  • usable at woolworths?

    • doesn't look like it

BIG W Store eGift Cards can only be redeemed at all BIG W stores or online at
www.bigw.com.au (excludes online photo processing) and excluding at standalone photo
kiosks, DVD vending machines and mobile EFTPOS terminals.

      • Whose the test rat gonna be? or do they always say u cant but ppl do?

        • It has been confirmed, you can ONLY use these egiftcard at BigW

      • BigW online don't accept wishcards, but they do accept BigW cards, which indicates they're different beasts?

        • that's true. I tried to buy something a few months back and the online store didnt accept wish cards. Thought it was a bug or something

        • @easternculture: Same thing happened when I tried using a physical Masters gift card at Wollies. It did not work in store or online.

        • +1

          @unity1:

They must be upgrading the gift card system and phasing out the old system.

Or they might be making these specifically for the groupon deal to generate revenue for the Big W section

        • +2

@easternculture: Possibly, that's the reason I'm not willing to take a risk with this deal.

        • +1

          @unity1:

same. I don't really buy anything from Big W so im giving this a miss too.

But its a good deal if you intend to buy something from them

        • @easternculture:
No restrictions in the terms and conditions prohibiting purchasing a gift card with these egift cards so I'll be looking at converting to physical wish cards to use in all Woolworths Group.

        • +2

          @AnophthalmiaCervidae:

technically you cant buy a gift card with a gift card

some attendants will refuse to sell you gift cards so be careful. Its happened to me before and was forced to sell the gift cards at a $10 loss on gumtree because i had no use for them

        • @easternculture:
If I recall correctly Coles Group gift cards do have in their T&C's that you can't buy a gift card with a gift card.
These cards T&C's state "Your Store eGift Card can be redeemed for goods and services from Store eGift Card Participating Stores" it does not specifically exclude gift cards, it does however exclude prepaid Visa and MasterCard Gift cards.

        • +1

          @AnophthalmiaCervidae:

Feel free to try and report back. Im just telling you from my experience that most attendants at big w and woolies will not sell gift cards with gift cards . That's what they are instructed by management

        • @easternculture: I have purchased the wish e-gift cards through the entertainment book at 5% off and have been using those e-gift cards to purchase physical gift cards at Big W & Woolies…. I have also used these e-gift cards to top up my opal at selected Woolies. I haven't had any issues.

However I am yet to use my e-gift cards to purchase a physical Big W or Woolies card… Not sure if it would work on its own brand of cards.

        • any idea if you can buy itunes cards with them? they're sort of giftcards, but not really.

        • +1

          @unity1:

I used a Masters gift card with Woollies online last week - it worked fine.

        • +1

          @couponer315:

I've used a woolworths e-gift card (from cash rewards) to buy a Big W physical card. [No additional savings, was just a test purchase while back]

I've used physical Big W card to buy Woolies stuff.

        • @dontapoligize: Good to know. Thanks!

        • @easternculture:
Converted mine to wish cards yesterday (regular checkout, not self serve).

Had 3 different staff members involved in the transaction told them all we were paying with eGift cards and none of them had a problem with it. The guy manning the checkout (must be Christmas staff) didn't even know how to process the gift cards, he got someone to help him. Then the register was asking for an ABN because the transaction was over $1000 (not required because I am not an AB), but the girl who came to help queried it with someone else who came over and helped the first guy with the eGift card payment.

Even with all that, still only took us a few minutes.

        • @AnophthalmiaCervidae:

i converted mine to Wish Cards today too. So buy away OBs

        • @easternculture: You can try again at another stores, but for 2.5% extra I don't think it is worth the hassles and risk.

    • +1

And if they can, can you use them for Opal top ups?

    • +1

Bought one. I guess I will find out. The last time this was on, it said Big W stores only as well. Might have changed though, I shop at Big W anyway, so no biggie if not accept at Woolworths.

      • There are some Masters gift cards (physical) out there that can't be used at Woolworths (in store and online)

Previous deals didn't seem to contain the big warning in red letters https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/national-deal/gg-woolworths…

        • where did you get these physical Masters gift cards?

        • @samehada: From Masters. Not very practical when they can't be used across the whole group.

    • Solution is to just go and buy a physical 'I work in all stores' WISH gift card at Big W with your eGiftcard.

  • +1

Can you use this to buy other gift cards like the Woolworth ones?

    • +1

I think you can. Previously I can use BIG W giftcard to purchase Wish Gift card at store.

      • +2

depends on the attendant at service desk. They refused to do it for me everytime i try

        • +9

          Face issue?

