decent monitor, has all the features I like except that it uses an ext. psu

    • with cashrewards its $144.99

  • any other cheaper monitor, smaller is fine but with FHD and HDMI? thank you

    • have a look, last time I looked they dont have many.

      • friggin plenty out there…. msy regularly have 21/22" for closer to $120 etc. but why save the money?

Better off spending a little more.

        • i need two but thanks will look and compare.

He might be poor like me, and also might have limited space or it could be for a child

          Edit: Oh. Lol

        • I dont like to spend cheap on monitors since they tend to last for years over many computers and laptops… so saving $20 here and getting a smaller inferior unit isnt a good saving over the long run.

Even these $150 things… eh… TN type screens. Bit budget to me.

        • @tonyjzx: do you know what D-SUB means? Noob on monitors

        • @g12345567: another noob question, HDMI is better then display ports ant they?

        • +2

@shadowrukia: Nope. Display port has always been ahead of hdmi in terms of bandwidth. DP 1.2 was released around 2009/10 and already had enough bandwidth for 4k @60hz, HDMI only got the upgrade to 4k @60hz 3 years ago with hdmi 2.0. DP 1.3 is soon to come out and would support 8k @60hz (4:2:0 chroma so not the full color range) or two 4k outputs at 60hz each.

Just not sure why hdmi was chosen as the mainstream connector since DP had always been technically superior, could be the hdcp or the ethernet stuff but I have no clue.

        • @krisspy: maybe the fact hdmi can carry audio and video? therefore save space and confusion for noobies.
but im wondering, most monitors doesnt have speaker built in so whats is the purpose to have hdmi ports?

Easy: HDMI standardised in 2003 and DP in 2006. Also HDMI was designed to be backwards compatible with VGA & DVI, whereas DP requires more complex adaptors.

        • @eisniwre: both can do 24bit 192khz though?

@mathew42 never knew hdmi came out first. DP isnt that different to hdmi with regards to compatibility though, i've had passive dvi and vga converters for DP and have only needed an active one for 1440p output to dvi-d

  • Think the LG 24MP47HQ-P here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331573997048?_trksid=p2060353.m27…

is a better deal.. $25 more, but is an IPS screen - plus delivered to your door.

    slightly slower response times though.

    • How's their warranty and return policy if something wrong with the monitor?

    • Does it include speakers? Thanks

    • IPS? no idea what that means as well lol. I bought the other one as 2ms is good for gaming anyway

I have this monitor and while it does the job I generally do not like it. It is by no means bad but it has some features that are pretty annoying and truth be told if given the option I would not buy it again.

For starters I have a Dell 24" IPS monitor and bought this as a secondary display. The Dell is 1920x1200 which I didn't think would be a huge difference, but this monitor is a lower resolution and a bit smaller… It is far more irritating than I could've imagined. Compared to the Dell the colours are pretty dull and the image just doesn't seem as crisp. The difference in quality is pretty obvious.

This monitor also has some interesting menu interface through the use of a directional dpad style button, this is the only button on the monitor. While it is pretty functional, it takes too many clicks for basic tasks like switching input and powering off (power off takes two clicks).

Apart from that the stand is not adjustable so you can't really rotate it without rotating the base and you can't adjust the height at all. It also has an external power supply which I thought is pretty weird for a monitor in this day and age.

I guess the point is if you are really budget conscious and looking for the cheapest solution, this is for you. But if you love your computer and spend any decent amount of time on it, don't bother with this thing, definitely don't make this your primary display.

bugger - didn't realise about the buttons and stand - might have reconsidered if i knew.. oh well
