Cheers customer assistant. Hopefully you will be a shift supervisor one day.

Haha - oh you. Thanks for the kind words.

        from Fishy's post.

        • thats a fairly old deal…
Pretty sure most of those people would have claimed that by buying $100 wish cards already (i know i did)

        • Right. Missed that one. Thanks anyway

        • @SBOB:

Actually this is a separate deal. Spend 100 get 15 was the old deal. On one of my new AMEX cards there's a spend 100 get 15 back ONLINE ONLY deal. Considering buying a gift card but they charge $5.50 delivery (yeah I know it still works out in my favour but still)! Anyone know a way to get free shipping?

          thx

  • thanks

    Hooray for decent beer.

    • You're being sarcastic?

      • I'm with you there. I'm just trying to decide if this selection is worse or better than last month. I can't decide…

  • +6

Lazy Yak is terrible compared to Fat Yak. Really lacking in flavor. Worth a shot to try for $10 (better than the crap on offer last month) but I found it to be incredibly bland.

Haven't tried the mid strength Asahi and can't remember if Moa was anything special. Pretty sure it's a 4 pack though not a 6 pack?

    • +1

      Dan says it's a $10 pack (6).

      • Whoops, wrong image. Asahi pack (6)

      • Oh cool, might be worth another try. I just remember it coming in 'mini cartons' of 4 beers a while ago.

    • +1

Fat Yak is disgusting IMO, but then again so is a lot of mass produced Australian beers

    • +3

I had a chocolate stout from a bendigo brewery last week, wasn't very good. Later in the week i had a Carlton draught on a sunny afternoon walking the dog and it was perfect. Sometimes Bland is just what the occasion calls for.

      • Yup, nothing like a big dirty beer like Carlton Draft or even Emu Export after mowing the lawn / walking the dog / pretty much anything physical.

      • +1

Question: Were you having your beer WHILE walking your dog?

        • +1

          (is this a trick question?)

    thanks for posting :)

what do you know about the free VIP Night on Thursday 12th November ("premium tastings, bonus gift and fantastic one-night-only offers")?

    • +1

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about it. Since it is a free event, it sounds worth it to me :)

  • Thanks OP, I've been waiting (not so patiently) for a better beer month than that offered over the past number of months. It's Lazy Yak for me …..,,

    • +6

It's a pretty poor beer offer this month… Lazy Yak tastes like water.

      • Thanks for the 'heads up' …. purchased MOA instead :-)

    • +1

September (August?) was great with the Sam Adams for ten bucks (though it didn't last very long), and before that the Hop Thief was okay and Gage Rd Pale ale wasn't too bad.

Last month was total shite though, I agree there.

  • +1

Awesome, finally real craft beer for $10! as in MOA. :D

    • Real craft beer? I think you missed the sarcasm tag…

      • +1

No I don't think so. Moa make some the best beers in the world. The session ale is approaching the mass produced level I know but it's $10. Still going to be better than any James Squire (which isn't craft any more) or anything by Matilda bay (also not craft).

  • +9

These deals just get worse and worse…

    • +7

These deals are slightly better than last months to be honest. At least the MOA is something new and somewhat interesting. Last months deals were rubbish though i agree.

  • Moa session is decent, not keen on mid strength for $10 though.
Cider offers look ok and hogs 3 bourbon for $31 is ok too.

    • It's 4.7%

Hilarious review on Rate Beer for the new Asahi: "Sweaty, lipid dominated nose with a touch of urinal cake, baked ricotta cheese and lemon. Pours a translucent, thin and watery looking strained gold with a head that went up and back straight with similar haste. Dank, chalky liquor on the palate. So thin it has got to be lower than the gravity of water. Carbonation is acidic upfront but is low from there on in making it drabby on the palate and heavy in the finish. Chemical, soapy swallow. No flavour to lift it. For f*%k’s sake this is embarrassing. And mid-strength to boot. Hope I can claim the purchase on tax as I was knowingly ripped off with this one. Woeful!!"

  • +1

I will give the Moa a try but agree with others that Lazy Yak is a flavourless crap beer that is best avoided.

  • +10

The last great deal was the $10/6pack for Hop Thief.

Still waiting for anything even remotely as good.

    • +7

Samuel Adams, Hop Thief and White Rabbit have been the only decent deals for me. Not holding my breath for anything else.

      • +3

Ah yes.. Samuel Adams was good, never tried White Rabbit.

I think the deals started off good and have been going downhill.

        • +1

I think the deals started off good and have been going downhill.

          They call it 'marketing'

        • Like other parts of the Woolworths business, they're probably leaning on the suppliers to fund the discounts. When they don't see a spike in sales beyond the 1 month period of the promotion, they're probably gun-shy to offer again which means they have to keep doing the rounds through all the different suppliers they deal with.

It means, in my opinion, they will either reduce the range offered on discount, specialise on new products or just have the same stuff over and over again at a "reduced price" while bumping up the regular price of the product (like they do with the supermarket specials).

  • +1

i quite enjoyed the Cricketers Arms Keeper's Lager a couple of months ago when it was $10. Not much else has been great on offer recently.

