  • Nice price for a very nice TV. Has FTA recording right out of the box (unlike Sony AFAIK).

    • -1

      Is 100Hz too slow?

      • +1

No, everything on tv/foxtel is at 24hz. Consoles run at max 60hz. And since you are asking, you probably won't have a PC that runs past 100hz

    • +3

now if only there was something on FTA worth recording…

  • What is the +$1 aspect? If it is for the audio lot I see no way of claiming it for $1.

    • +1

Adding an extra dollar to push the total price over the minimum amount for the coupon to work.

      • Is this just for certain items or $300 in general? I tried adding Apple TV 4 and Chromecast ($318) but coupon didn't work.

        • Apple products and Chromecasts are generally excluded from these coupons

  • +3

Thanks Trent. You're finding some awesome UHD TV deals at the moment!

Can anyone comment on which TV they would choose between this Panasonic and the Sony KD55X8500C (which I'm reasonably confident I'll get for the same price) and why?

    • +2

I would still go the Sony again because of Android TV

    • I went and viewed the Sony yesterday, with the intention of buying one.
I viewed some HD content on it, then walked out of the store disappointed.

A lot of these modern panels are very disappointing these days.
I'd certainly go and view both for yourself.

I too thought the Android OS would be fun to play with, but it is very restricted, as is the Playstore content.

      • +1

I didn't see it like that at all. If you play with the image settings and adjust the picture correction it's a great TV. Must have been what they were playing in store…You can also sideload apps onto the TV from any USB drive-I've had no issues with Spotify and Freedom VPN which work flawlessly. Just my opinion though.

Disappointed compared to what exactly? And what was disappointing about it? Genuinely interested in your response.

        • +2

Disappointed, compared to what i expected and what reviews i had read before going.

          Light bleed
          Trailing on horizontal panning
I could go on, but if you want the only answer that will please you, go and have a look for yourself.
Who knows, you may be happy with it.
I wasn't, and for the reasons above.

Thats all compared to 6 year old Song Bravia X that i own.
A Samsung Series 6 that i own (its pretty crap too)
Its also compared to other sets i viewed in store from other manufacturers.

The whole thing looked cheap to me, as a lot of them do now days.
I did like the OSD and Android simplified menu.
I didn't take my portable HDD with Known difficult file formats, frame rates and UHD content to test.
Was just tested with Broadcast HD.

        • @RojoMojo:

Was after an honest answer based on your experience. There isn't a particular answer I'm after. I looked at a bunch of panels in store the other day and admittedly I didn't spend a great deal of time examining the picture exhaustively on any of them. The Sony in my limited viewing looked just how I expected it would. I'm going to have another closer look to check viewing angles and the like. I'm not as focused on the minutia of image quality as I once was, so off centre viewing angle is the main concern I have. Light bleed is a worry as is the trailing on pans (though what sets don't exhibit this to some degree?). I agree that the majority of sets appear to be cheap in appearance, the Sony was better than others on that front from what I saw.

Thanks for reply, if you've got any further detail to add please go for it.

          @CanadaAye:

Also, in store, ask if you can play with the motionflow settings/change picture modes-the Sony is quite flexible and the wrong settings can significantly take away from the viewing experience.

        • +1

          @donnot:

          Thanks.

        • @RojoMojo: You can see light bleed in store? Wow, that is bad. I cannot imagine what it would be like in home when you turn down the room light. What happened to local dimming?

      • +1

RojoMojo, go to a couple of different stores if you can and check the TV out, I went to 2 when I was tossing between Samsung & Sony and while in one store the Sony looked washed out, in another it looked stunning….it all depends on the settings they set and from my perspective what they want to sell that month.

    • +2

Pretty sure the Sony doesn't have Twin HD Tuner in it but this does, the Sony does have 3D But that's nothing special these days

      • Thanks Trent. Pulled the trigger on this due to the twin tuner and TV Anytime function. Not that impressed with the upscaling though :(

Love your work - keep it up!

    • Sony KD55X8500C has 3D function, this Panasonic(VIERA TH-55CX640A) doesn't. I prefer KD55X8500C.

  • Found a review of what is the equivalent 60 inch with 3D capability (not apples for apples but I couldn't find anything else)

    http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/panasonic/viera-60xc700…

I really like the idea of the TV Anytime feature (can watch the footy while I'm out and about - take that Telstra!) but I have Fetch TV which records programs to SD rather than HD so upscaling is really important. Which to choose?!?!?

  • +4

another deal on 55"s , have seen lot of deals on 55 inches lately but there are hardly any good deals for 60 inches uhd or fullhds

  • +2

how is the sound bar? anyone has any experience with it? can't find any review in google.

  • Speaking from experience - If you want a smart TV, don't waste your money on a TV that is not running Android. If you don't need the smart functionality, then find a cheaper TV with the same specs without the smarts to save some dollars.

    • +1

I have smart TV and I don't have android and it's also an old smart version but I still love it, it's on my Samsung TV, also the best smart layout is still webos by LG

      • A smart TV integrated with Android will always deliver more functionality than any other smart TV integrated with any other OS, there is just no argument otherwise, sorry.

If you want prettiness - Feel free to go with something else and waste some money.

Great TV otherwise - Just don't get it if you want a decent integrated OS.

        • Bit more content On Android I think but In reviews it's in this order, WEBOS2.0, firefox, Samsung tizen, Sony Android. its not just about content though it needs to run smoothly too and be easy to use

        • @TRENT86:

Content will be king when the manufacturers do what they always do after 2 years: abandon it.

The thing with the ability to side-load apps with the Android software is at least you can restore basic functions with 3rd party apps.

I bought one Sony from Harvey Norman on Thursday, and I loved it.
Its has everything I needed, 1080 movie on it is awesome for me cause i upgrade from 2009 LG scarlet

I Installed Kodi, Popcorn Time, Games, they worked
So, 2nd day with Sony x8500c still very happy with the image quality and the benefit of android

    • The ability to load Kodi without any external device is certainly noteworthy. I currently run it on an Amazon Fire connected to a non-smart TV.

  • Any ideas what the input lag would be like on this? Wouldnt mind a crazy gaming monitor.

IIRC, 100hz a tv id interpolated- so its nothing like a 100hz gaming monitor? Is that right?
