    hmmm

  • Hang on tony
    its a h243hx not a x243hq
this monitor has dvi, hdmi and vga inputs, speakers, 2ms response and a piano black finish
it craps all over the x243hq

  • cheapest on staticice is 240 at MSY, i think the free delivery and not standing in a queue for half an hour adds to the 10 saving

  • Free delivery, no CC surcharge, PayPal, 1 year RTB replacement wty (in addition to standard 3 yrs). +1

  • City Software www.citysoftware.com.au have the Acer X243HQ for $247 + delivery, which works out at $262 to me in NSW 2010 as an example. After $49 cashback that's $213. The contrast ration isn't as good as the h243hx and it doesn't have speakers, but I suspect lots of people prefer separate speakers anyhow.

scrub that - just checked staticice and www.onlinecomputer.com.au have the same X243HQ for $180 after cashback - not sure on delivery though

        Its not same.

        onlinecomputer has X243HQ

        9289 has H243HX

        • I said it's not the same - I was giving a comparison

  • i had both the HQ and HX. HX is lot better then HQ in terms of looks and the screen it self. but both monitors stuffed up with in 2month. my HQ had deadpixels so i had it returned then i purchased HX right after. 2weeks later a thick black line turn up on the side of my screen…Acer will only replace it with a refurbished unit.

      OK you technical ppl.

The Dell one is 23" (I think, is that correct?) It reads pretty well, though which is the better deal? The OP's deal or this one?

i am looking for a 24" monitor, and was looking at a Benq G2420HD. 9289 were selling them last year for $200.00 delivered, though that deal is goooorrrrn.

Which monitor from the 3 x above to you recommend?

      Any input appreciated. Regards, Z

      • I have the Dell and the X243HQ. I'd go with Dell, as the quality is much better, love the colours especially. And I believe many others with the same experience will agree with me.

Having extensively used both the G2420HD and SP2309W I feel I can offer a reasonable opinion. Firstly, I own the G2420HD and purchased it last year when it was $200 delivered from 9289. I use the SP2309W at work.

The G2420HD for the price was an absolute steal. No doubt about it. A proper 24" diagonal screen with HDMI inputs for $200 delivered is fantastic. However, it does suffer from considerable motion judder. Colours when tweaked look very bright and vivid. There is a little backlight bleeding but not the worst I have seen. Warranty is 3 years but dead-pixel is only 14 days.

The SP2309W is only 23" diagonal which is not an upgrade from 22" 16:10 However, it does have a fantastic glossy screen with excellent colour reproduction. I did not notice any motion judder with it and found the design to be very nice too. It also has HDMI but includes 4 USB ports and has a slightly higher resolution than the 24" BenQ - not much, but still there. Additionally, webcam with stereo microphones is a nice touch.

The lowest I have seen it is around $230. For an impulse buy the BenQ is much better. If you're upgrading from a 17" CRT/LCD or even a 19" LCD, you would probably enjoy the quality of the Dell. They're roughly the same price when you factor in shipping. If you value things like USB hub and webcam, grab the Dell. If you just want a big screen with still very reasonable picture quality, go for the BenQ, you won't be disappointed. If you prefer quality and features over the size, go for the Dell, it's an excellent monitor.

Hope this helps, they're both very similar monitors but you just have to evaluate what your priorities are with the monitor and choose one, you won't be disappointed with either.

        • Thanks very much for the in depth overview. Greatly appreciated.

You paint a very good picture of both. It's a toss-up as to which on isn't it? I am upgrading from a 19" LCD.

Dell, with the quality and warranty, though smaller screen, or the Benq which is slightly bigger, and still with a a reasonable picture quality.

Thanks again for sharing the info……. I will have to flip a coin I think!

          regards, Z.

          • @zonbie: This Whirlpool thread seems to suggest that the Acer H243HX is actually better than the BenQ G2420HD: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/134…. The comments in that thread about the Acer being 23.6" are clearly wrong because they have confused it with the X243HQ (as have people in this thread).

For me I was really considering getting this Acer for its price and features but now I'm not sure if the Dell SP2309W is actually a better alternative.

