  • nice find m8.
    are these made in China?

    what does the C2 mean?

    • As far as I understand all Miele Vac are made in Germany.

As least mine one, not the top of the line, is. Bought 2 months ago.

      • I have read in a lot of Miele deals that there are made in China variations.

im in the market for a good Miele but not sure if this deal is amazing.

Great price for an excellent vacuum cleaner.

I've had the S5212 for the past 3 years and it's been very good.

I'd highly recommend getting the turbo brush head.

  • Do I go with the OzB trend and pick a dyson or get this?

Dyson's are very overrated. I'd pick the Miele in a heartbeat.

Had the Dyson and got the Miele - both within 12 months of each other.

      Go the Miele.

I owned a dyson DC37 for 3 years. Got Miele C3 Cat and Dog last week during ebay 20% off.

Both have comparable suction, which is to say, very good. But the convenience of bags is way better than bagless.

The amount of dust picked up in my living room when I vacuumed it with the Miele yesterday for the first time, if I used the Dyson, I would have had to empty the dust bowl maybe 10 times. No joke. A full dust bowl will not store that much dust. And each time you empty it, it's a real pain because the lid doesn't open up the whole way, and some of the dust gets caught on the lid, so you have to shake the lid. Every time you shake it, fine dust will fly everywhere. Just think of kicking some sand at a beach or desert. You'll see fine dust clouds sift about. That's what you're going to get every time you empty the dyson. Also, a lot of that dust sticks to the inside of the bowl.

You gotta empty this outside on a non-windy day. It's a real PITA.

Take my advice, hands down, get a Miele. A 4 pack of bags with 2 filters will set you back $20 (or less if you buy in bulk). That's $5 a bag, and it's expected to last 6 months a bag. So you're looking at $10 a year running costs. This is more than worth it for the convenience and cleanliness when it comes time to dispose of the dust. I mean, do you want to be emptying your dust bowl 10 times a day, or once every 6 months?

      • I doubt you'll get 6mths out of a bag. We vacuum maybe 6-8 times a week and a bag lasts maybe a fortnight, mind you that's with 3 young kids, a dog and a cat with a S291.

We've had our Miele almost 9 years and still going strong. We've had to replace the head once and the hose just broke, but $70 and $60 respectively to replace and can still get the parts 9yrs later!

        • You vacuum 5 liters of dust in 2 weeks? What kind of place do you live in? It must be really messy to require vacuuming daily. I do it once a week.

        • @lostn: I wish it was all dust. Mostly crumbs and/or bits of paper, the odd sock - kids man!

        • @downforce: Paper and socks are not very bag efficient. That explains why you don't get full use out of the bag.

You gotta clear the big stuff first.

Paper would get caught in my turbine head before it could enter the hose.

Do you have a compact model? Becuase the 6 month typical lifecycle applies to the full sized vacuums, and of course varies from household to household. We're fairly clean (no kids or pets).

        • @lostn: Shit, you mean to tell me we've been vacuuming our place wrong for the last 20yrs? (profanity).

        • @downforce: Either you were or I am. I'm guessing it's you though.

I mean you have 20 year old kids. You'd think by now they would have stopped making such messes that the house needs to still be vacuumed daily.

  • I've got both Dyson (v6) and Miele (s381). I like the v6 for it's convenience but would prefer the Miele if I had to choose.

    • I got a DC59 Animal stick during the mouths of mums promo where you could buy it for half price, and either keep it or return it within 30 days. I ended up returning it. Just wasn't practical. The suction was very good, but the dust bowl was tiny and filled up within minutes. It's only good for touch ups or doing your car.

  • After 3 or 4 cheap vacuums I bit the bullet and bought a Miele. I actually enjoy vacuuming now knowing my vacuuming efforts are no longer futile.

Can't comment on the newer 2000w motor, as mine is a 2200w, but there's no doubt it will be a great machine.

Invest in a turbo head if you have long fibre carpet or animals in the house.

  • Worth waiting closer to Christmas or is this a good price?

Would either of these be good enough for a small room with carpet and a few cars? Have a $200 budget but this is tempting. Harvey norman has $10 shipping on its one.

Saw this AMA on Reddit some time back. Tech recommends Miele for cannister (as opposed to upright) vacs and prefers bags over bagless. Dyson for bagless. https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1pe2bd/iama_vacuum_re…
