Motorola Moto G (Black, 3rd Gen, 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage) - $299 at The Good Guys and Officeworks

120

This is the 2GB Ram and 16GB storage variant, which will arguably run far better (and store more, obviously) than the 1GB/8GB variant. Also available at Officeworks for the same price ($299):

  • Can't decide between moto g and xiaomi redmi note 3…anyone care to help

    • +2

To me the big decision is between the stock android that Moto ships with (which I prefer) which will most likely get updates faster and for many years to come - while Xiaomi has nice hardware I find their software they put on top of Android terrible - and it means that you have to wait much longer for updates, if they come at all.

The Note 3 will probably have a better camera too.

Another option is a second hand LG G4 from Gumtree or something, doesn't cost much more but is a WAY better device. That was what I ended up doing.

  • This is a good phone :) Picked 2 up on the previous sale + TRS & CR, ended up paying $220 each :) Very happy & fast phone for the price

  • Solid Phone. Very reliable, stable and well built

  • this is easily the best mid-range phone on the market this year. 5mp front and 13mp back cameras are sweet.

my main phone just died, still waiting for another ebay 20% off before buying. Back to my ancient flip phone which lasts 5 days on a single charge..

    • Could always grab a OnePlus X or the likes ;)

  • I hope these are still in-store when next Friday when I get paid. Does anyone know of a way to have 1 held?

    • they'll be around and likely still at that price. Probably some other colored stock coming into aussie market soon. even officeworks has this phone now.

  • Tried to find out about LTE bands on this phone and getting conflicting results.

Can someone confirm if this, or the Officeworks one has LTE Band 28?

Yes, it's the same. Look for XT1550 as the model number on the box to be sure - this is the model for all Australian stock. It is dual-SIM with 2GB RAM / 16GB Storage also.

  • Any thoughts on whether I should wait for a 20% off eBay sale, or pull the trigger on this price now?

    • I got nervous and pulled the trigger, pretty sure this isn't a permanent price reduction, just an end of year/boxing day special. Up to you though!