    • Yep, that one was one of my favourites too! Along with the Hop Thief - that was liquid gold.

    • Yeah I did enjoy the cricketers arms pale ale.

  • +1

$32 for Rebellion Bay is good.

  • Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whiskey 700ml $41.90

Is that a good price? Or normal price?

    • It's the lowest I've ever seen it.

    • A great blended malt too. Blended malt's are hard to find in the market - not sure why. It may have something to do with people's obsession with single malt. To me it makes perfect sense - take great single malts and blend them together to try to come up with something where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Great Scotch at a great price IMHO.

I know it isn't your area, but could you please tell someone that the MDM offers page is super annoying… You can't easily view the product page from it - you have to add it to the cart, view the cart, then click on the item. Or search for it I suppose.

Make it click through to the product page!! :(

    • +1

      Yes, this! Pretty annoying!

    • +1

This may be something to post to the Dan Murphy's Facebook page or through the website. I'm not sure how to send this up the chain.

      • +1

        Will do!

    Any idea on expiry dates?

    • good point, I just bought a 6 pack of Tower 10 yesterday, 31/10 and the expiry date was 2015 November,, and it was not in the clearance bin

    • Varies store to store, product to product.

    • +2

The Moa Pale is pretty fresh at my local Dan's (Norwood, SA). 09-16 expiry.

  • How do i get the deal? I log in, put a 6 pack in my checkout and it still shows as the RRP $15.

  • +1

Lagavulin @ $79.95 and Johnny Black @ $37.95 are very good prices. For those who need to stock up, you wont see either cheaper.

    • I just noticed they have Laphroaig for $69.95 atm too, which is pretty good.

  • Gage Roads Pils 3.5 is also $10/6-pack. Or ~$43 per carton. Reviews on DM are highly favourable.

    • The deal is for a carton; there is no 6-pack special.

It is $35 for the carton, which is still a great deal.

  • +1

I'm sipping a Moa Pale atm and it's not bad. A bit thin and watery, but pretty good for ten bucks a sixer.

  • The last few months it seems like these dan murphy's membership deals are just them trying to get rid of the crap that isn't selling and getting close to the use by dates?

    • +1

Nah. When I bought some Moa Pale today they had a bunch of cartons stacked up that were all fresh (October 2016 best by dates), and I remember them getting fresh palettes of Hop Thief in once they sold out when that was on.

  • +1

I'm interested to try the Moa, but stay away from the Lazy Yak. Markets itself as a hoppy beer but I couldn't taste anything in there, terrible beer. Wouldn't have been as annoyed if it didn't try to be something it wasn't - and at nearly $21 a sixpack for normal price, who the hell is going to buy that?

    • +1

Yeah Matilda Bay are pretty shit, and much like James Squire. Mass produced faux 'craft beer'. I remember their Alpha Pale Ale was pretty good, but I haven't tried one for years.

The Moa Session Pale is worth a try for ten bucks and isn't bad, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. A lot of people who aren't total beer dorks like me will probably love it though. It's a decent — if thin — easy drinking pale ale.

  • +5

Just tasting the Moa now. It taste's like a clown's vagina that took a spoonful of sherbet and got spat out of a graviton.

    • +6

Thank you. That was both vivid and specific.

    • +1

I can't work out if you're saying it tastes good or it tastes bad :P

      • +1

i am little concerned about tomski182 knowing the taste of a clowns vag - beer can lead some people to do strange things but …… :)

  • Rokorderlic Dry Apple Cider is also $10 for 6…. anyone tried it?

    • +1

Having one now, over ice. I would still call it sweet. Definitely not as dry as some 'craft ciders'

  • Hey OP! Thanks for this.
Was wondering if you would know if there were any deals on cases of your more 'popular' branded beers on sale coming up soon?

    • +1

Hi mate, unfortunately I don't find out the special prices until everyone else does as well (other than the monthly offers).

I recommend you keep an eye on the "This Week's Offers" page.

  • is the Asahi Soukai Premium Beer taste as good as the original one? Made in Aus apparently?

    • +6

You must have missed a review above. Yes, made in Aus because there are weaklings out there that:
      1) want easy-drinking characterless beers that are all about maintaining their figure and avoiding anything remotely challenging flavour-wise, and;
2)can't count their standard drinks on 'full strength' beer.

I call it the 'XXXX gold effect', and it's infecting international brands (e.g. Peroni 'Leggera'), not to mention the legion of 'low carb' beers and the 'golden/summer/lazy/pale' ales flooding in at 4.2% alc (Squire 150 lashes, Lazy Yak etc etc).

When will people learn that flavour in beer is carried by alcohol? I call these sorts of beers donut beers - the sensation of a drinking a beer is all there, but there's a hole where the flavour should be. Which just makes me think - more people want to be seen drinking a beer than actually tasting a beer. End rant.

  • MOA is undrinkable way to malty no where near enough hops for my taste

  • How do you buy the DM MEMBER. Pack beers at $10 through cash rewards??

    • +1

Got it. Can select either carton or pack.

Didn't see it on the drop down menu online.