I'm thinking that my graphics card won't be able to keep up with the larger 2048 x 1152 resolution of the Dell, and the conventional 1920 x 1080 is really very adequate.

I also had a look at these reviews:
            http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/dell-sp2309w/4505-3174_…
            http://www.digitalversus.com/article-357-7266-38.html

I think they both have a 3 year warranty?

            • @inherentchoice: i would stick with the dell for piece of mind. its got adjustable height/tilt stand and it would definitely be more reliable then the Acer. the mic and Cam on my Acer is broken too rang up support and they just said its a Win7 issue? wtf. just do a search on google there is so many reliability issues with this screen.

          • @zonbie: Cyssero pretty much covered everything. Just wanted to add that I too bought the G2420HD last year for $200, and last week I received the SP2309W for $230.

As an all-round monitor to spend extended periods of time on or open multi-windows, I actually prefer the G2420HD with Windows7 (so I can use the drag and drop window auto-resizer). The benq is one solid monitor that's exactly what you hope - great picture quality, perfect size, sleek and simple. Wonderful for multitasking.

When I received the SP2309W I was absolutely blown away by the colour reproduction and clarity. It's so vivid and shiny I just want to lick the screen sometimes. It looks absolutely superb playing things like CGI-movies or anime. However the glossy screen did startle me a bit when I first saw it- even when it's on you can sometimes see your own reflection on darker colours, which might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Currently the SP2309W has received more time near the living room as a mini home-theater unit. For playing the PS3, showing videos and photos to visitors, video chat or viewing/showing-off anything 'pretty' I've been plugging the SP2309W in over the benq. Which is strange since the G2420HD is the one with full HD.

Also the Dell's viewing angles > Benq's viewing angles. I sometimes slouch at the desk / sit at an angle and the BenQ looks dark. Not as bad with the Dell. But really, I should just learn to sit upright.

Both are fantastic monitors and I love both equally. I don't think anyone could be disappointed with either!

        • Hi cyssero,

I'm interested in the 23" dell, I currently own AOC 22" monitor. Would I notice any size difference if I upgrade from 22 to 23? :)

          • @[Deactivated]: Sadly no, there would be no discernible size difference (it's about 2mm wider I think). I'm assuming your AOC 22" is 16:10 ratio (it should have a sticker saying so - I used to have a 22" AOC).

In your case the Acer would be a better monitor because it is actually bigger. The new ratio means monitors are only getting wider and not much taller. Unless you just want a wider screen with no height benefit buy the Acer and skip the Dell.

EDIT: Have a look here - http://www.displaywars.com/23-inch-16x9-vs-22-inch-16x10 the 23" 16:9 is actually smaller than your 22" height wise.

            • @cyssero: thanks cyessro. What a shame, it's a nice monitor :(

    • Thnks jonni for the link.

    • Thanks for this. I've owned 3 different Dell 24" monitors. This one sounds like a good deal. I'm very tempted..

    • exactly what i was looking for. thanks jonii

  • +1

HQ is 23.6" while HX is 24". jonii that dell looks like a better deal then the acer.

    its not cheap…

  • Purchased 1 about a week ago
Turned it on, the touch buttons weren't responsive and one of the buttons didnt even work, awaiting instructions to send back for replacement…

    • I have the same monitor and my buttons are also pretty unresponsive,I thought that's just how it was. How did you go with replacement?

      • Gave Acer a ring, they gave me a repair reference number. Now sending it in, was told to expect 5-10 business days on repairs…So just got to sit and wait now.

        • only 5-10 days? that's pretty good

  • +1

Acer is the Hyundai of the pc world and Samsung are the Mazda

Just better all around but you pay extra! If your buying a Monitor in 2010 try and make it an LED backlit one! there are plenty of 24+ LED monitors going around :)

  • Seems to be sold out, it is no longer appearing in searches

  • -1

    umm crap price

    • Best price on SI by $10 and it has free shipping, no CC surcharge, I'd like to know why you think it's a crap price.

    • Rubbish.

    • says the Dell fanboi JasonF :P

  • anyone know any other good 24" monitor deals, with integrated speakers as my desk space is limited?