      • Can 100% confirm that I can purchase a generic Wish physical gift card with the Big W branded eGiftcard. Just did $500 X 5 cards just then at Big W Melbourne QV.

        • It is hit and miss with the store and staff, not really worth the risk, as soon as the check out staff hear the word gift card, it will raise concern and they won't allow you to pay with gift card.

  • +1

Good to pair with the 500gb PS4 deal this weekend?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/222584
    $346

  • Removed so I can double check the conditions again.

    • Saw your earlier comment before you edited it, the updated terms as of October 2015 mention that Big W eGift cards only work at Big W, Woolworths Caltex at only Woolworths Caltex etc (section 6).

These are the older T&Cs from June 2014 which don't mention that though.

      • -2

Yeah. Was going through my saved eGift cards from May 2015 and they did not have the restriction back then but looking at the Terms and conditions it looked like it was store specific.

I just logged onto the everyday site and end a question to them asking if we can use the Big W eGift card to purchase a Woolworth or iTunes one as an example. I'll let you guys know it you can.

According to the terms there is no restriction about it so I guess you should be able to.

        • +5

What a dumb question to ask.

It is already written everywhere, even on the gift cards not to purchase a gift card with a gift card all your question does is draw more attention to the fact, meaning they will keep tightening up procedures as per this thread that we can see they are already attempting to do.

          /rant.

          @chill:
Just got this back from the Everyday rewards people:

          Hi Daniel,

Your Big W Gift Card can be used across all Woolworth’s divisions. This includes Woolworths and Safeway Supermarkets, Big W, BWS, Dan Murphy's, Masters Home Improvement, participating Woolworths Caltex co-branded outlets, Thomas Dux, and also through our online shopping websites.

A full list of participating stores can be found on our website www.everydaygiftcards.com.au under the ‘Learn More” tab on the right hand side of the home page.

Although we have specific branded gift cards, all of our Gift cards can be used at any of our brands within the Woolworths Limited Group.

          Hope this answers your question.
          Kind regards,
          Gift Card Team

I'm going to re-query them about their wording as I specifically said e-Giftcard but I'll also mention that it will be purchased from the Groupon deal.

FYI, this was my original query so they obviously didn't read the question properly:

Can I use the a Big W e-Giftcard to purchase other gift cards like the standard wish gift cards or iTunes ones at a Big W store? Also are Big W e-gift cards locked to be used only at Big W or can I use at all participating everyday rewards stores?

        • @danielh: DAMMIT. I should have bought some. Just got this response:

          Hi Daniel,

          Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that although we have specific branded gift cards, all of our Gift cards can be used at any of our brands within the Woolworths Limited Group.

This applies to e-gift cards as well as physical gift cards

          Hope this helps
          Kind regards,
          Gift Card Team

        • @danielh: Looks like the deal is still on so I just got $2,500 worth. If I cannot use it in other locations I'll refer to the email I got from Everyday rewards (or just buy other gift cards (which I have done in the past))

        • @danielh:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/223033?page=1#comment-3260…

someone reported the egiftcard couldn't be used at woolworths

        • @rocket-tear:
That is interesting as I got another email from the Everyday rewards people saying:

          Hi Daniel,
          Thank you for your email.
          I do hope this helps.
          Kind regards,
          Gift Card Team.

This was in response to my message asking:

Thanks but I just bought 5 x $500 eGiftcards from the link I sent before and the fine print on the coupon says “The BIG W Store eGift Card is redeemable at BIG W Stores and BIG W online only”. I assume I just ignore that and go and shop at Woolworth etc. Is that correct?

To be honest, I just want to go in and buy a bunch of $500 Normal WISH gift cards at Big W and I think I should be able to do that as I don't see that as a restriction on the eCard.

        • +2

          @danielh:
I've just bought 2 x $500 wish cards using this big w egiftcard without any problem. The cashier called in her manager but didn't say anything about using one gift card to buy another gift card.

        • -2

@rocket-tear: Thanks for confirming that. I actually went in today with my saved PDF (with that voucher bar code) and tried to buy a $500 Wish physical card but the girl there said she couldn't scan it as she did not think that PDF was an actual eGift Card. she was so sure of herself that I didn't question her at the time but when I later went through the PDF, I realised she must have been wrong.

          Very annoyed.

        • +1

          @danielh:

the pdf with a barcode is not the actual egiftcard. you will receive an email with egiftcards with a card number and a pin.

        • -1

@rocket-tear: Thanks I was just about to redact my previous comment as I went to my original email and logged into my Groupon account for the first time.

        • @rocket-tear: How long was it before you received the email with the eGiftcard number and PIN? I have not go it yet and it has been almost a week.

  • Can I make the purchase with BIG W Store eGift Cards?

