Will it play CoDBO III, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V?

    • +4

I have no idea i'm not a gamer - just sharing the better price for all :)

    • +3

      No, just minesweeper.

    • Yes, but very poorly, and not at 1080p. It has integrated Iris 6200 graphics, which makes it roughly equivalent to a Nvidia GTX750.

      • It's not even close to a gtx 750, maybe gt 750m?

        • Here's my source: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i7-5775c-i5-5…

I may have read it wrong, but it seems to be a bit slower than the GTX 750 during the gaming benchmarks of GTA 5, which should be a reasonable indicator of performance in other modern 3D games.

        • @klaw81:
I guess benchmark at a resolution of 1280*720 is not a very fair comparison. it's like racing two car at a maximum speed of 50km/h.

  • +2

why would u buy imac for gaming purpose ? it is like u were buying a ps4 hoping to play HALO series

    • +13

You would think a $2000 computer would be able to do something… ugggh

Mega facebook browser it is then

      • +2

The imacs are great for content creation, ps4 xbox is only content consumption.

        • +14

Not this one. This is a low-end model with integrated graphics and mechanical hard drive. It doesn't have any of the high-end bits that make the expensive iMacs worthwhile. A small, non-Retina screen, no Fusion drive, no discrete graphics. This machine would barely cope with the rigors of photo editing, let alone video edits or other genuine "content creation" tasks.

This is a (rather overpriced) blogging and Facebook machine. Which is fine if that's what you're looking for, you have cash to burn, you value aesthetics over function, and refuse to consider anything other than Apple.

        • +2

  • Magic Mouse 2 (can charge with lightening cable which is included)
cant charge it and use it though.
    apple and their dumb design.

  • +3

That hard drive is sooooo bad, it runs at 5400rpm. You really have to spend the extra and upgrade to a Fusion drive.

    • +15

Came here to say this.. almost 2016 and they're still shipping $1800 computers with 5400rpm drives. Shameful really.

      • -7

5400 rpm is for power saving….. what is called a green drive. Has ram for speed

        • +1

This isn't correct, the harddrive stores the data which is then loaded into memory. For example most games don't load everything into memory due to size limitations so they need to be constantly reading to the harddrive.

        • +1

Power saving on a desktop? Didn't know that's one of the most important features.
Nowadays we use SSD for power saving and not outdated laptop hard drives.

      • Bad Apple.

  • +16

21.5 inch display, 5400rpm HDD… Only Apple can sell this horror configuration and make the buyer feel he purchased something good.

  • +5

8GB of memory, no SSD and a 21.5" screen? I didn't realise how horribly priced these were.

  • +10

Okay peeps… I need to call it here and now.
I have recently stopped posting on OzBargain as I seem to get flack like the above over and over on my Apple posts. I'm posting for those who are looking to buy such products - its not a forum to rant back and fro around PC vs. Apple or Apple vs. Android. Personally I'm not a ran of PC laptops or Android devices myself so I dont even look at such posts let alone comment some random crap. Maybe I just continue to use Ozbargain to cash in on what others have found as opposed to share what I've found.
The Ozbargain community has definitely changed recently

Its ok same people woulk knock ferrari because there is no tow bar or cup holder.

      • +3

        There's no cup holder???

      • The BMW M3 CSL had a boot floor made of cardboard

    • +5

Unfortunately, you are correct. People tend to rate deals not just based on the price listed vs price everywhere else, but also based on the perceived value. I am one of them :(

Technically you have posted a good deal since the price you found is less than the one that Apple sells this iMac for. And thank you for that.

The problem with this particular iMac is that it was initially terribly priced by Apple. Even for $1800 it is not worth it. It does not have retina screen or an SSD or anything that could justify its price.
I am a Mac user myself and I know why I paid extra for the Macs that I own compared to PC alternatives. However, with this one it is really hard to justify the price…

It is also hard from a moral point of view to upvote something that is still way overpriced even at a discounted price.

    • +2

I suspect it's mostly a difference of opinion over what constitutes a "bargain."

Your view of a bargain is (apparently) "here's a specific product that you can get for a small discount on normal price" - which is a perfectly legitimate view. Other people view a bargain as "here's the cheapest way to purchase a generic item with certain level of performance, or perform a certain function" - which is also a legitimate view.

If you're in the former camp and already want that specific product, then your post will help somebody get that product for a lower price. In that context, this post and others like it have plenty of merit, and deserve to be posted.

