Yay! Coventry really desperately needs this. I'll bet Tony got a good deal on the rent. A potato per month?

    • Have you noticed how MCQ (the other supermarket) has now become part of Farmer Jacks? Yeah, so in the process they've put the price of EVERYTHING up.
Packets of sauces have gone up on average 15-20c over night for example.

I'm not a massive fan of spudshed because their produce is pretty average, it's fine if you want to take it home and eat within a few days, but not much good for a weekly shop.

Shame that the existing monopoly had to get in bed with someone larger to guarantee their survival, it's almost like now that they have FJ's backing them they have some kind of insurance policy if business goes bad.

I suspect within a few weeks of Spudshed being open there will be quite a few people going back to the other joint.

  • IMO;
I have been to the wangara Spud shed a couple of times and the produce isn't all that great and you'd be mad to buy the meat.

Morley already has the Morley market green grocer and Farmer Jakes. The later has great vegies and equally as good meat from Harvey beef.

As someone who shops regularly there - i both agree and disagree.

The Fruit and Vegies can be hit and miss. I always shop there first and choose what is decent and then fill the gaps at Woolies of either what wasn't there or wasn't good. Largely though I find I can have a decent shop there and get 80-90% of what i need. Though sometimes i might switch in nectarines for peaches or pears for apples depending on quality.

With regards to the meat - never buy anything from there that isn't marked prime. The economy stuff is bloody awful. Though from time to time they do specials on the prime sirloin or scotch and it is pretty decent.

All in all - spud shed would save me upwards of $75 a week i reckon.

      • I have no doubt on the savings verse Coles or Woolies and completely agree that there are massive savings to be made. But I am a Farmer Jacks fanboy who might need to step outa the box!

      • This is probably the most accurate description of Spudshed quality I've seen - also quality of stock seems to vary from store to store, the Wangara one tends to be significantly worse then the Innaloo or Jandakot ones, and the Wangara store is downright in poor shape too.

With meat, Basics like chicken breasts (when they're on special, normally they're the same price as Coles at Spudshed but occasionally get down to $7/kg) I've found to be identical to any other store or butcher, and you're spot on with the prime scotch. The bulk beef always looks really dire though in comparison to bulk beef in other supermarkets.

Fruit and Veg if you have common sense and enough time to pick through the stock the quality is equal to or better then the Duopoly IMO.

Wouldn't surprise me if the rent is gratis considering how much of a failure Coventry Square has been.

    • Current $5.99/kg split chickens are a good deal.

Did one on the Weber last night, then immediately hopped back in the car and down to Innaloo to grab another 4 for the freezer.

going by my experience of Spud Shed's Innaloo opening, i think i'll be avoiding all of Morley on Thursday. thanks for the heads up :p

  • btw for anyone wondering… it's $2 for a 4 Kg bag of Potatoes (ordinary price)

unless these potatoes are made out of gold, i would pass on the hours waiting in line

good deal though for those who want it free, you can't beat free.

    • Get out, right now.

  • Growing too many that he needs to sell them eh Tony?!?!

  • Any other opening specials? Innaloo had heaps of opening specials on all sorts of things during their first week. Might have to pop in to Morley to have a look.
