But is it a Grey Import?

    • -1

Not sure about grey import but it comes with Free 1 Year Australian Warranty+Support & Repairs
      +Phone & Email Support

        Its a grey import

        • -3

          Its a grey import

          Nup.

"This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited"

It will be a private import from a Hong Kong seller.

The phone you receive may have been a grey import in to Hong Kong.

      • comes with Free 1 Year Australian Warranty+Support & Repairs

That is a warranty offered by the overseas business Kogan HK Limited, and they contract a local Australian business (Kogan Pty Ltd) to supply that warranty service for them.

However, as Kogan Pty. Ltd. is not a SAMSUNG dealer or service agent, they have no access to SAMSUNG Service or genuine SAMSUNG parts. Unless they return your phone to Hong Kong for repair by SAMSUNG Hong Kong (assuming of course that the phone was first supplied in the Hong Kong market).

    • 100% grey import

      • -2

        100% grey import

Perhaps. Buyers will not know for sure until after they privately import one of these phones from this Hong Kong business.

From the exact model number and/or the IMEI they can then check if it is a Hong Kong market phone, or if it was imported to Hong Kong from some other market.

    • I got my S5 as a grey import from Kogan …… was the same model number as Australian stock ……. get all the latest updates direct from Samsung.

The power pack came with a travel adapter, otherwise was fine and would use them again except my S5 is still going fine and has all out 4G bands.

Just need to make sure of the model number so you get all the right bands.

Phones are very reliable ……. failure rates would be less than 1 in 10,000.

Check motorola, six sigma quality control ……..

      • 1) I got my S5 as a grey import from Kogan ……
        2) was the same model number as Australian stock …….
        3) The power pack came with a travel adapter,

        1) No, that can't be true. You must have privately imported the phone from Kogan HK Limited. Kogan do not sell or supply grey imports.

        2) It was not the same as the Australian model. The Australian models are identified by their IMEI numbers and by an A-Tick (still used by some manufacturers). If you try to get warranty support, SAMSUNG Australia will check the IMEI number.

        3) To be 'legal' the AC Charger has to have the required Electrical Safety Approval for use in Australia. As does the plug adapter.

      Cheaper here for grey import…

No, that is a Hong Kong seller masquerading as an Australian business/seller.

"We have logistic center based in Hong Kong, providing swift delivery services."

SAMSUNG phones from this Hong Kong seller/business may have been grey imports into Hong Kong.

"As our products are grey-imported goods, we are unable to provide any tax invoice for tax claim"

  • always grey

      I believe it's black.

    • there is no assurance how quickly an australian distributor will fix a phone ….. just warranty they they will in 1 week, 2weeks, 4weeks, 8 weeks …… nothing on the warranty card about repair turn around after which time they just give you a new one. ….. might be DOA clause, if fails within 14 days of purchase they replace with new one. It is a warranty, not an SLA.

At least if you buy from Telstra shop, they swap over to keep their customers happy and talking , but you pay more …….they don't say "we are waiting for apple or samsung to get back to us" they have processes and relationships with their suppliers so you have an SLA for phone repairs.

      Grey is good ….

And if you want real service for a phone ….. don't cheap out, get it from the telstra store who will swap or offer load phone if yours fail. I would love to able to afford to buy a samsung or iPhone from Telstra again ……

  • Kogan is grey…I think ozb members should know this….

  • Grey alien?

  • Let's clear up. A3 Australia posts… He said that this might be worse than grey, as kogan Hong Kong imported it, then kogan Australia re imported them from kogan Hong Kong…

Is that how I read your post a3a?

    • kogan import from korea into hong kong ……. korea is where the phones are made….. everybody imports them from korea, even samsung in australia because that is where they are made ………. shipping from hong kong is quick ……. from korea is terrible …….. it's a logistics thing …….surpised they don't use Singapore, it's even quicker.

      Think logistics folks ………….