People in the latter camp are always going to trash Apple posts, because Apple products are generally expensive relative to other brands, and similar performance and/or functionality are going to be available cheaper elsewhere.

Feel free to keep making these posts, because they will continue to cater for those in the former camp. You'll just have to ignore those who have a different idea of what a bargain is.

(edit - brightaussie above said it better than me, and in fewer words. It's all about perceived value. But I also agree that this particular model is not very good value, even at the reduced price. This is the poverty pack model, and it should be cheaper)

    • +4

ezza mate, the flak is aimed at apple, not you. It seems everyone who complains about the ozbargain community going downhill and the negative voting system being flawed share the same issue: They think every neg vote and every negative comment is an insult to them, and an attack on their character and integrity. Suck it up and stop taking it so damn personally. I would rather see the unbiased facts of what specs this apple products have and what it can and can't do, rather than just know that this is x dollars off the usual price. The comments give potential buyers more background info on whether they should or should not buy the product, and i for one very much welcome critical and negative feedback, so that if I was an uninformed buyer looking for a facebook machine i wouldnt be wowed by a post like this showing x hundred dollars off a shiny new mac, and instead would learn i could get similar functionality at half the price elsewhere.

At the end of the day, the ratio of positive to negative votes on the deal will tell people if its a good deal in terms of price. If there are no negatives and more than 10 positives then you know its a good deal based on price and click into it. Then you view the comments to see if its a good deal based on community perceived value. Everyone who gets upset over this system seems to be missing the point of how ozbargain works…

      • +2

Good post Riczter, and well said.

There's nothing much wrong with the OzBargain community; aside from a few obvious trolls, it's working exactly as it should. Deals are discussed, the pros and cons of the product under discussion are revealed by those with genuine knowledge, and it quickly becomes pretty obvious who's just trash-talking out of brand loyalty or their own misguided crusade.

I personally think this particular post deserves a negative vote because it's such poor value for money, but I've refrained since it's genuinely the cheapest price around for this product, it belongs here where others who are interested in such products can see it.

I suspect that Ezza is taking it rather personally because he's already bought this deal, and is not happy with the number of people who are honestly and objectively saying that it's not a very good product for the high price.

    • I just don't get it. People chose to buy mazdas over daewoo's. They choose to buy country road over Kmart home brand clothes. Why can't they choose an apple computer over a pc

There are plenty of benefits to owning the Mazda, country road and apple gear.

      • Definitely, if this config had a 256GB or 512GB SSD instead of a HDD it would get my plus vote. But this one is an overpriced model with an outdated config. A lot of apple products are horribly overpriced, but there have been times that they have been very reasonable value, especially when you take into account the positives of owning a mac. Build quality, customer service and ease of warranty, ease of use for the OS, not wanting to kill yourself fifty times a day coz windows OS gives me the shits, etc. But different people put a different perceived value on these things. Some people think its worth a $500 price premium, some people think its worth no price premium. I think that is essentially where the difference in opinion comes from.

Personally I put the Apple Experience at around $200 value for myself, so would be interested in an apple product if it was less than $200 more expensive than the equivalent windows product.. But thats just me. Everyone is different, a lot of people have never even used apple or taken advantage of their services so are ignorant and can't offer a valid opinion. But a lot of these people still do comment. This is the part that is unconstructive to the ozbargain community.

      • +2

This genuinely isn't about PC vs Apple - it least, not for some people.

This particular machine is quite expensive and has really poor specs. Even if you're a massive fan of all things Apple, you'd have to admit that this particular model, with combination of a rubbish screen, low-end processor and slow hard drive, is very poor value at $1700, let alone the $2000 it normally retails for.

The ONLY reason you'd buy this is if you refused to consider any non-Apple alternatives, and couldn't afford the more expensive models. But even then, the Mac Mini is probably a better choice.

      • Daewoo don't exist anymore and it is good to see you saying Mazda rather than BMW LOL.

  • If anything should had purchased this a couple weeks back when the prices weren't increased by Apple. Would have saved yourself an extra $200 at least.

    • It was $1799 prior to the increase..
Its now cheaper with the OW price match

  • -8

Anyone that's thinking of buying one of these you really should consider going to a PC parts dealer and building your own. For almost the same price ($50 more) you can get a desktop that is actually worth some coin. This one has double the ram, twice the storage (and an SSD), and double the gaming capabilities. A desktop will have a longer shelf life due to increased ventilation and you can actually upgrade it over the years.

