I bought some about 2 years ago and still have probably 50 left. They are great. Work just as well as the store bought ones for 1/1000th of the cost (or there abouts…)

      • Thank you for this.

      • How are these things different from a regular sponge?

        • +6

They are basically sand paper (on a very, very fine level)

So great for getting marks off walls, cleaning cooktops etc. You just wet them a bit (no need for cleaning chemicals) and they work wonders.

Of course don't use them on surfaces that are very delicate (I wouldn't use it on a car for example). But on walls, benches, floors, etc they are great.

        • @stratbargain:
Thanks, I never thought of sponge as fine grit sand paper.

Yes, it is. I've done over 300 transactions on AliExpress with various visa cards and never had a card problem.

About 5% of transactions disappeared (ie: never delivered) or were DOA and I got easy refunds on all of those.

About 1% of transactions went dodgy (ie: item was sh1t and supplier was a d1ck about it).

All-in-all, it's pretty good and certainly as safe or safer than eBay.

I check my credit card statements religiously. I've never seen anything dodgy on any of my cards relating to an AliExpress purchase.

I have seen someone (or two) mention on OzBargain in the past that they had mysterious credit card problems that coincided with buying on AliExpress, but I've never experienced that. Your credit card number doesn't get passed on to the supplier, your payment goes to AliExpress, not to the supplier.

AliExpress uses an escrow process, so the supplier doesn't get paid until you confirm receipt of the goods or the set-at-sale-time timer runs out. If the timer (usually 60 days) is getting close to ending, you can ask the supplier to agree to extend it (they pretty much always agree) or ask for a refund. Suppliers seem pretty terrified of bad feedback, so they rarely give any drama.

The buyer has a fair bit of power on AliExpress. I think that it's very important to (1) be patient (it typically takes 30-45, sometimes 60, days for stuff to arrive in Australia), (2) be culturally sensitive (check carefully for misunderstandings and misinterpretations and be nice about it), and (3) don't be a d1ck.

          7.50 AUD on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281755563025

Mine took two weeks to arrive. Massive parcel…

        • @nosdan: Well, damn. Looks like that listing (and seller) are pretty new though, would explain why I didn't see it when I ordered.

Fantastic link. I just ordered my 100 for $6 usd. Not a bad deal at all. these songes are great getting scum off shower glass too. Thanks for the info

ALDI have their own version for half the price. But yeah the AliExpress deal looks good.

  • Great for glass and stainless steel, but I find if you use them on mugs (to get tea stains off), they work really well, but the mugs surface seems to stain worse the more you clean them.

The Chinese ones are heaps cheaper, but some are quite light weight and fall to bits easily.

    • They can fall apart if you press too hard. But at the same time I find if you're pressing hard enough or them to fall apart you're pressing too hard and will likely hurt the surface your cleaning. On rough surfaces though they can fall apart relatively quickly. But at 6 cents each it's not too bad :)

      • Thanks. First time ive heard of these. So are the safe to use on kitchen appliances and utensils? How many times can u use one before it disintegrates or u have to throw them?