      • everybody imports them from korea, even samsung in australia because that is where they are made…

Gezzz.. Of course we know that.. But importing can be grey, or official reseller. Samsung Australia importing them as official reseller then distribute to local stores.. that's why we don't call Samsung products we buy from local Australia as grey import products. And being official reseller, Samsung Australia is responsible for the warranty

        • being responsible for a repair doesn't state how quickly they will repair it, and that can be the problem ……. my brevile food processor …… 3 months waiting for parts ….. after threats of Facebook they "replaced out of good will but not because we are obliged to under the terms of the warranty"

Working in IT, we focus on SLAs, how quickly will it be fixed before it's replaced with a new one we don't want technicians trying too long to fix before they replace ……. and they give no assurances with australian warranties for turn around…… so they will fix, but don't within what time, and people assume because it's in australia it will be quick ….. but there is no guarantee it will be quick or how long is quick.

At least some have a DOA clause "replace if fails within 7 or 14 days of failing" but no guarantee that a 3 moth old phone will be fixed within 7 days or replaced. This might be because they need to check if it failed due to materials or workmanship (warranty) or was due to use neglect(not covered by warranty) , and that takes time.

Apple were good ….. checked if screen was cracked, checked if had been dropped into water (has indicator inside) and swapped with a new phone on the spot.
Telstra was the same ….. 5 minute check here's a new phone…..they do it if they have stock at their larger stores and you bought then phone from them.

The quality of the warranty is often how it's backed up. The issue with grey warranties can be shipping costs.

your contractual relationship is with kogan Australia who took your money ……. they ship from their overseas warehouse ….. they refund from australia ……..

When I buy from Hobbyking ….. I can choose which of their global warehouses ship based on price and stock …….

It's very common for distributors to have a few distribution points, makes it cost effective if they yap into the shipping hubs.

      • your contractual relationship is with kogan Australia who took your money ……. they ship from their overseas warehouse ….. they refund from australia ……..

With respect - that is absolute rubbish.

Kogan Australia does not operate illegally. They do not import, nor sell or supply, illegally.

Anyone who purchases mobile phones from a Hong Kong business that happens to be named Kogan HK Limited, have NO "contractual relationship" with a separated Australian business called Kogan Pty. Ltd.

    • Let's clear up. A3 Australia posts… He said that this might be worse than grey, as kogan Hong Kong imported it, then kogan Australia re imported them from kogan Hong Kong…

Is that how I read your post a3a?

      NO! -

Kogan Pty Ltd is an Australian company. It does not illegally import un-certified Mobile Phones with un-certified power supplies (or any other item that does not have the required Safety Certification).

These mobile phones are being sold by Kogan KH Limited.

Kogan HK Limited buys mobile phones in Hong Kong from suppliers who offer the cheapest prices. As a free market, those phones could come from anywhere.

Yes it's grey but who cares. The company is Australian and is thus bound by our consumer laws. This phone should last 2 years as far as consumer law is concerned. If it deveops a fault in this time you have the right to a full refund. And yes, I bought an lg g3 from Kogan a while back, had screen issues. Sent it back, at their expense, I asked for full refund, they obliged no questions asked. Then bought a g4. When this fails, and it will, I'll do the same.

    • Yes it's grey but who cares.

More nonsense claims. These phones MAY have been grey imports to Hong Kong - or they may be Hong Kong market phones. Buyers will not know until after they import them from Hong Kong.

      The company is Australian

NO! These phone are being sold and supplied by a Hong Kong company.

and is thus bound by our consumer laws.

No! Hong Kong companies are not bound by Australian legislation.

This phone should last 2 years as far as consumer law is concerned. If it deveops a fault in this time you have the right to a full refund.

No! As Australian consumer legislation and the Australian Consumer Guarantee do not apply to private imports from Hong Kong businesses.

And yes, I bought an lg g3 from Kogan a while back, had screen issues. Sent it back, at their expense, I asked for full refund, they obliged no questions asked. Then bought a g4. When this fails, and it will, I'll do the same.

You do not specify if you purchased an Australian market phone from Kogan Pty. Ltd. OR if you imported a phone from Kogan HK Limited in Hong Kong. If it was a private import, you don't say if you sent it back to Hong Kong or if you sent it to Kogan Pty Ltd here in Australia with them acting as a local service agent for the Hong Kong company.
