personally suggest you stay away from these TCN cards , especially $500 TCN kids. Scammers have re-write the magnetic stripe so you cannot use it physically in store. Then they will drain the funds within a few days .

    Victims everywhere including me.

    • +1

did you bring them back to place of purchase for a refund?

      • +7

no, Woolworths no longer dealing with refunds of these TCN cards , as there is no damage and they refer back to TCN. TCN ask for police report etc ,then wait…I dnt think they are ready for this at all.

        • +3

thanks for the heads up. I can't believe they (colesworths or any retailers) still have these giftcards for sale then. Should have put them off the shelves until it is dealt with

So the only safe option is to buy code giftcards like PS/XBOX/Nintendo/Apple … then add to account at the store immediately after purchase

    • +2

Was gonna say lets get ready for cyber Monday and Black Friday but it looks like its not a good idea any more.

    • Is this confirmed anywhere?
Like I know there was the widely publicised recent exploit but re-writing the magnetic stripe is another level.

Actually thinking about it, why re-write? Just destroy it with a magnet? Then you're left with the same exploit as before.

      • +1

I think it is because :

they re-write it, then EFTPOS machine showing "card not accepted", then victoms will consider maybe it is just not activated let's wait a bit. Even the JB casher said they have seen a lot of "card not accepted" recently.

they destroy it, then EFTPOS machine showing no response with swipe. Victimes will know something is wrong

        • +2

Why wait? They can just input the numbers manually.

          • -2

@bcYield: yeah they can. However, input number manually for customer and business is kind of high work ethic behaviour which is kind of scarce nowadays.

      • Warning: TCN gift cards are gift cards are sometimes targeted by scammers. You can check for signs of tampering but in some cases people have reported having their gift card’s balance drained even without it displaying signs of tampering.

        GCDB knows this too

    • +1

Completely agree. Not worth the stress

      • -3

Maybe add them to Apple Pay?

        • You can't convert any recently manufactured TCN variable/$500 cards into digital cards. Only some $50/100 ones can still be converted, subject to the possibility of null EAID errors.

    • What happen to those who stockpile these GCs and can't refund?

    • Just used the variable load TEEN cards in the previous offer to buy an iPhone from JB Hi-fi without issue.

Just make sure the card doesn't have obvious signs of tampering.

  • +9

Cant exchange them for digital JB cards, it's not worth it anymore.

Being able to exchange it for a digital JB card immediately after buying, you had piece of mind that your funds were 'locked in' for a JB purchase. Now only being able to use in store at JB is too risky with the recent scamming warnings with these cards.

    • agreed

    • +1

Oh wow thanks for your comment, I did not know you can't exchange TCN gc's to digital JB ones anymore. I was planning to stock up on these for a future purchase of an Apple Watch when it goes on sale. I did this last year for my iPhone 16 Pro Max (luckily all my ~30+ gc's worth $2,200 went through with no issues which I had to buy from multiple coles and woolies stores). That's disappointing then. Indeed too risky to hold on to them for a long time for an in-store purchase.

  • +1

I had issues with these cards. It cannot be used at Rebel. I found out something wrong. I contacted TCN and they asked for validation receipts. Luckily I kept those. They sent me the digital cards and those need to be added in the app. There is 1 card hidden in app and I am requesting for it. Now i have to find out how to use them. PITA.

    • you bought the same card that has the magnetic stripe rewritten. you are lucky

  • how do you know if the cards have the magnetic stripes rewritten ?

    • You don't until you try to swipe it on a POS.

  • How soon do you usually get the bonus points?

    • +2

I get my qantas points instantly 99% of the time

    • For me the point of sale showed the amount I would received (e.g. You earned $100 Everyday Rewards points) and they appeared in the app instantly.

  • -1

There’s limit of 20000 point per day. I purchased $1400 in last deal and only got 20000 point instead of 28000 . Didn’t see terms about it everywhere

    • +1

Here is the response from rewards app chats:
Welcome to Everyday Rewards. You are chatting with Diamond. I understand that you are expecting to collect 28,000 points for a worth of $1400 gift card purchase. However, you have reached the daily maximum points collection for this type of gift card. You can find the details within the offer, and please ensure to read and understand them before participating in the promotions. You have received the correct bonus points for the gift card purchases both on 06/10 and 07/10. Thank you for contacting Everyday Rewards, have a great day! Take care! Don't forget to boost your Everyday Rewards offers within the app for a chance to gain additional Rewards points on your weekly shop.

They tell you there's a limit of 10 cards per day for the fixed cards and 2 cards per day for the variable cards. The max is $1,000 per day which is 20,000 points - so those are the terms - they must not have explained it to you properly

      • Yeah I read the terms about the limit number of cards but I did not see anything about $1000/20000point per day (still keep the screenshot of the deal, and 100% not being written )

So I got $500x2 and $50x8, total 10cards and thought the point is 28000

        • yeah the terms and conditions don't mention a $ or point limit per day - but it follows that if the max you can get is 10 cards per day on the fixed cards (they go up to $100 per card, so max $1000 in total) or 2 cards per day on the variable load ones (goes up to $500 per card so again max $1000 in total) then the max points is 20000 per day - they just didn't explain it to you properly - the limit isn't on the points or $ it's on the number of cards you can buy per day.

@mar10: What you said doesn’t make sense to me though.

And after showing the proof of the screenshot of the deal to rewards team.

I have got my points back.

            Messages from rewards team:
thank you so much for waiting. I do want to clarify that you were unfortunately given the correct information, as there is no limit of how many points you can receive in one day. You have definitely qualified for the full 28,000 points, and I apologise this was not applied. I will go ahead and apply the 8000 points now for you. Please allow up to 24 hours to see the updated points balance in your account via the app or website under "activity". I am very sorry again, we always want our customers to have a positive experience when shopping with us. What I would suggest is at the end of this conversation, to fill out the survey. The first part is an area where you can express feedback to Woolworths to help us make changes for the future. The second & third parts are about me and my service during our interaction today. At Woolworths one of our core values is to always listen and learn; surveys are reviewed by myself and my line manager for me to be always improving and a specialist team who work to implement what they can do to make changes within our services that will provide the best outcomes.

  • No issues for me, used the $2k same day at JB in-store (4x $500)

Got the cards behind the counter so I assume less likely to be skimmed?

    • +3

I would say it is only safe if you have personally ripped open the incomm plastic pack. Otherwise you can only guess and hope for the best.

    • +1

Be careful with that. Not accusing Woolies staff of tampering, but they would have the most ideal conditions to tamper with the cards and not be caught doing it.

      • Agree. Especially when scam happens, there is no difference between buying from the shelf or over the counter. The result is the same: colesworths redirect you to TCN.

  • Just got done.

    • ?

      • +1

Lost $500, drained from the Teen card.

  • Thanks OP

For anyone interested, ASOS was removed from all TCN gift cards in this deal today. The same thing happened about a month ago, but ASOS was re-added the next day, so I wonder whether today's removal points to a temporary issue, rather than a permanent removal…

    • As expected, ASOS has been added to these TCN gift cards.

However, Mocka. has also been removed from the TCN Baby gift card.
