      Hi
It is an Ad. I am advertising that this sale is on. I am the store representative for MLN and my user name is MLN. I am also the user who posted this article.

MLN always have an abundance of good bargains for us here — cut him a break.

          • +2

@pais: They do have bargains but these have been on 'sale' at similar prices for some time. Shave another 20% off those prices and I'd call that a real 'bargain'.

            • +1

@shawn_low: As a business, I'm sure they'd like to wait just a little bit longer before they start throwing away money. Back to reality..

              • +1

@pais: These are last gen machines. On vista…with no chance of a win7 upgrade.

MLN has had some great deals…like the Asus S101…but this Is strictly an ad floggng stuff that has been on sale for weeks now.

Don't know about you but a 'bargain' is something better than previously posted deals!

                • -1

So? That doesn't mean you throw away the technology just because you want them to. Get a grip.

Absolutely all of these have been posted in the past weeks??

Acer 4230-161G16MN original RRP was $699 now $392
Has dropped 30$ since last being posted (a couple of weeks ago).

Don't know about you but I can't find the rest previously posted! If you can, be sure to enlighten the rest of us simple folk.

          • @pais: sure as long as it is not an ad - here is an example for the same company:

  • How to get it upgraded to win 7?

    • +1

If you do not have a copy of Win 7 or a license, you will need to buy the windows 7 upgrade.
Some customers have advised me that they still have been able to claim Win 7 for free plus postage on some of these notebooks, I do not know how they have done this and I have not tried. MLN does not warrant, promise or gaurantee that you can make a free claim for win 7 on these advertised machines.

Windows 7 Home premium OEM-MLK license is available for $129 at MLN,
the Upgrade kit with cd is $167
or you can choose to use Vista or XP at no extra cost as it may not make much economic sense to buy windows 7 on some of the cheaper machines.
A lot of customers are still using Vista or windows XP and are happy to do so. Most customers who are using windows 7 are also very happy.
      Every users requirements are different.

      • if it was me, I'd probably ask the customers how they did it :P

          • @tonyjzx: well, I just figured if you've already got a customer telling you they got the upgrade, it's pretty easy to say "How?", especially as I'd assume these would be regular customers (I mean, how many 1 off purchasers call the shop they purchased from just to say "I totally got the upgrade, ok, bye") :D

          • @tonyjzx: Jesus — got out of the wrong side of the bed, mate? You could always get out of your arm chair and off the internet and do the same if it's such a big deal.

            • @pais: I'm assuming this comment is directed at tonyjzx - 'cause I totally had a smiley face at the end of my comment, meaning I'm all happy and stuff :P

If you are a student you can get a Win 7 Pro upgrade for $50 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/itsnotcheating/de…

  • -5

yeah you'd be stupid to buy a vista laptop without a free upgrade to w7

    • +4

That's a bit harsh, I'm sure Vista is still a capable OS for everyday tasks.

      • -2

Nope, Vista is the biggest disgrace to come out of Microsoft since Windows ME.

Nobody should be using this OS, it is complete rubbish.

If you must insist on getting it, make sure you get 2 gig ram at the minimum, and that is just to run the OS.

Only Microsoft get away with make each and every OS even more bloated and memory hungry than the last.

And you may not be able to get XP or 7 on these laptops. Their might only be drivers available for Vista, so be careful.

That is why they are so cheap.

        • Windows 7 is still heavily based on Vista — as such, most Vista drivers will work fine with 7.

May I ask why you dislike Vista? Or do you think it's just fun to hate on MS?

          • -1

@pais: It's well known that Windows Vista (and Windows ME) are steaming piles of … software.

            • @WaywardOne: Yes — that's the general consensus among people who've just read it somewhere else; "It sucks — I can't tell you why cuz everyone knows it!" Hmm!

          • +2

@pais: I agree with Pais here. Vista is good Windows OS. While Windows 7 is more refined and does fix some minor issues, I'd still say Vista is not garbage the some other zealots are proclaiming.

    • I understand your point but its a good deal if you are a student who can get Windows 7 for $50 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (server equivalent to Windows 7 but suitable for desktop use) for free.

    • tonyjzx,
Free upgrade is over which is why sales are on. Add 165$ for windows 7 home premium upgrade (office works price) by yourself and see if this is still bargain and decide yourself.

  • -2

    vista is yesterdays news

this is 2010… if i'm spending several hundred dollars on a laptop, i expect windows 7

why would this not be normal?

    • +9

Having used both systems — meh. It's not really much to have a whinge about.

      • +6

Agree totally. Win7 is basically a pimped vista anyway.. not sure what all the fuss is about. Had win7 on my home system and downgraded to xp which is still imo the best. Too many memory resident programs in vista/win7.. i need to use ~50 megs of ram to "display a desktop" in win7? (dwm.exe). Oh and new to win7 too u have to use another 10-20 megs of ram permanently to `have sound'. Vista had this too but could be disabled no way to disable in win7.

