FYI that this vacuum cleaner requires bags (NOT Bag-less).

    • +13

Yes. I prefer bag over bagless. After having been through many bagless vacuums, dyson, samsung etc will not be going back to bagless again.

      • +1

Agree, empty a bagless vacuum is messy.

        • Messy but cost effective hence should be Ozbargainers choice

        • +1

@neonlight: Depends how much you value a few dollars over clean and less frequent emptying. $80 gets you 16 bags. That's $5 a bag which will last you a few months. Better than getting dust all over the place when you empty it.

        • @lostn:

You can get a good bagless vacuum for that price. May as well get a vacuum use it for 3 months than throw it awau if emptying is messy. Still woyld cost you same as using bag ones, if you really like to throw money on vacuum bags.

        • @lostn:
$5 a bag is quite a lot. Any decent bagless vaccum cleaners eg. Dyson is actually great to clean and not too bad to empty out. It's only the cheap ones that becomes a mess with no bag.

I think the same with vaccum cleaners compare to printers where bags are consumables like ink cartridges, which is a running cost itself. Plus when your model is superseded, hard to source bags. Similar comparison to cordless phones eg. Uniden keeps using proprietary battery types where Panasonic I can use AAA rechargeable. Or a Electric cordless lawnmower where the battery won't hold up after 2 years so you might as well get a corded one.

Think cost effective, and get as much as you can over the lifespan of the product at the minimum running costs. That's should be Ozbargainers way

        • @huzefa-oz: A good bagless vacuum for $80? Which one?

        • @neonlight:

I had 2 dysons. Both were very messy with emptying. Fine dust kicks up everywhere if you shake the can, which you have to do because it will stick to the can. The lid is badly designed because it will catch some of the dust falling out. What they need is a 2 stage dust release. Open the lid, but the dust shouldn't come out immediately. There should be another seal that holds the dust in place. Once the lid is out of the way, you slide out the seal and let it fall straight into the bin.

The only other way I can see it not getting caught on the lid is to turn it upside down first, which is not how they tell you how to do it.

I think the same with vaccum cleaners compare to printers where bags are consumables like ink cartridges, which is a running cost itself.

At $5 a bag it will take decades to make up the cost of a vacuum cleaner.

Plus when your model is superseded, hard to source bags.

Not for a reputable brand. They use one model bag to fit several machines.

Do all Ozbargainers drive KIA Rios then?

I'd rather pay more for something better. OZB = finding bargains, not necessarily being a cheapskate. Find an expensive item for cheaper than it normally costs? That's what the site is for. It doesn't mean you have to go for cheaper products over more expensive ones, otherwise we'd all be using the same stuff.

If you're happy with your bagless, more power to you. I got rid of both my dysons, and there's no way I'm going to look back. The reason I bought them in the first place was because I wanted to save money on running costs. Found out not long later it wasn't worth it. Grass is definitely not greener on the other side.

  • Retravision also has a different model for $199 1600w max 1400w normal on their website

    • +1

I thought retravison are closed already.

  • Damn. Bought one for $263.2 2 months ago when there was 20% off ebay.

    • Me too :(

Very satisfied with the product, except the price for now :(

  • +1

Wow. The price has really droppeed. It's a great vac. Very strong suction. Bacgs aint cheap but worth the money as they really filter out all the dust.

godfreys seems to have the best price for the bags.

  • +3

I have an s8. That thing really sucks.

  • yep a good cleaner!

  • This guys doing all the sucking around here, am I right? This guy sucks.

  • +2

I bought a C2 Complete for myself and C3 Cats and Dogs for my bro when they were last on sale from Miele and TGG… the suction on these things is amazing and vacuum heads are designed well. They do a good job with cleaning.

  • I bought a S5 (S5212) from Harvey Norman Online for $299 less $25 = $274. Found myself doing vacuuming 1am in the morning just to test it out after picking it up. It is great though made in China. It is 2200W, and one of the older models.

(Re HN Online: Ordered mid last week and had to go to the store near my home to ask them whether it is ready, not great service at all but that's another story. On the other hand, I ordered from Dealsdirect some chairs and the stock was delivered to me the next day!)

    • In the lowest power mode they are so extremely quiet.

  • I'm on the market for a new vacuum as my previous one died. Was wondering if I should go for this one or wait till maybe Boxing Day sales.

    Thanks

    • Get this. Bargain!!

      • If you can wait there's better ones. But will be more expensive. Just depends if you have a cat or dog etc. There always seems to be some miele on sale if you wait

        • Godfreys had a $189 sale on a while ago. They do it a few times a year. I think that's 2200k. Atleast 2000k for the old model. It's blue. Made in China. But appears to be good quality. Advantage of that one is the tools are stored on board etc. A light bumper bar etc.

But if you have cats or dogs I think waiting for those models to come out would be better.

        • @grandfather:

thanks guys. I'll keep an eye out

        • @grandfather: Why would they be better for dog and cat owners?

        • +2

@grandfather: I remember the sale you're referencing, because I was in the market for a vaccuum cleaner and happened to see the sign advertising $189 for the blue Miele at Godfrey's. Walked in, the girl gave us a full spin on how the vaccuum is German engineered, fantastic quality, but made a bit more compact for the cheaper price (as in, there are no on-board changeable heads stored inside the body). When we asked about warranty/returns, she told us that Godfrey's do not offer a store warranty and that all of that process must be done through Miele themselves. Thought hard about it, went to the Good Guys to have a look at their comparable model.

The guy at GGs confirmed that everything she had told us was a lie. There is a massive difference in terms of build quality, the Chinese import does not hold a candle. Good Guys offered a 2 year local warranty (not having to go through the manufacturer like Godfrey's claimed), all parts were on-board, proper German model, and he did us a fantastic deal and whipped $100 off the price. DO NOT get the Godfrey's shaved down model, you're wasting your money. I've never been happier with a vaccuum.

  • Why is there so much hype around dyson?

I mean this sounds pretty good going off the comments and cheap compared to a $800-$900 dyson

    • +1

The uprights are amazing if you have animals. The barrels are average IMHO…..

I own a upright, sister has a barrel.

  • Have a S5 from 5+yrs ago (~$600) that still gets a workout every second day. Deals with two constant heavily shedding dog fur\dirt. Had to run an air hose through it a few times to unclog, so it's not bullet proof, but can't really fault it.

  • +2

Best vacuum I have ever bought in my entire life. I had about 6 different models, even Siemens, Bosch, Electrolux - you name it… non of them come even close to this Miele S6. Silent, sucks like hell even in half power, glides smoothly is built really well. Love it!!! Bought it on special at good guys for 249,- worth every dollar!

  • Is this good for cats and dogs? Can't find any reviews about that

    • +1

There's a specific cats and dogs model you should get instead. It's part of their C3 range.

      • Agreed. With a turbo brush

    • +1

I don't think they would appreciate that.

  • is this made in China? I heard that they don't make 2000w vacuum cleaners in Germany anymore.

    • Don't know about this, but my C3 Cat and Dog which is 2000w says Made in Germany on the box.

  • +3

Everything you need to know about vacuum cleaners.

Great price and this model comes with the HEPA filter too. But it doesn't have the little on board storage compartment that my Miele does? Edit - did some research - apparently this model has a smaller canister than the previous S5/S6 models so the tools are stored on a clip connected to the hose.

  • How is this compared to Miele c3?

  • Is this model made in Germany?

    • Would also like to know this actually. I searched on both GG and Miele's website and cannot find it anywhere. Not even a product/data sheet on Miele's website, which is unusual.

Another thing I noticed, as a bit of an interesting aside, down the bottom of Mieles product page on the S6, it literally reads, "Subject to technical changes; no liability accepted for the accuracy of the information given!" Wife and I had a bit if a guffaw at this. Not sure that would hold up under consumer law tbh, but a bit cheeky nonetheless.

    • Yes, box says Made in Germany. Just bought one
      https://www.dropbox.com/s/zhb4jm0xxgsn72u/IMG_20151224_13341…

    • The box says made in Germany. I interpret that as the vacuum cleaner too. Hopefully not just the cardboard box being made in Germany.

  • Bought this for a chrissy present http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/electrolux-ultraflex-classic-z…

I saw a few complaint about it (Miele S6) being too heavy and the bags are expensive and small.

    • Hmm that vacuum looks cheap and crappy…

  • +2

Miele S6 is $229 again today.

    • Got an extra 10% with the eBay promo!

      • Um how?

      • +1

Oh the 10% eBay code. Yep I used it and bought it for $209. Great work!

        • Was in the market for a vacuum cleaner.
But after researching on which one to get, I saw this expired deal.
Almost jumped on the S5212 on clearance
$68 cheaper and German made. It has 2000w whereas the S5212 has got 2200W, but I dont think it matters as I've read these suck really well.

  • Does anyone know if this vacuum requires a turbo brush?

  • +1

Woooo its a german model! Cant wait to give it a whirl tomorrow..