    Disclaimers:
    - Yes I know it won't run OS X and it's not an "all in one" unit
    - Was a really rough build, less than 5 minutes. Lots better optimisations are to be had with proper planning.

    • +13

For those who want an iMac, this is a bargain.
For everyone else, there's everything else.

      • +1

Yes I agree, it's a cheap iMac but it's not good value.

    • +7

I negged you because there is no need for bad language, and no-one is trying to convince you to do anything :)

    • Yes but it's not a Mac - which is what some
      People want.

  • +8

Good lord. There are plenty of other places on the internet to debate PC v Mac.

I agree it's not good value to some (myself included) but it provides good value to others. People will value different things. Some value raw specs. Some people want to create content. Some people want to play games. Some people want cross-compatibility with co-workers. Some people value aesthetics, a particular eco-system or resale value. Some people just want want they want because that's just what they want.

    • +3

Cue SOOOO tell me what you want what you really really want…

      • Ah crap. This song is now stuck in my head.

  • -5

OMG that's 200 off!! Thanks OP! That's really cheap!

  • U can see how many APPLE haters in Ozbargain.

Makes me wonder if they post like this when Apple is having 50% discounts…

    • +1

but the most I've seen is 30% discount on an apple product ………… ever.
apart from the regular deals on iTunes cards, which do get regularly up-voted.

    • +2

Most of the comments here are well constructed responses for alternatives for people who might be looking for a new computer. It just so happens that this particular product is an over-priced product, even with its discount, and so it seems natural for people to explain other alternatives. I find that significantly more useful than buying a product just because it has a lower price than it normally does. Aside from a few comments, I don't see anyone here actively hating on Apple just because it's Apple.

  • +1

The negative stuff in the comments really needs to stop, or people will be reluctant to post deals like this in future.

I am not a mac person, a pc is better value to me. But this is a deal for an iMac. If you can find one cheaper now, then post it for the people who do like macs.

Just because a deal doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean it shouldn't appeal to anyone.

The only thing I will say that should be pointed out to someone thinking of buying this, the 16gb configurable ram is a CTO build. You will never be able to upgrade the ram of an 8gb model to 16gb after purchase. (ram is soldered to logic board)

    • +2

nope, disagree, there's no way to tell if a product is a good deal or not if there are no negative comments. The value of ozbargain is to help buyers make INFORMED choices on bargains before they purchase. If there are no negative comments, you cant make an informed decision and ozbargain just becomes a generic useless sales site with no info on whether anything is actually good VALUE.

      • +4

This, this, this. Cannot agree more.
People misconstrue a differing opinion as "negativity". It's the complete contrary: a different opinion is the most useful thing a person can hear. It gives you a greater, more informed perspective on a particular topic.

  • +6

This isn't about PC vs Apple… this machine just has horrendous specification.

It really is just a Facebook machine and something to watch cat videos only. That isn't a joke.

I understand "Apple loyalty", and to those buyers I would suggest a second hand MacPro. Even a 10year old one has about the same specs. And arguably looks better. Aluminium instead of plastic. Cost is about $300. Has genuine retro cool too.

You can also afford the "trash can" model too for $1800. The trash can is much cooler.

You might get a few superficial social media likes saying you torched spent $1800 with this deal, but even most Apple people will know you went cheap.

You are better off buying a $1800 selfie stick, or $1800 worth of Gaytime, if you want attention.

  • I have a macs and pcs. They are optimum for diffeeent things.

Im still using my first imac with the core2 duo. OSX always upgrades fine as do the included apps.

Also have i5 with windows 10.

    Im impartial

    • I recently sold an imac with a Core2 Duo - it wasn't in anyway a good computer by now. It performed the same as my father's Dell from the same era. The silicon wear's just the same as any other computer - it's all made by Intel.

  • Put it this way. I have to change a laptop pc windows every 3 years. And within 3 years i did loads of upgrades except cpu and motherboard. Now once changed to Apple macs, only upgrade ever did was hdd to ssd and for 5 years is still running smooth as hell.

    • Fact is people who love pc's either love to tinker with them or haven't used a Mac.

A Mac is mostly for those who want a computer that works with a mostly streamlined experience and so many are willing to pay a premium for that.
