Samsung EVO 64GB MicroSD $29 Delivered @ PC Byte

3400
samsarse

Remember this then this?. Well I think PC Byte was upset they couldn't get the 16GB cards yesterday, so they sourced another 1,000 units of 64GB at what I reckon is an incredible price (after some haggling from me lol). Cards do not come with SD adapters. Limited to 1 per person for fairness. Francesca will be around to take your questions. Good luck and have a great day :)

Thanks cornbeef! The other problem is if I have more than one card, I (may) keep losing it..

Actually that helps me more so, I'll wait for a 128GB deal! ;)

        • @Lukian: If you have a USB card reader + otg cable, you can sorta use it as a OTG USB storage for your phone and tablet.

        • @AznMitch: Ehhh, I watch videos on my laptop while travelling, but a giant bulky (comparatively) OTG cable is probably a good way to keep a tiny microSD card safe (and found).

        • @Lukian: I have something like this for OTG, with this for SD card reader. (just grabbed the first link that I could find for them) :) It's not that bulky in my opinion (especially if you plan to use an USB stick, it's almost comparable to that, though the SD Card Reader is slightly too wide and covers up space for other USB ports).

  • +1

    Great price first of all!
These are middle of the road in terms of performance, the SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC has double the read/write speeds but is of course 4x the price. Having said that, I had a Sandisk that was (I think) made in Korea and didn't think anything of it. I also had bad battery life on my S4 (at the time). I tried everything under the sun and found a post buried deep in a forum that mentioned something about the SD card quality affecting battery performance. So i bought myself the equivalent SD card but made sure it was one made in Japan and surprisingly, my battery life suddenly improved markedly. About an extra 6hrs a day

So my question is, does anyone know how these impact on battery life? If at all?

    • +2

Edit: just re read the comment. Interested in replies :)

    • +1

No way at all. And 6hrs??
      Something seriously fishy there.

These cards are rock solid, and amazing performers for phones. I flog the hell outta mine. Parents, sister & mrs have them, too.

      • +1

I experienced the same as you…had a 64gb in my old Xperia Z and it just heated up and battery life was horrible. The SD card died within a month-this was with a sandisk. I've heard many stories of issues with 64 gigabyte cards on some older phones. I was fine when I switched to a sandisk 32 however.

      • Nothing fishy, well not from my end, maybe San Disks end though.
I'm sure the Samsungs's probably are solid performers but you don't know what you don't know. What you say is rock solid may be even better with a better performing card! My under performing card was not a fake and just happened to be manufactured out of a different plant to the Japan ones and who would've thought that even though it's the same card made by the same company, there would be such a marked performance difference? If you have a look around you'll find quite a few people have ended up with the same problem and fixed it in exactly the same way.
Just curious, how do you flog the card? Are you constantly adding and removing files?
It turns out that the performance issues related to battery come about when just accessing files on the card, even small files.

Ill be waiting for a 128gb card deal thank you very much =)

Lol I love how you said that so innocently

        • thanks, lol

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one.
How long does it normally take for the order confirmation email to come through? I got the PayPal email but nothing from the seller as yet. I'm only concerned because the checkout page went a little screwy on me.

    • Hi Jangle,

      Confirmation email is instant.
I checked with my IT guy, we need to do another minor migration to resolve this issue, at the moment some orders might not get a confirmation email instantly.

Can you please PM me your details? I will arrange to email through a tax invoice =)

      Cheers
      Francesca

      • Thanks Francesca. Message sent. :)

      • I have had the same problem with no order confirmation email although i paid Via bank transfer rather than Paypal.

        • Hi Pnub,

Can you please PM me your details ?

        • @francesca2148: I sent an email to that address a few hours ago i can resend if you would like

        • @Pnub: Your email address ?
