Aussie Bodies HPLC Chocolate Bar 100g $2.54 (50% off) @ Woolworths

140

Aussie Bodies HPLC Chocolate Bar 100g are on sale for $2.54, down from the cheapest ever price last week of $3 at Coles. I'm not sure if the Chocolate Chip flavour is also $2.54.

The bars generally have a best before of about 10 months so definitely buy them. They also don't seem to melt in the hot weather so you can store it wherever.

This was mentioned in Trent's Woolies List but I missed it. Fortunately, Woolworths new rewards stalking system sent me an email suggesting me to buy them.

Unfortunately, I stocked up when they were $3. Buyer's regret.

A very good price for I think 45g of protein, HOWEVER there's something important here: the bar is not low carb persay, it's low 'carb absorbed by the body'. It has quite a bit of the -ol sugars (e.g. xylitol) which gives it a sweet taste, and can also give you gas!

TL;DR: if you want high protein with farts, go for this product.

    • Yup. Malitol is usually the culprit.

Also Coles sell Quest bars now, but they are about $4 each.

      • A lot of the protein from these bars is from milk solids and not from whey, that can also really get the gas going.

        • Ah, this explains a lot.

        • @thisplus: that goes for most of the protein in products you buy from the super market. I had one of those up and go energizes a few years back and some smells came out of me that were ungodly. Whereas I have proper whey protein all the time and not a whisper.

Ive been making my own protein (odd-shaped) bar.

    I use:

    150g protein powder
200g peanut (to make into peanut butter)
    150g of various nut
    1 spoon of honey
10mg of water (I put instant coffee to make expresso shot)

    optional stuff
    20-30g cacao nibs
    50g of cacao powder
    100g of eating chocolate chopped

    Now to make it!

200g peanut. put in a processor blitz into peanut nutter (I processed for about 10 min)
add honey and mix on low speed for 30 sec
add chocolate and nuts, quick pulse to break it up (not too fine if you want texture)

add all the powder and mix it up for 3 min.
add the water/coffee and mix for another 3 min.

The resulting mixture should not be runny. it should be still powdery and you can just compact them into bars. I make balls.

    • Nice work.

I made some logs using oats, whey protein powder, almond meal, dessicated coconut, cocoa powder, etc.
They were ok, but Quest bar wins over every time lol.

There is a lot of room to experiment. I used to add hydrated chia seeds, but they do not agree with me.

As it is, my recipe is a little low on taste. You can fix it up with more honey or adding dates.

The main thing is more peanut butter is better than less and not too much water.

IMPORTANT: refrigerate them to make them hold their shape. and they have much nicer texture. when warm, they feel mushy. cool, they have a crunchy texture. They also tend to get stuck in the teeth.

    • These sound delicious I'll try them soon.
      Here are some protein balls:
      50g coconut
      50g cocoa
      30g almond meal
      30g LSA meal (linseed/soy/almond)
      100g protein powder (chocolate)
      2-3tbs crunchy peanut butter
      3/4 sweetened condenses milk
50g chopped nuts- I use raw cashews, almonds and pistachios.
30g chopped sunflower and pepita seeds.

I also add 30g hazelnut meal. Add all the ingredients in a bowl and then scoop tablespoon sizes out roll into a ball and then roll into coconut, refrigerate. Done!