        • Well I'm glad my system has more than 128megs of RAM :s

        • I do feel that Win 7 is ALOT less buggier and more responsive than Vista ever was though. 50mb to display desktop…. Why are you whinging about that? haha most internet browsers nowadays take 50-100mb just to render a web page…..

RAM isn't expensive anymore, if we were back in the 1990s then i would definably complain about a program using 50mb…. We are now in the 2010s.

I remember back in the days when laptops would cost $5000…

          • +1

            @lplau:

Why are you whinging about that? haha most internet browsers nowadays take 50-100mb just to render a web page…..

Exactly my point, it all adds up. 100 meg for this, 100 meg for that.. If you've got resources to burn maybe its ok, im just stating win7 is a resource hog that's all. Many laptops running win7 have more RAM than their 32-bit OS can utilise anyway..

            • -1

@Iggsy81: only on whirlpool would you see people touting the 'benefits' of vista

              gimme a break… this isn't 2006

              • @tonyjzx: give vista a break, it was groundbreaking when first released just that it had a few… ok a lot of bugs because it was NEW tech, same thing happened with xp so i dont see y the whinge.

                • -1

@Trance N Dance: IT wasn't ground breaking, it was computer breaking. It was and still is a joke.

          • @lplau: yeah i find my comp to shut down more than twice as fast, boot up is a different story, only a few seconds for me….

but idle, win 7 uses around 1gb on idle with nothing running, and around 1.3-1.5gb with itunes, and ff with 30+ tabs running

          • @lplau: Whilst I see what you're trying to see - the point isn't and never has been about the cost of RAM. Developers now have little to no incentive to write efficient code because the rest is made up by the overzealous purchases of their clientele. Hardware compensates for their slack (this is not good from a consumer perspective).

            • @pais: Your obviously not a developer. There is almost always a trade off between memory and performance. Perhaps the reason the window manager for example uses 50mb is because:
              1) it allocates once and then pools that memory for better cache performance and less dynamic allocation
              2) it caches the rendering and the blurred rendering of windows and the final composition of the screen so it can just render what has changed
              etc..

              • @weesals: I'm making a generalized statement, not isolated to just Windows or this particular issue up there ^

        • Little of the trrack. I am loosing sound on my laptop after wakeup from standby mod. what is the fix? Thanks

  • +2

I think the Lenovo on offer there represents very good value for money so a positive from me.

    • +1

It's okay I guess.. but probably something new is coming out in the comp world like usb 3.0, hence selling out all the old stock? =\

      • +1

There's always something new coming out.

        • In regards to both users, it's true something new and generally better is being developed but if you have to go for a notebook at this time, then the Lenovo would represent great value for money. When a new notebook comes out in the market, quite often it's fairly expensive. In some cases cashbacks and redemptions kick in, but inevitably, prices will slowly drop and the cycle will begin again.

          Happy shopping :)

    • It is not a thinkpad, so not really.

  • +11

Wow, some people got out of the wrong side of bed this morning.

  • +2

Give the poster a break. If this wasn't posted, I think a few people won't know it existed.

    • +2

Exactly — Contrary to popular disinformation, a vast majority of these haven't been posted before.

      OzBargain is slowly becoming whinger-central.

  • Any HP or compaq or dell machines? Was told to stay away from Acer or ASUS.

    • I was told to stay away from dell..

      • -3

Stay away from Dell, HP for sure. they make the worst rubbish ever, especially if you go for their cheapest machines.

Stick to Thinkpads or Macs, sure they cost more, but they are worth it. Or maybe you eat at Maccas for every meal, so you don't appreciate quality.

    • +4

Giving a neg because the description is too long? I don't know about you, but I prefer to know details of a deal rather than having to click through to a website to find out what they've got going on - props for good descriptions - we need to see them more often

    • +4

I understand your view but I ask you to consider this. If something is a bargain or represents good value, does it matter who posts the deal, whether they be a consumer, or the retailer themselves?

I'm not against retailers posting deals, sure it can be seen as an advertisement, but if it's a valid bargain and people can benefit from it, then I see no problem from it.

      Peace yo :)

EDIT: I won't neg your comment but I feel a great description of the products on sale/offer can only be a good thing.

  • what do you guys think of the HP tablet? worth paying $899 for?

  • How do you search for a 17" laptop on that site?

  • guys chill out

  • +2

Can someone call the mods in. I know it's a Sunday but jeez a few people need to sit in the time out corner.

Quite simply put, if you have no genuine enquiry or nothing interesting to add, perhaps it's best not to add anything at all.

  • Would have been good to see some large screened machines with fast processors.

For those who are wondering, so many cheap runout laptops at the moment because of both Vista and Core I7.

  • good deal, picked this up for my mum, perfect for her:
