    Not Australian

    International model

    • Is there any technical difference? Or is it OK as long as it is compatible with all network?

I haven't bought it yet, should I not?

      • +2

May not have all the bands required for these new fangled 4g networks the networks are rolling out. You won't get warranty service via Samsung AU, and will have to wait for however long it takes Kogan to send it on to their repairer.

how is anything from kogan going to be australian stock???

    • -2

LOL, true. I meant it ships from Australia and you don't have to wait for weeks.

      • No, they ships from Hong Kong. Therefore no GST, hence appear cheaper. I stopped buying grey mobiles, god knows what malware or rootkit those third party sellers installed on your phone. From previous experience, all seals in the box has been broken.

I got a s5 from Logan and love it ……. I get updates directly from Samsung instead of waiting for the local release and it has all the Australian 4g bands……. it is a matter of getting the right model…….. Kogan carry several because some people if only studying in Australia want other models for when they travel home.

my s5 is the same model as Australia.

if you get an s6 just checks the 4G bands , Telstra and Optus use 700mhz for the lower bands…… now eBay and 10% off would be sweet.

      took 7 days to arrive.

no root kit or malware ….. generic Samsung build…… gets OTA updates …… upgraded from android 4 to 5 and 6 has been announced .

Kogan carry several models for a simple reason, they sell whichever they could sourced it cheap. Kogan don't care which country you from and if you are going back to your country.

As for updates, if you are impatient you can always update it yourself at Sammobile. Imo, it worth to wait for Au update, as you can be sure it's not full of bugs.

I mind both 32GB on a device with no microSD card slot, and a device that's a grey import being sold then not supported by kogan and Samsung. As nice looking as the device is, not at this price, at this capacity, and from this retailer.

  • Why is it that companies do not honour a warranty because of 'grey stock'?

It's not like it's a clone of inferior quality, so why do they effectively treat as if it is?

    • Likely to stop people from buying overseas where they sell it a bit cheaper.

    • +3

More like Samsung Australia do not want to honour the warranty, simply because why should they bear the costs of repairing phone they didn't sell and didn't contribute revenue to their Australian operation. See, each subsidiaries are given budgets, includes after sales service, that reflect their sales.

But if Samsung Australia are manufacturing the phones, fair enough, but they are practically coming from the same pool the rest of the worlds are.

It does seem like corporations (not just Samsung) use as an easy-out to not honour a warranty.

From what I know, in most Asian countries Samsung just throw all their products to the distributors, it is up to the distributors to set up the after care service. Distributor won't even repair products from other distributor let alone one from overseas. I don't know how Samsung's Australian operation like, but my guess is that the repair costs here is high, since they outsourced all their repair here locally (had my Samsung TV and Galaxy S4 repaired under warranty).

The warranty is only 1 year and supplied through Kogan. Make of that what you will.

From my recent research, I also came to the conclusion that this is the 9208 Indian version. Apparently it is missing the 4g 850mhz band which is used by vodafone.

    • pity does it cover 700 MHz for Optus and Telstra ?

  • Bought the Sony Xperia z5 premium from Kogan a couple of weeks ago. It was a Singapore model because of some preinstalled software… But got rid of those and it's pretty much the same. No boot up logo like a Telstra phone and all that. Delivery was about a week…it said to expect two weeks, but came in less than half that time. As a comparison, I bought a phone case from eBay (Australian seller) on the same day and the case came a day later than the phone…

Tl;dr version - would definitely buy phones from Kogan due to cheap price, quick delivery and everything else pretty much the same.

You're a lucky guy because you received a trouble free smartphone and not a secondhand stock.

      • Really? I'll be honest… this was my first Kogan smartphone. The only reason I decided to was because all the other stuff I've bought from Kogan has had no issues… that includes a 50' TV, camping gear, home stuff… even a water flosser which was faulty but they ended up replacing very painlessly for free. Guess I'm just lucky then…?

  • I got one from Kogan before will again and love it when on eBay with extra discount

Here is an Australian stock with 2 years warranty and almost $20 bucks cheaper AND free delivery: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225793

    • Yep, cheaper at MixClothing (coles)

    • -2

      that version isnt 4g tho

      • +2

The one on Mix Apparel that I've linked? I've checked it again and it doesn't say whether it's 4g or not so are you sure it isn't?

On this Cnet post it says that both S6 and S6 Edge support all 4G Carrier Aggregation offerings currently in Australia:

"Both phones are Category 6 LTE devices and Samsung has confirmed that they will support all 4G Carrier Aggregation offerings currently in Australia, including Telstra's 4GX and Optus' 4G Plus."
