    • +2

+1….what he/she said. I'll be all over this if it was 64GB, but still good deal nonetheless.

    • -7

      just buy 2

      • Nah, no more 32gbs. Got 4x 32s already. If I am replacing them, its going to be 64 minimum, probably 128s.

  • +1

    got one, cheers

  • +2

Thanks but bugger. Just bought their ultra version yesterday. Well I guess it won't make any difference in my $60 Huawei phone. Then again, maybe it will! I better get it just in case.

  • +1

How about 50% off this or this or this or this
    128gb options!

  • +8

I'm not sure if my arse should get frenzied ???

  • Just what I needed :) Thanks OP.

  • +1

feel bad for those who got 32gb u1 for 20aud from jb hi-fi clearance
    anyway i wish theres 64gb u3 deal

    • +1

what about last week's ARSEXTREME for $17? >.>

      • come on 0.22aud difference isnt that much and they are at least the same card so i will left it off.
but consider the jb hi-fi one was just less than a day ago and slower speed
will make me feel like getting a punch in the balls
im still waiting for 64gb u3 deals
32gb seems for my action cam:(

  • +1

Tested under windows 7 using Lexar USB3 card reader…

Thank you for making the effort to share this.

    • Are random operations usually that much slower?

      • Yes.

      • +3

In the past I've noticed the slower the cards read/write speed, the higher the random rate/IOPS relative to the sequential performance and such cards are better suited to random data access such as android devices that will read/write to it in a non sequential fashion.

So to answer your question, yes, random operations are usually slower - I'm going to take a stab and say it probably has to do something with column and row storage bank selection or something related to that.. When you are accessing data sequentially you'll usually go to the next cell/block keeping the column unchanged. If you start reading/writing data randomly you are having to change the column/row which probably has some overheads involved hence the performance hit.

This guy compares various cards last year and you can see the fast cards get pretty low random rates in comparison:

  • Thanks TA - great price! ☺

  • +1

    good timing!
    thanks for that.
also why does the checkout page (once you bought it) say OZB enterprises?

  • +1

why can't i find where the coupon code goes? aaaaahhh

  • Do these have uses other than in fancy cameras? There are constantly deals and I understand they are handy for a phone or tablet, but does anyone really need more than, say, 3?

    • +3

Even a non fancy camera may potentially benefit from a faster card — if your taking multiple shots quickly a faster card will allow the camera to write to it faster (although if the camera interface is speed limit its not going to make a big difference).

If you have raspberry pi, a fast card can make a world of difference (when reading/writing randomly such as applying an update) compared to a slower card and finally, this card has a fast read rate, so even if your camera is not fancy, if you have a usb3 card reader, you can quickly offload the images/video from your card to your computer.

Perhaps another way to look at it is this way, you could get a much slower card and save only $2-3 and in 1-2 years time when you buy a new electronic device that uses an sdcard for storage regret getting a slower card to save a dollar or two (or in my case buying a 4 port SATA motherboard to save $40 and then regret the decision when you want to add a 5th sata device - but I digress).

      • Thank you! Great answer.

    • The SanDisk Ultra (80MB/s) cards have a really crap write speed. Less than 20MB/s, which is less than USB 2.0 speed.

      • Less than 20MB/s, which is less than USB 2.0 speed.

Approx ~15MB/s, I bought one to test against a much more expensive Sandisk Extreme Pro, using a very crude counting system, they're approximately half the write speed of Extreme Pro. Takes ~2 seconds to write 30MB.
If you aren't using these to shoot RAW/RAW+JPEG in a DSLR, they should be fine (in a phone, tablet, compact camera).
When you burst with 30MB/shot (RAW + Jpeg) and you want to review your images you WILL notice the writing time required by the memory card you're using. Can be frustrating.
If you want to use the Sandisk Ultra for a DSLR shooting JPEGs, that's fine but if you're shooting RAW, consider a faster card

  • Brought the 128gb ultra for 79.95 from here.
    www.wireless1.com.au/sandisk-ultra-microsdxc-uhs-i-128gb-sd-…

    • +2

      Why bring us this post?

      • Cheaper per gb

        • Which one is cheaper pr GB?
That Sandisk Ultra 128GB works out to be about $0.62 per GB.
This Sandisk Extreme 32GB works out to be about $0.53 per GB.

        • -1

          @edfoo:

Can I lock in B $0.53 per GB?

        • @g2420hd: Ding, ding, ding. That's correct.
Which is why aussie216618 posted that 128GB Ultra deal for, when it is more expensive per GB?

  • I know the ultra fit's get hot, but do microSD cards have any sort of heat issue? Not sure if I should be buying a microSD (larger capacity) for my Surface.
