Cheapest Way from Melbourne Airport to Port Melbourne

A group of 4 adults need to get from Melbourne airport to Port Melbourne on Sunday morning. What would be the cheapest way to do this? I'm considering Uber, as I've never used it before and should be able to get $30 off using a code right? Does anyone know around how much it would cost?

Otherwise I think I remember catching a bus from the airport to a train station then heading into the CBD, but I can't remember the details any more…

Thanks

With 4 adults, it's probably cheaper to catch a cab than the skybus then tram.

Not sure how to uber from the airport.

  • How much would a regular cab be on a Sunday morning around 10am? Thanks

    • try this http://www.taxi.vic.gov.au/passengers/taxi-passengers/taxi-f…

Your taxi trip at: 12:00 PM
      From: Melbourne Airport, Vic 3045
      To: Port Melbourne Vic 3207

      is estimated to cost:* $60.00
This trip is based on a distance of: 24.93km

The fare is within the Metro or Outer suburban zones and therefore peak (holiday) rates may apply. This brings the estimate to:* $66.88
      Read about peak (holiday) rates

This trip includes the following fee(s):
      Airport fee
      Tollways fee

      at a cost of $7.10

      or this site http://www.taxifare.com.au/
says Estimated Fare $45.19 to $63.27

but you try and put exact addresses in

        Sounds about right $60

Don't bother with the bus you'll end up paying more in total than the cab

The cheapest way would be to walk. Depends how much you value your time.

    • Hilarious suggestion.

According to Google maps around 24km and 5 hours to walk.

      • Free with the bonus of a free workout hauling those suitcases. Get to experience Melbourne's suburbs too!

I did jog/walk/bicycle from Osaka to Kyoto one drunken rainy night… so Airport to CBD should be a walk in the park ;)

You can take the 901 bus outside Terminal 1 to Broadmeadows station and take the train into the city (allow around 1-1.5 hours for this at least) and you'll need a myki.

On Sundays, the first bus is 6:38 with 1/2 hour frequency, and the first train from Broadmeadows departs 7:35 with 20 mins frequency.

    More info is here: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/getting-around/airport-buses/

    • So a 2 Hour fare, on a Sunday, would be $3.76 each. (Daily ticket $6 each)

If you don't already have a myki card, the cost will be $6 each.
Total cost, a little under $10 each.

So only about $5 per person cheaper than a taxi that is door to door.

  • Pay someone from OzB to drive you ?

I'm thinking I might try a cab. The 3 other guys I'm with aren't really OzBargain material unfortunately. Going by cab will probably be more straight forward and cost around $15 to $20 divided up by 4.
