Penfolds Grange 2011, nice nice nice but no budget….

    • +5

      It's 2011… I wouldn't bother. Start saving now for the '12!!!

      • Or spend wiser and get the '10. It's not an accident the 11 is being discounted.

  • Bah all the RWT/St Henri's disappeared.

    • every time Penfolds were excluded from % off sales. why this time?

      • Errr nope. It's always been Grange/707/389 only. Not sure if it's deliberate or what but last time when they had the 20% off shortly after the 15/10, RWT/St Henri's were applicable too.

        • Their fact checking is terrible so likely to be mistakes each time.

  • Wish I could justify spending the money on the penfolds but went with:

    Crackerjack Riesling 2014 (12 Bottles)
    Rook's Lane Merlot 2014 (12 Bottles)
    15 CHEAP REDS (15 bottles)

$233.88 Subtotal (incl GST) - 25.0% Promo Code Applied
    $183.40 Total - $13.45 cashback
$169.95 for 39 bottles of wine Delivered.

    Great bargain OP.

    • thanks, forgot about cashback - deal updated :)

Be careful, 2011 was a terrible year for grange.

    Clearly they can't move them.
    Save your money.

    • It's a bit early to make that claim. They've only been released for two-three weeks, and usually Grange is excluded from purchase via winemarket codes.

But yes, down the track I'm sure the 2011 will be hard to push. In fact, most vintages of Grange are cheaper to pick up down the track than upon release

      • I'm kind of sitting here undecided.

So far reviews are poor (low 90s) and I haven't seen any Halliday review yet (he is often 3-4 points below the other guys).

On the other hand you have the strong brand cachet and it's plausible you could cash in with a sealed carton down the track.

        • I actually find Halliday to be consistently above other reviwers…

        • Halliday gave the 2011 Grange 93 points with a drink by 2026. 2011 was the worst year in South Australia since 2000, they really shouldn't have made Grange, but with Grange being made every year since 1951 they will always make it no matter how bad the vintage is. I'm sure prices will continue to drop on the 2011 as it isn't going to to able to lie down for 50 years like the 2010 vintage, which was the best vintage of this century.

If you want Grange, many vintages auction for $300-400 at Langtons.

Among vintages selling currently are 1983 & 1990 both supposed to be good years & both likely to sell in that range.

    • wow, thx. always thought they would keep appreciating. why would people want a "modern" bottle when they can get an 80's vintage for the same money or less?

      • Because retailers have to pay a higher tax on selling older wine. An auction doesn't by nature of its function. However auctions aren't as easy to access and have no recourse.

  • What's the minimum spend?

    • seems to be $70 - deal updated :)

  • Sorry, let me just call Barry to check if he is ok with a 2011 Grange

    • lol who is barry?

      • Barry is the gentleman who enjoys his 2011 Grange with a dash of coke zero

      • Ask Mike, who now enjoys the spoils of Barry's old job. PS NSW issue

    • Did Barry spit it out?
Oh sorry - it spat him out didn't it

  • seems like the code doesn't work on 389 and Grange anymore!

    • thanks - deal updated :(

  • I cant seem to get the code to work for the Grange. It says that the voucher does not apply to items in the cart………

    • it worked like 15minutes ago, but it seems they stopped it

  • "This voucher does not apply to items in the cart." - Darn, doesn't work on the Penfolds range anymore….

  • Bloody expensive for a drink :)

Thanks. Ordered some of the Heirloom Barossa Shiraz

    • Likewise. $16 for 96 Halliday points is pretty good.

      • Agreed! Report back here after first tasting?

        • Will do :)

    Nah.
PEPPERJACK BAROSSA SHIRAZ 2013 (6 BOTTLES) comes to $100.24
At Dan Murphys $95.70 and I can pickup

  • Says invalid. I think its expired.

    • GQ had a one day shopping event yesterday until midnight, so I'd say so. tonester?

  • I successfully completed the order yesterday for Penfolds wine, got the confirmation and all. WineMarket just gave me a call to tell me that my order was invalid and they want me to cancel it or pay the difference to get the Penfolds.

I was hoping they would honour it. Anyone else getting the call?

    • +1

They want you to cancel? If the choice is yours then the answer is pretty simple. If they go and cancel your order, then depending on the conditions of the promo code were at the time of your purchase there may be some recourse.

I still can't believe they'd call you trying to get you to pay full price. Maybe their web team need to be a little more detail oriented - it's not the first time winemarket have done this.

      • they just cancel my order too. wasting time >.<

      • +1

        conditions of the promo code

        none :)

        • Extremely poor form for WineMarket to be cancelling these orders. The code did not publicise any exclusions. Surely it wouldn't have cost them that much to wear what one would assume to be a minor shortfall from including Penfolds in the deal?

        • @adelee: yes is the penfolds 389 :(

        • @tonester

Well actually if you click through the link on GQ it takes you to the following landing page at WineMarket: http://www.winemarket.com.au/GQ which states at the bottom:
