Awesome… I already have a whole bunch of parts I've collected over the year.

    When can you build it?

    • +1

no BYO parts / Windows will be installed.

      • I thought it was too good to be true. :(

    • Read the post next time.

Crap company to deal with - you guys need to learn the concept of Customer Service
This is Australia, not China. No need to bring the subsistence mentality here, with the 'take the money & run' mindset….

    • +2

Why mention china? Australia has shocking customer service altogether.

        Australia has shocking customer service

I find most people and stores in Australia are fine.

I found MWAVE pretty crap to deal with though.

        • Mwave have been decent when I have dealt with them. If in stock I generally receive order the next day. Had to return 2x items to them and the process was easy. Am waiting on a current order though, believe they're waiting on stock from a supplier. Things do happen though and I understand there are delays sometimes.

        • Is Fast Eddie still around? Now that right there is what all customer service people should aspire to.

        • @robbiejuve:

          His website is still running.
          http://www.fluidtek.com.au/

it's even got the listing of all the goods sold back in 2010.

Agree, brought from them for years, but no more. You can get shit service and warranty conditions online.

If you want cheap crap service, you go to MSY. CPL has fallen way below standards these years.

      • +2

If you want cheap crap service, you go to MSY.

I'd say most (not all) MSY branches have significantly overtaken CPL in terms of customer service, warranty claim handling and abiding by ACL.

        • MSY has come a long way for sure. Back in the day they couldn't even speak English now I can even ask them for advice on parts and they happily help me out. Had an SSD die, warranty was nice and simple. I don't have a problem with MSY these days.

+1 Terrible service previously for me

    • Agree, CPL is bad. I speak from my own experience. Ordered 2k worth of computer parts for a company desktop there. A lot of trouble and phone calls. Luckily I received everything after 3 weeks.

  • +4

I guess that's a deal, but anyone that would buy individual components (over their set systems) would be able to setup themselves and not wait for their crappy 'customer' service.

    Wow, FREE store pickup!

    • Well at least they can't say "you built it wrong, your fault" if they build it and something goes wrong

      • +4

Then you have to send it back to them, and a "technician" will have to asses it for a number of days. You'll have to come back multiple times to Notting Hill store in the middle of nowhere. All the time you know it's an issue, then they might replace or not even follow ACCC law.

You can get that crap service online, and most times the online store will replace a lot sooner and without as much hassle. Bricks and Mortar stores need to offer a service over online, which CPL no longer does.

    • Plus CPL probably charge more for the parts anyway.

Budget PC have been doing free builds for a long time, less strict requirements (min 3 main parts purchase, BYO parts allowed), easier to deal with. At CPL I'm waiting 30 minutes for them to literally pick something from the shelf.

    • +1

Also had an awesome experience with BudgetPC the 3 times I've used them, 2 online orders shipped and 1 online order picked up, staff were real friendly!

    • +2

Bahaha I thought they would have fixed that. Last time I went there was 5 years ago and they made me wait 15 minutes to get a ram stick worth $30. If you want cheap and no service, MSY is cheaper and has cleaned up their warranty practices after that fine they copped a few years ago.

      • MSY are still annoying for warranty, they will jerk you around for weeks while you wait of their 'repair centre' to assess it. I've waited over 6 months before, others had similar. It's a risk I often take because they are much closer to me than budget PC and most items are low risk. I consider full system worth of components to be high risk from MSY even if I self build and I certainly don't trust their builds.

I had a coolermaster PSU blow up the motherboard, MSY claim the mobo could have killed the PSU. I didn't have time to fight it so I ate the loss.

At least with budget pc I get them to supply and build for free at least PSU/mobo/cpu/ram (highest risk items for catastrophic failure, and highest value) so there is no doubt who's responsible for fixing. So far no failures from them anyway.

Their prices are pretty competitive with MSY usually less than $10 more (all together) so clearly worth that much for the time saved building to a well practiced standard. I like to buy other items too if I'm going to be there anyway and avoid MSY, their stuff usually costs the some otherwise it's a couple bucks for the convenience of not going to MSY.

I avoid CPL more than MSY, their wait times are a killer even if order is fully placed. MSY is only waiting in line for other people, not for the staff to get it, and since online ordering and everyone doing their bit to keep the "msy code" (condition of being told about them is not to hold up lines by asking for computer advice which is probably shit advice anyway). Anyone who I think would hold up the line I send them to CPL. CPL don't seem to have a problem handing out unlimited free advice while other customers wait to even get to the front desk, let alone wait for their order to be picked.

I've easy waited over an hour at CPL to pick up an order that only CPL had stock for. 30 minutes waiting behind a jackass customer asking stupid computer questions to work out what PC they want built, 30 minutes for CPL to get the item from the front display cabinet despite telling them in the first place where it was.

Also at least with my local MSY they are quick to only give vague advice and then suggest a local technician who leaves a card at the desk for free advertising. Very handy for other customers who want to get in and out. Sometimes I'll chip in and give other customers free computer advice just to get the line moving a bit so MSY guy can serve the next person, and give the MSY guy a break from mundane questions and build rapport with them.

    • Yes, I highly recommend Budget PC as well.
Excellent customer service and will help you well after the sale.
Brian the owner is a pleasure to deal with.
Budget PC are why I don't use CPL anymore.

  • free windows installation? i'm sold.

    • … and drivers!!

I used to deal with CPL North Melbourne only because I was a poor uni student and didn't have a car. But now I avoid them like the plague. MSY and Centrecom are both closer but sometimes CPL is cheaper, I don't bother dealing with them. I waited 45 minutes for a wireless router once. JUST ONE ITEM. Terrible customer service. Typical mainland China attitude, bad mannered and just want to cash grab and run you. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.

    • lol? OP down voted my comment
