  • Can anybody confirm that these can be used to purchase WIsh cards in store?

    • +1

I have in the past but that was before they did a change to their terms and conditions which may now preclude this. I did it at the time because my wife was unsure about using the eGiftcard method and wanted to use the 'good old' physical cards. This was in May 2015. We have since been converted to prefering eGiftcards now.

I actually got an email back from everyday rewards saying:

    Hi Daniel,
    Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that although we have specific branded gift cards, all of our Gift cards can be used at any of our brands within the Woolworths Limited Group.
This applies to e-gift cards as well as physical gift cards
    Hope this helps
    Kind regards,
    Gift Card Team

Not sure who to believe but I have got my Groupon Big W eGift cards and will try to buy something tonight and see how it goes.

    • Just try a test order online :)

    • Hey Daniel,
please give us update if its working in woolies too or other woolworths places
      looking forward for your reply
      thanks :)

      • Tried to use the Big W eGift card at Woolies today, it disn't work, says invalided. :(

        • Thanks mate really appreciate for your response may be try to buy something at big w and then return it you might be able to get a gift card and thanks again

        • @jag007: hey mate, I bought Woolworths gift card at big w, and it works

        • @AG1304x: wow can we buy woolworth gift card with egift card

        • @jag007: You need to be at store (not online).. Just pick up a woolworths gift card and at the checkout counter tell them that you want to pay with egiftt card

        • @jag007: latest update: it seems the store staffs have received an instruction not to allow this

    • Anyone able to test theirs on the woolies website? :D

    • They were the old rules, the new T&C's explicitly state they can't

      • +7

No one cares about the T&Cs we only care about the execution, can they be used at Woolworths or not.

        • Well try it and find out! Please report back.

  • Not sure what their reasoning behind making them only redeemable at Big W was, has any tried to use them elsewhere lately?

    • BigW along with Masters is badly under performing for Woolworths. It makes sense they're trying to push customers towards BigW.

      • hate the normal working hours at my local BigW during normal days (except Thurs), operating hours were same as normal office hours before… and had shopped at some other BigW near Sydney.. dread stepping into that store brand.. had to wait ages when buying items, and checking out through cashier counter.. there was like 7-10 people stuck at some BigW cashiers on weekends and they opened just one or two cashiers, queue wasn't even moving.. in the end, simply gave up when I only wanted to get 1 or 2 items, i just left the items where I picked them and left the store to go elsewhere to buy them.. not surprising that they are not doing well, they are not good with electronics also, which BigW also sells.. couldn't find people when i wanted to price match and buy it, hardly bought electronics from there anymore..no wonder they sell Dick Smith..

and hardware, not surprising.. stepped into masters, same situation, young blokes that don't know how to use those items they sell.. younger than me, looked at me with that funny look when i asked them, also read the instructions like i did, they also asked around but still can't figure it out then try to pull some crap through.. and not better priced than bunnings.. i still go to bunnings although they are pretty close, a couple of blocks away..

  • I think Big W online has been connected to Ezibuy in the past so you couldn't use Big W gift cards online.

  • According to…
    https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/media/static/Docs/wish_tnc.pdf
the "Big W card" is a "Wish Card" and as such can be used everywhere Wish cards can.

    • Nope. What you are buying is a Store eGift Card with different T&C's

6.3: BIG W Store eGift Cards can only be redeemed at all BIG W stores or online at
www.bigw.com.au (excludes online photo processing) and excluding at standalone photo
kiosks, DVD vending machines and mobile EFTPOS terminals.

  • Boy, could it be more confusing? The terms seem to say a Wish egift card is for general use at any Woolies group store, but a particular store egift card can only be used at that brand of store (so BigW card only at BigW).

  • +1

I used the last 7.5% BIGWdeal cards from the entertainment handbook only for Petrol at Caltex stations … the T&Cs have clearly changed now (not even valid online and for photos). The Wish card is still sold at only 5% discount.
But you never know what the actual payment system does until somebody tried it out …

  • What's wrong with using Big W Gift Card only at Big W ? From now till Christmas/New Year, there will be lots of 'specials' coming up, so there are lots of chance you can use it there. If you want to spend at Woolie, there are always $10 off $100/$150 online offer with the 5% off Wish egift card.

    • +1

Some of us don't have one anywhere near us. Want to use it for groceries and petrol.

  • +1

Yeah last year I stocked up on the 7.5% big w e-gift cards and used them at Woolies and Petrol. With the revised T&C's, will be curious to see if this is still the case.

  • I still have a few BigW eGift card purchased earlier this year…used it last week at Woolies and was ok…

  • +8

I will be another bunny, I have just ordered $100 worth, if it arrives by 10pm I will go down to my local woolies and try using it.

Has worked in the past at Woolies, dont expect it has changed, even though the T&C have changed…It is all the same system…

    • +5

I just tried it, it won't work. The card number format has been changed.

      • +1

Agree, I tried to be smart and tried the normal last 10 digits of the 6280….. number and it didn't work. :(. Bad news people's.

Mind you I did not try the new 13 digit format, as there was somebody behind, and I didn't want to have a second decline :( to slow people down even more. Can you confirm you used the 13 digit and it didn't work?

