  …or you could just buy your ink off of ebay for 1/10th of the price then buy the magazine yourself

  I don't think it is that bad, if you own a HP printer and need to buy ink (genuine ink) you might as well get a free magazine subscription with it.

  I think the poster was saying that you are better off buying locally and then redeeming your purchase for the mag subscription, rather than buy online from HP.

  Note that most of these are available at your local public library.
