I'm not a huge fan of this particular bag - but this is sort of normal price range for a great quality messenger bag. I've had my Timbuk2 bag (which was a similar price) for nearly a decade now and still love it.
How is this a bargain?

I've met girls that spend nearly 30 times that amount on bags that are far less practical.

I'm not sure how it could be. I know three people who have purchased bags worth several thousand dollars, these people happen to be young women.
Incidentally I attach no value judgement to someone spending money on "impractical" hobbies or luxury items that bring them happiness.
By way of counterpoint, I know several men who have repeatedly bought bottles of whisky worth several hundred dollars (which have even less practical use than the most impractical handbag). I also know a few that have spent thousands on over-specced PCs and sound systems… If any of that makes you feel any better.
