  • change the main link coming up as this:

"The page you were after lived a good and happy life, but now it is no longer with us. That's ok though, because we have thousands more that are alive and just as great."

Windows 10 upgrade is free even for non genuine windows.

    • :) this is correct.. its MS's way of fighting android and iOS.. give the pirates a free copy of windows 10 (legitifying their pirated copy of windows) and make money from them via apps

      • I read before while upgrade to 10 is possible they will deactivate within a certain timeframe if they detect its fake?

M$ is definitely not giving you a free Win 10 upgrade if you're not a genuine Windows license holder. The upgrade can still occur, but it will not be activated.

Some people report that they are getting it for free but it's likely they may have actually modified their pre-Windows 10 operating system in some way to actually bypass windows activation, or have actually used a genuine keycode to activate (but not neccessarily have obtained the product key through legal means).

It doesn't legitify, you only get a free unlicenced copy of Windows 10.

  • i guess this is handy for anyone wanting a legit key for windows 7… 8 looks to be "sold out" or page deleted due to being sold out

I guess the question is, can you get this Win 8 key from JB and just plain install Windows 10 without going through the upgrade 8 process to make the key recognised under Windows 10?

At least they are now letting you re-install Windows with your old key.

Yes, this was part of the latest update released a few days ago.

      • Then technically, doesn't that mean it's no longer tied to your hardware? If you nuke your old PC (or rather, never connect it to the internet again) then install a new one, you're all good?

        • In past experience if I've had to reinstall Windows/ upgrade significant parts of hardware e.g. CPU/motherboard, I just call Microsoft during the activation process if it says I've passed the activation limit and they fix it up over the phone for me.

        • @IceCreamBandit: Yeah I know of a way of using Windows 7 OEM keys basically indefinitely, dunno if it'll work under 10 tho

      • The JB keys listed are upgrade keys, are you sure upgrade keys will work, same as normal keys?

        • I can't say for certain, but the Windows 7 Home Premium 3 Pack that I bought years ago had the same "Upgrade" graphic on the box, and I've done many clean installs without any issues.

  • So you cannot do a fresh install to Windows 10 using these upgrade edition's without having a full licensed key already?

Perhaps I'm missing something but don't see the point in these unless your running Vista?

    • Yes you can, legally.
