R.M. Williams Craftsman Yearling Boot w/ Natural Sole $299 (from $495) @ David Jones

190

DJ have started their boxing day sale and, as usual at this time of the year, RM Williams boots are on sale. The current offer is for the yearling Craftsman with a Natural sole - one I don't have in my collection yet - at $299, down from $495. From experience, if you're after one of the more stock-standard models, try the stores - they may have a larger variety of boots on sale.

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2015

  • Hi floppydesk, I am on my feet all day am am after a really good pair of boots. Would you recommend them for all day wear?

    • +2

Absolutely not. They are a nice dress boot but they are not the kind of boot I'd wear all day. I often find myself sighing with relief whilst taking them off.

I'd recommend Red Back's for comfort though they aren't a dress boot.

You can get inserts designed specifically for them. I wear quite thick socks with mine and find them relatively comfortable without any inserts. They are beautifully made boots and will last yrs. I wish the missus would let me get these in brown.

Imo they are great value for $299

    • +1

No they will get very uncomfortable. The Timberland classic, whilst not at the same level of quality, is an infinitely more comfortable, all day boot. These boots and Wolcerine 1000 Mile are great for dressing up but they do get uncomfortable if you are standing/walking all day long.

Doc Martens would probably be a good choice. Mine are more than 10 years old, and just starting to wear out - if I ever actually polished them, surely they would have lasted even longer!

    • +1

dude, couldnt believe the hype when i bought mine..looked good but uncomfortable..but after 2 years of breaking in, they are the most comfortable and reach out to them 5 days a week.

I wear the rubber soled version 9-5; 5 days a week. They are very comfortable.

The wooden sole I don't recommend.

      • Wooden sole? Unless RM started making clogs, I think you mean the leather sole. Most of my boots have a leather sole - breathes better and every few years I get a brand new sole, but plenty of people prefer the rubber for harsher conditions.

        • Yes, I meant leather.

Well, it depends. I have quite a few pairs and I think they're a great boot - high quality, durable, etc.

While I am not standing all day long, the boots made their name with farmers and people in the bush, who most certainly are (standing all day long). That being said, they're not an orthopaedic shoe, or one of those with masses of cushioning, so if you're after something like that, probably look elsewhere.

Finally, I would strongly recommend going to a RMW shop and getting fitted - the boots come in a variety of sizes and widths, and you need to know your size if you're buying online.

The RMW shop staff are incredible. Nicest service i have seen when getting shoes in a long time.
I was in there today, looking at a pair of comfort Tambo's for all day wear.

    • THIS.

The RM stores often have promotions as well.

  • David Jones currently has 6% cashback at cashrewards as well :)

thanks OP picked up a pair

  • Been wanting this so long time. I m placing an order with my phone, went through all the last stage of payment, it stated 'an error has occurred…'. Apparently no stock on 9G however when I refreshed on the main page, it still showing stock available for delivery.

  • error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product

I've worn the same pair of rm williams boots every day for over 5 years working as a croupier, which is mostly standing up. They're still in good condition. I wear them with either a thick wool socks or decent insoles (spenco polysorb heavy duty) and they're very comfortable. I would recommend them, they're great value because they don't fall apart like cheaper shittier shoes and they look good too.

  • Thanks everyone for your comments! Will head into a rm shop and suss out the rubber soled ones. Cheers and happy boxing day!

  • Excellent deal!

Unfortunately they don't have the comfort craftsman which are the ones I'm after.

One piece of advice though guys go to a actual store and find someone knowledgeable about shoes and RM williams specifically and get them to help you fit them.

    The sizes are quite strange

  • There is a last pair 8.5G in the market st store. Not showing up online or systems because its a return. It wasnt my size but hope it helps someone!!
