    Mommoth is the new Mammoth

    • +1

      thanks. fixed.

      • +3

Mommoth is probably a better description for a dick smith sale anyway.

  • is there anything good, i had a look couldn't find anything again.

  • fire sale!

  • Wish they would define what products are "clearance lines"

    • please check screenshot,it have some details about deals and clearance

      • +1

Yep, gives details of percentages off "clearance lines"
As many have discovered not a lot is on "clearance" let alone defined as such.

    • +3

lol looks like they keep contradicking themselves.

    • -1

      If it's still there tomorrow

  • +2

Went to the Highpoint store, had nothing on sale, what's with these sales?

    • Must have sold all the old junk they had already.

    • +2

Are you surprised with this mob? They have been deceiving consumers for years with their so called deals and then they scratch their head and wonder why people don't buy from them.

      • +1

pretty much….dropped over 1K on screens earlier in the year with them and these bullshit sales/promos have gradually eaten away any confidence or goodwill i had with the brand/franchise….

  • I can't find any product at all at dick smith I have been to 3-4 dick smiths its nothing left at all just unwanted items like s4 ,iphone cover and other small items

    • +3

All the good stuff sold out a week ago. There were plenty of bargains to be had. Can't exactly expect them to have thousands of everything the ozbargain post alone got 20000 clicks. Then the facebook dicksmith posts, news.com.au and other websites stores etc it all adds up.

  • Just bought a laptop today :(

  • DSE, forget it in terms of instore promos, will be taken by its own staff anyways.

  • +1

Better off buying from OW, JB, TGG or HN and get them to price match DSE. Warranty/exchanges/returns would be hard if DSE do in fact shut down.

    • and don't forget Masters.. I price matched Kwikset Kevo at Masters for $118.44 (price beat by 10%) last Friday, and on Saturday the item no longer appears on DSE website..

      • 10% off today……

I'm thinking of getting one, any good??

        • Just paid $59.2(inc 10% mates rates discount today)

          Pretty happy with that

          Spare FOB were 7.19 each

        • @albanyson: that's really good price! Which store did you get it from?

EDIT: Just noticed you are from WA, could be better luck there in terms of stock level!

        • +1

          @feihong:
I took the two they had…..

I never have luck with stock levels.
          No hdmi cables at $2
          No slr cameras
          No cheap tvs.

          Half the store is empty…..

I lso got two wemo light kits for 55 each

        • @feihong:

          One Brass/Bronze at Shellharbour NSW

  • Went yesterday and all they had was junk like phone cases, Chargers and hdmi cables. I wish I was in Aus when the sale started, a cheap DSLR would have been great.

  • +1

my mate bought CB radios from 3 stores, were on really cheap price which as usual was not shown in store. So he got those scanned and got about 80% discount.

    • Which radios?

  • Prob only relates to (since that is all they prob have left) Move cables now 10% cheaper…. from $1 to $0.90

  • +1

Or iPhone 4 cables or 5 cases

Thought maybe some of the items staff had hoarded might go back out but latest news article seems to contradick that

  • After the carnage at their Parramatta and Sydney city store last week, I doubt there's anything left.

  • Don't bother, all those items have been sold - I'm surprised there still advertising the 60% of Samsung phones when there's none in any store etc, etc.
They wouldn't even price match a phone mount with there own website.

  • +8

They are doing exactly as they planned. People will keep popping into their local stores just on the off chance they'll score an unbelievable deal, even after all the best stock got cleared last week. Sometimes you feel like you can't leave with nothing and you buy something that you don't even need and they want rid of anyway.

  • +1

"STRICTLY LIMITED! We're Clearing Out TVs, Laptops, Speakers & Fitness!" I cannot find any item cheaper than JB. useless sale

  • +1

Everyday they are telling you 1-day only sale, limited stocks sale, last chance sale…..

Do they really expect people to believe that anymore? We all know the fact is that you have made a huge overstocking mess.

Their management still don't get it. Having these small sales everyday may extract a better prices. But once people realised the same things are on sales again and again. Nobody will believe your have a sales anymore and you will miss the holidays season.

A better approach is to have a genuine overstock sales, bring out everything in store or online.

    • +2

yes exactly - im not sure what the point of the sale is from DSE's point of view.
Have some limited items super cheap that attract staff to hold back and buy for themselves
(i suppose these items are making a loss or just break even)

then on the rest of the items which nobody wants you dont discount them enough so that all the stores appear to still be chock a block full of them.

For them it would have been smarter to take a few days to figure out exactly what they need to clear and exactly how much they should discount it.

Right now it appears they've shot themselves in the foot by discounting the attractive stock too much and now they are left with the dregs nobody wants.

  • moving right along…

lol @ how this is for VIPs too!

    • Who on earth are these VIPs?

Is that meant to make us feel special?

It's illuminating how many people on here seem to have a hate for DS, but still view their posts.

Here's a suggestion - don't look, and then you won't feel compelled to whinge.

If you feel you need to protect the newbies, don't. Let them find out for themselves.

    • +3

It's also illuminating how some people suggest people shouldn't give advice to others about retailers they have had issues with.

