How Many AmEx 2015 Shop Small Puchases Did You Make?

I have three AmEx cards and made 19 purchases in total. I found only three stores in Brisbane to top up Go card, three in the city and the other 20KM away, which really limited the choices.

And how many AmEx cards do you have?

How is it i hv problem even reaching 10?I find the Shop Small map takes too long to load and not very user friendly.Out of the 9,I encountered 2 vendors that said "oh,we still have not received our amex machine", " we need a 3% surcharge…oh machine cant process yr card..we cant get through to our merchant bank". What excuses!

  • 8 cards and 80

  • I have 1 card and got 1 credit.. So now I feel like Charlie from Willy Wonka.

  • 1 card - 10 credits.

    53 credits over 6 cards @ 28 shops

That's… insane. I bow down to your superior bargain-hunting mastery.

    • geees! that's a lot of shopping.

  • Out of interest what are you guys buying. I have a bank amex with westpac and only used one credit just could not find any bargains worth buying.

    • local fruit and veg, butcher.
Plenty of alcohol. Got 6 Asahi cans for around $16(brewed in Japan), which is really cheap! I was going to post a deal but the Shop Small site was not user friendly.
A few restaurants. One of my favourites sell gift cards too :)
Chirstmas is around the corner so I bought a gift voucher from a gourmet store, for secret santa or to treat myself. :)

      • My best purchase was from Baker's delight!

        • Was yours on the map?
Might try it next year. My local one wasnt

        • @mmd:
Wasn't my local one, it was on the way from my parents' place to mine, yes it was on the map :)

    • So in Hobart….half our 28 shops were restaurants/takeaways.

Others were local gift shops (Xmas Presents), craft shops, flower shop, book shops (x2)

Sometimes +1 and I going in and doing 2 or 4 separate $20 transactions over the different cards

Classy butcher for half price pork belly!—- would you like this slab for $19 or this one for $21….um the $21 slab please

Tassal shop which sells Atlantic Salmon, cutlets were on sale for $15.95 a kg, ended up with 1.4kg for about $12 asfter $10 back
      or whole fish @ $9.95kg, 2kg for $10!

Max I did was 3 cards to pay an $85 restaurant bill, could have used 4 cards but didn't push the point :)

If you stick with the crappy ShopSmall map and flog it, you can get some outliers you will never go to as well

  • 47 purchases of 5 cards. 11 transactions needs to chase up Amexconnect. Priceline Broadway, Aussie Motel Cessnock, Speedway West Ryde. Ones with surcharges for opal top-ups, we already give up chasing.

  • 8/10. Sad.

  • 10 out of 10 :D

I only made it to 63 on my 7 cards which was a bit of a disappointment but I also got $30 from amex for reporting businesses did not take amex that were on the list. 36 different merchants. I have become a big fan of Fruit Nest in Malvern, VIC as a result of this, great service, lovely friendly people and very keen to accept my amex. I will keep shopping there. Highly recommend.

My purchases were mostly food, some myki topups and some prescription medications. Can't wait for next year!

  • 8 deals on 1 card.

But it was waste of time to search the map to find the shop small shops. Half of the time, the shops were not present and on the other half, they would not accept Amex. More frustrating was to write to Amex for the credit. Totally disappointing experince with the whole Amex Shop small campaign.

Agree the map is the worst I have ever used: slow responsive time; too few categories; awkward scroll bar; 10 per page and 100 total; and worst of all: inaccurate data. Some of the stores on the list don't accept AmEx and store which I scored a credit is not on the list.

I'd rather they provide a plain text list on the web.

  • I got about 5 or so credits, one of which was meant to be at Hairhouse Warehouse, but the credit has not come through. I put through a complaint to AMEX and they haven't responded after maybe 3 weeks?

50 transaction @5 cards. 37 Opal top ups divided into 4 cards, 2 at chemist shop, 3 for meals, 2 at lindt cafe for half price mix n match boxes deal and last 4 for bill payments at my internet provider -Fuzenet. Only had 2 Amex cards till mid oct but then got a free velocity card on wife name with me as supplementary and added my dad as supplementary on my card

  • ok i really need to up my game. i didn't realise people went so hard core with this! i did 2 purchases over 3 cards. lol lindt and dan murphys. although I didn't need to buy anything else…

that being said, i didn't even think about hunting down merchants that top up Opal! that's smart!!

    • Dan Murphy's - Are they considered a small business?
      Which shop may I ask?

      • Actually you're right. That's a mistake. The Dan Murphy was a separate deal for $15 cash back. My bad.

  • Mine is 10, 7, 6 for 3 cards

    23x$10 not bad :D

  • Didn't get to fully maximise all 10 credits on my cards, but overall happy with the total rebates :)

93 over 9 cards. The 3 were tracked incorrectly so I've used the cards more than I should've.

    • Wow. how did you manage to get 9 amex card?

      • Got a spreadsheet keeping track what's been done to the cards.

Gets a little hazy after the 50th tx though.

  • about 210 on 22 cards..:)

  • How on earth did you apply for so many Amex cards ? I reckon you hold the record for the most Amex cards.

    • Some of the higher end cards can be splitted up into 2 cards i.e. one for personal and the other for business. Combine that with spouse who also got a fair share of cards of their own, companion cards etc. At one stage I have 4 cards from the same account 2x old numbers and 2x new numbers (conveniently the cards expire in November and remain active till the last calendar day…lol)

Have fun keeping track of all the transactions though. It was a struggle.

  • hehe
    not all my own cards.

I use a spreadsheet and find it quite easy to keep track of all the charges

  • 3 amex cards, 30 transactions. Reported the 3 cards stolen, registered the replacements, then did it all over again.
