  • I use the free version and it is pretty good. I think the free one only supports up to 5 sync connections.

  • Op, did you buy it?

I'm curious about using this to keep a Movie folder in Sync with my parents and brothers for home video etc and assuming I have to install it on all of their devices using my credentials?

    • Yes I bought it, mainly for selective sync.

  • I used to use the Beta and it was awesome, I've lost data twice using the release version and it stores the deleted files on your machine which eats space. The GUI is unfriendly and it seems to have issues staying in Sync. I was the biggest fan of this but I'd have to say stay away now.

    • It only keeps 30 days worth and you can modify that so that should keep it for a minimal time.

Has been working ok for me so far. I would prefer it was a bit faster doing LAN transfers though.

      • Yeah I agree, it's so slow over LAN. Also I keep both sides in Sync using a different program and it takes forever to, delete/sync the left over files.

It also never shows in Sync which is annoying.

I bought it on my phone and with the coupon it came to $25 AUD. Don't know if that's what you guys are seeing on your computer.

You're right. I didn't even notice the A in front of the price and just assumed it was US dollars. Title updated.

Edit: I paid via the website with Paypal.

Edit 2: I had originally thought it was $40, which it is in USD. I had just presumed they'd increased the price to $50. So buying in AUD is actually a better deal as $20 USD is about AUD$27.50

  • Syncthing

    • Synching is not syncing metadata, so if you tag a file with a colour, for instance, it will not be sync on the other end. I'm still using BT sync 1.44 and it is good.

    • I did briefly try it and like free and completely open source. Very similar concept though. A commercial product at least should have a bit more support and development. I found some things a bit odd e.g. you have to manually run it yourself - no option for automatic startup. Also quite manual when making connections.

That said BitTorrent Sync is by no means perfect.
