was done incorrectly?

I also dont get how it could have been tracked by cashewards as a purchase that entire time yet when it comes to actually paying they are saying it wasnt done via cashrewards.

Not happy :(

  • but did you enjoy your holiday?

  • My cashback for Expedia took 7 months after completion of travel.
You could try asking the CR rep ahc99 to investigate https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/99671

  • +1

Never got my cash back from Hallenstein Brothers or Book Depository and those would have yielded quite a bit.

Only seem to ever get eBay ones…

    • Likewise OO.com and deals direct purchases nothing, eBay, Masters (late) are the only reliable rewards

  • My Lenovo cashback on a laptop bought on 17 July 2015 through this : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203225 shows up declined now. 830.91 (less GST) at 7.2% for 59.82 cashback.

A rep even contacted me (no previous communication w/ cashrewards beforehand) via email on 4 September 2015 for a copy of my invoice as part of their "approvals" process.

4 months of waiting for absolutely nothing. Seriously disgusting.

    • i'm finding large cashback amounts tend to decline.
      even with Ebay!

    • It's been changed to approved now

  • Very important to remember that if you're using a coupon that is not listed on cashrewards then the cashback probably won't work.

  • I'm still waiting for several purchases to be paid to me. Starting to get pretty sick of cash rewards.

    • Neither to disappoint you nor to promote pricepal but i got almost $200 cashback from pricepal which includes cashback from Telstra prepaid, booking.com, amaysim etc…

      • +1

I see their cashback rates are a lot lower, but I guess that's a trade off for reliability.

        • Yeah thats true but for me i m founder member + i have accumulated some bonus in my account, so they match each $ cashback with same amount from my bonus.

  • None of my recent Cashrewards transactions have tracked, and I had no joy from submitting a customer service request. They requested more info (invoices etc) which I sent, and then I just never heard back from them. I won't be using Cashrewards for cashbacks again - I am doing all the right things to make sure cookies track (and not using coupons) etc, and have not had issues with Qwibble. Will just use them or Pricepal and get a lower cashback from now on, Cashrewards sucks.

  • Heard nothing since 30/10/2015 about my Expedia query that was being looked at again after I provided evidence of the transaction.

  • FYI - I got an email today acknowledging the Expedia transactions had been incorrectly declined and the fund were now available to payout.

Great outcome! one I wasn't really expecting.

It isnt great that to get to this point I had to push back on them over and over, complain on forums and pm and email the reps.

How many thousands of dollars have been pocketed by retailers or even cashrewards (I hope this isnt the case) because people cant be bothered chasing it up.

  • Cashback is good WHEN it works.. it seems to be extremely inconsistent with it's tracking system (and YES i've followed all the suggested steps). That being said, I wouldn't purchase something JUST because it offers a 2% cashback or whatever, i just just wish there was a way to retrospectively (is that the word?) get cashback on a purchase if it DOESNT track it for whatever reason

  • yes, it takes min 6-7 months, or no cash back at all :(

  • TIL you can use cashrewards for expedia :|

    Just booked a hotel yesterday

  • Did 2 bookings with Expedia one through Cash Rewards one through Pricepal neither tracked, i did use the MasterCard 12% off discount but thought they should still at least track. Yes i cleared my cookies and didn't have any other pages open.

  • I just had a 90% Cashback from NordVPN reduced from $160 to $51.

    • $160 to $51 is not 90% no matter how I calculate

      • The 90% CB was around $160 and showed as pending in my account. a couple of days ago it changed to $51

        • Good news. They fixed it!