        • +4

I tried both numbers and none worked.

        • +1

          @samehada:

Cheers. Interesting that the full T&C's do not say you can't use to buy other gift cards, eg WISH, in-store. I thought that was in the old T&C's

Off to BigW in the morning to try that conversion out. Again, never been an issue in-store to do this, the systems use to accept it GC a purchase, and it was only some managers whorefused (based on some comments via OzB), and I never experienced a refusal.

  • I just ordered one. The card received says "This eGift Card is redeemable at BIG W stores only"
However, I checked the egift card ordered during last deal, then they didn't have any such restrictions last time.

  • +6

I just got my BigW eGift card and the in store number is different to the WISH gift card number format… Big W number format has changed to xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-x while the Wish gift card format is xxxx-xxxx-xx, so I'm fairly sure that it won't work at Woolworths or Woolworths Petrol. I could be wrong though as I haven't tried.

    • +6

I just tried using one on Woolworths online and it wouldn't accept it :(

      • Going to have to find something to buy at big w now.

        • +2

          Wish gift card???

  • So in conclusion, can this card use at Woolie or for petrol ?

    • It cannot

      • thanks

  • +5

You can convert bigw only egift to physical wish card at bigw store. there's no restriction in T&C as well as their system accept it.

Ask for manager if cashier refuse.

    • -2

i will reject you if you come to my store

      • +1

lol thanks less than 18 year old checkout kid :D

    • Even the manager refused.

  • +4

buy something, return it, should get a returns card usable at WW.

  • Wow! The lengths some people will go to for a bargain. Even if it's far more hassle in the long run.

    • its the ozbargainer way? haha.

    • +3

Thats the ozbargain way! When u spend $5k per year on groceries, adds up to $375 per year (7.5% off), $250 for 5% off. Save $125 per year. Thats a free big shop for me sorted.

And my bigw is next to woolies. So easy to head into bigw and buy the wish gift card with egiftcard and head next door woolies and use for petrol.

      • same same. I ask the question, would you like to pay $1000 for those groceries or just pay $925.

From a petrol perspective, that $7.50 saving per $100 is another ~10c a litre off on top of a docket. No Brainer.

        There is but on choice!

  • Even if the code can't be used at Woolies, just buy a Woolies gift card from Big W. The end result is the same, you just need to jump through an extra hurdle.

    • Which for some, including me, isn't worth the extra 2.5%.

      • My closest Big W is much further away than my closest Woolworths, Target or Kmart so it's not worth going there just to convert gift cards.

        • Yeh and you go there and they don't even have a working air conditioner.

No wonder they don't make any money.

        • There is no guarantee they will do it anyway - because only some staff members convert if you are very lucky

  • Woolies don't know they don't work yet!

    I asked them in email…

    [from [email protected]]
    Dear Richard,

I am writing to you in relation to your enquiry that was submitted via the Everyday Gift Card website on 03.12.2015.

Your Big W Gift Card can be used across all Woolworth’s divisions. This includes Woolworths and Safeway Supermarkets, Big W, BWS, Dan Murphy's, Masters Home Improvement, participating Woolworths Caltex co-branded outlets, Thomas Dux, and also through our online shopping websites.

A full list of participating stores can be found on our website www.everydaygiftcards.com.au under the ‘Learn More” tab on the right hand side of the home page.

Although we have specific branded gift cards, all of our Gift cards can be used at any of our brands within the Woolworths Limited Group.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Kind regards,

    Gift Card Team

So much fuss about whether these will work at WW etc, when title clearly says Big W…

  • +3

The ability to use their gift cards across the entire group used to be one of the best things about Wish gift cards. Now that they've removed that it's next to useless again, just like Coles gift cards.

Along with the whole QFF thing, they've basically taken everything that was good and valuable about their brand and tossed it out. They're basically just turned into a complete Coles clone. There's seriously no reasons left to choose Woolies over Coles.

    • +1

I think they are trying the "forget" tactic, hoping that people will forgot to use their bigw egiftcards and they can get those $ & might put them as an item for BigW in their balance sheet to increase their revenue under that category and answer to their shareholders that they have increased revenue, etc.. desperate move i reckon.. they can try this stint and succeed the first few times through Groupon, and Entertainment, after that, dont think it will work.

not to forget that woolworths have a shorter gift card duration, its 1 year compared to 2 years for coles. I would rather get Coles gift card if both of these are offered at similar discounts (both of them are nearby in my neighbourhood shopping centre).

  • +1

Just wanted to update, I wasn't able to use the Big W brand gift card at Woolies store the other day, but was able to use at Masters onLine.

  • Went to Big W at lunch time, and to check out at the Cashier, she went to check with the supervisor then came back and told me that I can't use the Big W egift card to buy Wish gift cards and other gift cards either. :(

  • +1

bought $2.5K with the plan to swap them to WISH and other cards..
Cannot really see the condition that you cannot pay for other gift cards using BigW card..

pretty sure can push the cards back through the financial ombudsman but prefer not to

    • +1

update - swapped to physical WISH cards at a counter.. no questions asked.