  • +1

Section 6 of the T&Cs specifically state that Big W egiftcards can only be used at Big W
    https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/media/static/Docs/StoreeGIF…

6.3 BIG W Store eGift Cards can only be redeemed at all BIG W stores or online at
www.bigw.com.au (excludes online photo processing) and excluding at standalone photo
kiosks, DVD vending machines and mobile EFTPOS terminals.
6.4 BWS Store eGift Cards can only be redeemed at all BWS stores and excluding at standalone

via Cellarmasters phone ordering service (1800 500 260)
6.7 Dan Murphy’s Store eGift Cards can only be redeemed at all Dan Murphy’s stores or online at

www.masters.com.au and excluding at standalone photo kiosks, DVD vending machines and

    • I think the e-gift cards are restricted to that store but physical cards can be used at all ww group stores.

  • If I buy an iPhone using these eGift Cards (instead of credit card), would I still be able to claim TRS for it?

    • yes, just make sure your name, address is on the invoice

      • Okay great! Do I actually have to ask the staff to give me a tax invoice (with name or address) or is it something they usually do with purchases over $1000?

    • Yes you can..

  • +6

Damn store specific restriction. Not worth the hassle for an extra 2.5%.

  • Just tried to buy some - says "no longer available", but if you click on the pic on the RHS of the top of this post, it will buypass that & still let you in!

    • still working here

    • they're still there, keep trying

    • Still works for me. Then they did this last time I was sent an excel file with everyone's names, gift card number, email and pin. Basically we were all sent this and the total was about $1.3m I think. Some people managed to do click and collect for some large items with the vouchers before it was cancelled.

So far it looks like less than 100 cards sold so they are not even close to the May 2015 deal.

      • why would they send you those details?

        • It was a mistake by someone who probably no longer works there anymore. I actually just looked up the file and the total value was just over $1.3m.

  • Can I stack multiple gift cards (eg: 2x$500) to buy an item (eg: $1000)?

    • Yes but I'm not sure how many you can stack for online transactions.

  • FYI I purchased big w e gift cards preciously and used them for woolworths.
Having said that it could have changed.

    • +3

they didn't have the red warning previous deals.

This time its a Large Red Alert

      • The BIG W Store eGift Card is redeemable at BIG W Stores and and BIG W online only

  • Can I pay off a layby with gift cards?

    • +2

Laybuy is still actually a thing??

      • +1

I know. I am not much of a layby person myself either, but heading into Christmas it's handy.

      • +1

Layby is an awesome alternative to running up credit card debt. It's especially great for Christmas time where you don't actually need the items until Dec 25 anyway, so if they hang on to them that's ok.

It's like a raincheck where you make regular payments :D An interest-free payment plan

    • +1

I thought you're asking whether you could pay off a "ladyboy" with gift cards lol. Damn, I need my eyes get checked haha!

    • +1

      Yes u can

  • dont they sell woolworth gift cards at big W?
im still purchasing at big W

  • +1

Damn, these used to be eligible for dan murphts, woolworths, caltex etc but now can only be used at big w, not cool

  • +1

I bought one. Last time I bought JB HIFI gift cards at BigW. Stack them with 20% off sales. Triple stack with extra 5% off also.

    • Sorry, I'm new to OzBargin but was hoping to use this deal to buy a JB Hi Fi gift card. What do you mean by stacking? What is this 5% off?

      • +1

With the last BigW card I had, I walked into a BigW and bought a JB Hifi gift card of the same value (so a $200 JB card for $185 in a sense). You then use that card to buy things % off at JB, for example DVDs are current;y 20% off. There is also another 5% off today if you have the email. So in a sense you get 20% off dvd, plus another 5% and then use the gift card which is 7.5% off.

  • +3

Convert to Woolworth gift cards from BIG W stores - all good.

    • Don't they normally not let you buy gift cards with gift cards

      • +3

that's correct, as per instructions for their store managers

      • I bought JB HIFI gift card before had no problem

        • At a self service checkout or normal checkout

        • @strikerzebra: Normal checkout

    • -2

Did this yesterday. Got QFF points on the Big W eGift card -> Wish conversion. Got them again on the Woolworths shopping purchase and will continue to do so until 31/12 when QFF points stops.

  • +2

    BigW gift cards
    Groupon
    Screw that

  • All gone :(

  • Ozbargained! 295 bought and no longer available…

    • Check from groupon app.

  • +2

Guys, try buying from Groupon mobile app, still on :D

    • but everyone wants cashrewards cashback which is not available via app !!

      • But CR won't give you any cashback on giftcards purchases as stated in the instruction!
