Dropbox is currently costing me $132au a year. Ill be having a look at this one.

    • and is it (still) slow?

      BlackBlaze is $5/mth btw.

      • I use multiple cloud services which sync together and Blackblaze isnt on the list of clouds I can use. I see that Onedrive has free 200gb, which will fit me perfect and I'm able to sync it with my other cloud.

I've been meaning to look into this to cut costs a bit and now that you have my attention, i'm on to it!

        • Do you use a third party service for syncing them together or some software?

        • @Lukian:

          www.cloudhq.net Works fantastic.

If you need a referral let me know.

        • EDIT - Onedrive is au$4 a month for 200gb

    • Dropbox use AWS storage underneath btw.

yup. Dropbox and Amazon Cloud Drive both use Amazon S3 storage.

Which is already available on the free tier - 1st year of AWS account: https://aws.amazon.com/free

Cloud Drive will just be a friendly interface for S3 though - so for most people here it'll be more useful.
For those that are tech savy and you can double dip and try AWS.

  • According to Cloud Drive TOS, "3.2 Usage Restrictions and Limits. The Service is offered in the United States. We may restrict access from other locations." And I cannot purchase the plan probably due to my registered address with Amazon account. I thought I can free up my hard disk space at last :S

    • You just need to change the address to a random US one. Mine went through straight away.

    • I'm using an Australian address and a Sydney VPN. No issues with assessing Amazon Cloud Drive.

      • I'm using Australian address and PIA Sydney VPN, but I cannot reproduce your result. I also tried to change billing address and shipping address to US one but with no luck (but with AU phone number). Instead I have to use US VPN and create a new account with US Address, US Location, US Phone Number (Maybe the AU phone number is the problem?), then it works :S Oh well, anything for bargain :D

  • WARNING FOR OZBARGERS:

"This plan is currently not available for your country yet."

  • Ho do I change out my cloud drive that supposedly already exists?? I believe the free version is a pack-in for every amazon account, and it is stopping me buying this deal even with VPN as

" This Amazon Cloud Drive storage plan is unavailable for purchase as your Amazon account already has a non-US Cloud Drive plan associated with it. Please delete this item to continue. "

I for the life of me can not find any where I can cancel or change my cloud service location, even though my Amazon account is now US based… hmmmm… disappointing!

You have to email them and ask them to change the location of the clouddrive.

Mine was set to Germany for some reason and when I signed up for prime earlier this year (with a US address) I managed to get music and instant video to change to US with no problems by tweaking all the location settings but my clouddrive stayed stuck on Germany. After a few emails they fixed and it now works..

      • Excellent, Thanks this worked!

still says $59.99 (USD) for me.

    • No problem with or without a VPN - $5 as advertised.
Are you logged in any Amazon account at the time?

  • Great deal, do I need to use a VPN to upload my files? would it detect that I am using an Australian IP and block my uploads or something? Also is my back up encrypted on Amazon? I assume they would have access to the data uploaded but would appreciate it if someone can confirm.

  • I purchased this (last friday) but it hasn't cleared on my 28Degress CC nor do i have the data in my amazon cloud account, only the 5GB.

  • Anyone else run into a 100GB directory limit?

    • Looks like they fixed it with the new Mac desktop client…
