Just received an email from Ticketek advertising $800 off this TV for the next few days. I don't know much about the TV and couldn't really find much when I quickly googled but thought someone here might be interested. Should also be able to get an extra 2.4% from Cashrewards.

I daresay that after the KD55X8500C for $1500 the other day, I'd be gunshy about going for this particular set…

I bought this screen maybe 6 weeks ago (for something like $1450, Sony online special).

I'm using it as a PC monitor, and am mostly pretty happy with it.

My one complaint: crashes! Sometimes I'll be working, screen goes black, and next thing the TV's rebooting into Android. I've had about 8 crashes in the time I've had it (and some firmware revisions have been much better than others). This isn't while doing anything 'Smart', just displaying HDMI1 from my PC.

    • does it do hdmi 2.0 or displayport and 4:4:4?

      • +1

It does HDMI 2.0 (there was a firmware update for it. Necessary for 3840x2160 @ 60Hz, which is what I'm running).

I'm not sure about 4:4:4 - IIRC it only does 4:4:2, but check over on the Whirlpool Sony 2015 TV thread if you want to be sure.

        • Hi,
So you are absolutely sure the KD49X8000C can display 60hz/60fps?
The reason I ask is that its specs say MotionFlow XR 200 which seems to be Sonys version of 50hz.
I'm interesting in playing games on it too but am not too knowledgable about these things.

I picked up the KDL43W800C (43", non-4K) a couple of weeks ago, and it had similar problems, bit better on the current firmware. From poking around online, it seems like all the 2015 Sony Android TVs have random crashes and glitches.

    • What is your graphic card? Underpowered graphic card could poor 4K if you have other outputs going on as well.

      • GTX970, and I'm only using the one output.

Mostly for games I drop it down to 1080p.

Pretty sure it's just general instability in the Android TVs from Sony, as cjmac said above.

    • so what your saying is your smart TV isn't very smart? if your leaving your screen with out use maybe the HDMI is timing out and not refreshing?

    • @encoderboy r u sure u didn't buy the x8300c which is actually better than this one id say

That was the one with the long weekend deal???? I got it as well

I just checked cause was almost spewing when I saw 1199 but its a different TV

The x8300c has motion flow 800

Fuuuuuu I just bought the KDL50W800C for $1199 from The Good Guys a few hours ago. Did I do bad?

    • Ouch… possibly… From a quick look at the specs, aside from the obvious FHD vs UHD difference, the one you bought is edge-lit while this one is back-lit. The latter of which can produce clearer and better images on screen.

    • Yep, you dun goof'd.

    • Return it for some reason you can find

  • Don't all LCD's have LED backlighting these days?

    • +1

Some are Edge-lit LEDs in which the LEDs are formed around the rim of the screen, using a special diffusion panel to spread the light evenly behind the screen

LED backlighting (Full array)- behind the screen, whose brightness is not controlled individually

Don't think there's any CCFL LCDs on the market anymore.

  • I'm really hoping they do a good deal on some of their 1080P models soon.

  • What's the refresh rate on this?

  • Rewards are not payable on the following models:
    KDL32W700C
    KDL40W700C
    KD65X9300C
    KD75X9400C.

    • +1

This is not for any of those models?