Poor retailer conduct should be commented on…. and most definitely should NOT be ignored as you suggest.

It's in the guidelines of this very website- issues with a retailer can not only be commented on, but negged if you feel that strongly about it.

"Letting people find out for themselves" sounds pretty selfish imo. Newbies need even more help! (not less as you suggest)

Let's be honest though, there's a lot that has made sense about the DS sale:

        1. Staff didn't know bugger all about it until the day, which wasn't their fault
        2. They did as they said, cleared TV's on the Tuesday, Audio on the next day etc.
        3. Heaps of people picked up genuine bargains, plenty of posts as such
        4. They cleared certain stock, they didn't tell us their logic completely, but lots of stock was old and needed clearing and they did that

So really while some people have genuine complaints the main complaint I am hearing is "they didn't have enough stock for what I wanted". This isn't a sale it's a clearance. I do sympathise if they took people's money and didn't deliver, but that isn't what most people are complaining about

  • Paid $10 in Dick Sale….$1 in Jbhifi sale on PS3 games…10% pfft!

    • I was so glad I didn't buy the 3 titles I was tempted to buy from DS last week, in the last 2 days have spent that money on about 18 or so games from JB

Mind you not everyone is happy with Jb, heaps of cancelled orders from the online sale. Hardly better than DS for service, depends on the person, after someone in store held 4 games for me, some other a-hole tells me "yeah there's more games for a dollar, but we aren't helping you find them". Fortunately a very nice girl helped me and I didn't have to deal with that dude, although when I went through the checkout he was happy to out his 2c in on what were the worse games I purchased (I think it was an ego thing)

I bought 2 items last week at Eastlands via click and collect. Tried to call them to collect - was told if be advised when items are ready. 2 days later they call and tell me they have none.

Bought another item they were selling via their eBay store. This time at Southlands.
Chased today and then tweeted them for update.
Told 'due to a glitch', blah blah blah, 'oversold' blah blah…apologies..etc….

7-10 days to process refunds. Took my money in an instant though didn't they.
I bet the same items will be back in stock after these so called sales are over.

This company is shonky and needs to be taken to task for false advertising.

Their "stock status" simply just is not reliable, I've been through a few issues.

The first time that I made a purchase from DS it was for 2 items, online tracking indicated that it was being shipped from 2 locations. I received one item and the second item had not arrived after a week. The item was still in stock, tracking said it was shipped, I called up the customer service line and they advised me that I needed to pay for shipping as my items were being shipped from 2 different locations. I told the CS rep that both items were purchased on a single order where shipping was already paid for, the rep then said "for this case I will waive the second delivery charge for you and have the item shipped".

I purchased a cheap TV for a bedroom, there was no stock available from the store that was closest (Liverpool) to me so I went for the next best option to collect it myself. I received an order confirmation for pick up but a number of days had passed and no communication about my order being ready, I called up the store and they said that their stock system was wrong, they did not have any of the TV and would need to order one in or have me collect it from another store. The manager asked me which store was closest to me so that he would contact them to see if they had stock and would call me back, sure enough there was no call back… I went in to the closer DS store and found a few of the TV's sitting in a stack, explained to the staff there what happened and they called quickly called the other store to have the order moved so that I could collect it there and then. Credit to the staff at the Liverpool store because they have usually been on the ball.

There was another time when I ordered numerous items and click and collect was not an option, the majority of my order arrived except for one. Order status said that it was shipped, online tracking indicated that shipping details had been made but that was as far as it got. After multiple phone calls speaking to various people I got nowhere with it, I posted on their Facebook page and within 10-15 minutes I was asked to contact them to give them more details. I got through to someone who could "resolve" my issue, they told me that the Item I had ordered was out of stock and on backorder without any ETA, I was advised I could wait for stock to arrive or get a refund. At this point I was fed up and wanted the refund, the DS staff said they'll send through confirmation of the refund. While waiting for the confirmation email, I took a quick gander at the DS website and happened to find the item that "out of stock and on back" was actually available for delivery and click and collect. Called up a store and they confirmed they had it in stock.

I replied back to the person who sent me the confirmation email stating that the item was actually available and that I was happy to pick it up myself since it was available, they called me back to say that they are unable to allow me to collect my item as I originally chose to have the the goods delivered and that their system did not allow the delivery options of orders to be changed. They left a generic "I hope your issue has been resolved" on my original FB post, I responded to that explaining that the item is in stock but I couldn't not collect it because of their "system". Following that I received a call to say that they've gone out of their way to allow me to collect the item which had not been delivered.

I think in total I've made 6 purchase and half of them have had issues. The only reason that I have for purchasing from Dick Smith is price, that said I advise anyone who purchases from them to take into consideration that there is a high probability that something will go wrong with the order.

  • Does the 10off apply at David Jones as well?

Got a Juice Up 16000mAh power bank from Parramatta. None on the shelf but went to the counter and gave them the code (PW2067). Guy said they had one in stock. I wasn't hopeful but he came from the back and found it. Mentioned VIP and got it for $18. The guys there look exhausted lol. Had a brief banter with 3 of them.
